  1. A bitch, she is 2yrs.Parents are hip/elbow scored, dont know about the rest, she will be getting all her tests done when out of quarantine. Hopefully there is a very nice imported stud(semen) she will be going to a bit later. Excellent....I do hope the scores are great..would be a shame to go to this expense just to find out that the scores aren't brilliant, but i suppose that is exactly what I have done!. Hopefully for everybodies sake they all score very well! Can you give me a few names in the ped...I would love to know a few names as I have been researching lines for a while now. You didn't mention but I'm assuming she came from the US? Is the semen from the US as well? Very expensive to import a bitch & dog so I wish you (or your friend) all the best with it....quite an investment so I hope it all works out!
  2. Sounds like Leo. LOL. Except for the strong willed bit it sounds like kite also! Definately not the sharpest too in the shed! Although cause shes a pointer her regal good looks make up for her lack of smarts! I actually think Maja is a little smarter that I give her credit for...she is just soooo much a Bloodhound - you never tell a Bloodhound what to do...you must ask!!
  3. Thanks Bec I will come equipped with a few alternative collars just in case. I'm really looking forward to it... See you all on Tuesday evening..
  4. Maja is heaps of fun...but being a Bloodhound, very strong willed and possibly not the sharpest tool in the shed. Socialisation as well as some handling training will be excellent. Where abouts at Hillsborough do you go, will I just see everyone when I drive in? Do you have them in flat collars or show slip leads? Sorry..I'm always full of questions!
  5. Costs $2 and goes for roughly an hour / an hour and a half, depends how long you stand around and talk and when Nikki arrives...and how many dogs turn up! That sounds excellent....how old are the pups that usually go? My girl is just over 4 months...
  6. So every 2nd Tuesday starting 16/02 at 6.30pm - is this at HB? awesome.....looks like there will be a very naughty bloodhound baby joining everyone. Seeing she has sat in quarantine for 30 days, she just hasn't had much handling, so expect a ratbag LOL...How long does it go for & how much does it cost??
  7. that's a bummer that Cessnock is on so early. I don't finish work until 5pm...so it just won't happen. What about the Tuesday classes at Hillsborough...anyone got an idea of times etc? Cheers
  8. excellent...which country is it from? Are they bringing over a bitch or a dog? Love to see pics when it arrives!
  9. Hi Bec Thanks for the info re Hillsborough. Is it an evening thing or during the day?...unfortunately I have to work Tuesdays, although if it were an evening thing I may be able to make it. Any more info regarding Cessnock..as that is possibly closer to me anyway? Thanks for your help!! I'm not Bec but my understanding is that Hillsborough is Tuesday evenings on a fortnightly basis and is on next Tuesday from memory - 6.30pm isn't it Bec? .... we will be there for the first time next week - when i say "we" it will be my the 12 week old pup's first outing and show training so it should be interesting .... hmmmm yes interesting is the word we will go with so far We will be at Maitland next weekend for some environmental training and possibly Medowie as well for a visit (I missed the cut off date to enter that show) ... looks like first show will be Hillsborough 13/14 March..... Hi I am also going to have a look at Maitland..it's the 20th if I remember correctly! Unfortunately Maja hurt her toe within one hour of me bringing her home, so she is being confined at the moment & on anti inflammatories. Hopefully she will be fine by then. A friend is showing at Cessnock the week after but I was thinking that Medowie might be better to go to rather than an Ag show as it could be a bit scary for a pup. This is purely for a 'look' ...my paperwork is still being processed for her anyway. Hillsborough on the 14th of March will possibly be the first for me. What is the normal cut off time for entries...I don't want to enter until I know her foot is fine. She is rather wild so I need to get some handling & lead training done before I hit the shows anyway. Cheers
  10. She can do Sweeps and Baby Puppy. The classes for each age are listed on the back of the entry forms. It would be great to see more Bloodhounds at shows. I rarely see any around here. OK...now this is a really dumb question but as I haven't even seen an entry form, I need to ask this - are the entry forms generic & obtained from Dogs NSW? If this is the case then classes etc. will be noted on the back of these forms? Thanks for any help you can give!! Cheers
  12. Hello to all. I'm a newbie in the Dog show scene (come from a horse background - Dressage). I have had bloodhounds for a number of years now & have mainly concentrated on mantrailing - which I must add is an absolute blast for both handler & hound. I have recently imported a BH bitch from Sweden & hopefully will be showing her soon. She was just released from quarantine on Sunday & is a bit of a wild child due to the lack of handling whilst in 'jail'. I will give her a little bit of time to be a puppy again & then start taking her out, once I have done a bit of handling. I am thinking about Hillsborough in March, although I may just go & take her for a look at Maitland and Medowie. I'm not even sure how to fill in the entries for a 5 month (at the end of March) pup. What classes is she eligible to be entered in...just the 3 - 6 mth sweeps? Any assistance would be welcomed. Cheers
  13. Picking Maja up from quarantine tomorrow....it's been a long wait from when she was whelped in October in Sweden. Hopefully she will be a valuable addition to the Bloodhound gene pool in Australia. She will hit the show scene in March!!
  14. I'm glad you asked this question Centitout as I attempted to stack my Swedish import BH yesterday...with an appauling results. Admittedly, seeing she is still in quarantine she was a bit too excited & a big bucket of worms...but reading the 'free stacking' method sounds ideal for us. She is 18 weeks and comes out of quarantine on Sunday, so I can start working with her soon. Very pleased I read this thread! Lets hope I see you out and about at some shows during 2010. Cheers
  15. Hi centitout Being a 14week BH pup you may end up needing an XL. I recently had to go from a large to the XL Varikennel for my Swedish import due to her size - this was at British Airways requirement, as they had certain criteria that must be met when determining the size of the crate required. The dog must be able to walk in & turn around in the crate plus they must not hit their head when in the sitting position. Due to the size of the crate the cost of the flight went up as well...so maybe the additional $1000 that was quoted may have included the increased flight charges due to extra weight & dimentions. Worth looking into prior to purchasing a second hand crate...especially if the airline won't let you use it. Cheers
  16. Good luck kelpiehoundmum....BH's are an interesting breed & Earl will 'own' you before you know it. Good luck with him!! My Maja has a 30 day stay in quarantine & I am able to visit maximum 4 times a week....I wish it was more. She is an absolute wild child...full of energy & extremely high play drive. I think I will have my hands full with her. I may have to run a trail before I put her in the show ring to use up some of her energy . Believe me...they are not the porch dogs you see on Beverley Hillbillies...they are an active dog that can get into mischief if they are bored. But I love them just the same....
  17. Here are a few pics of my new Swedish import....due to be released from quarantine in early February. She is 14 weeks and a complete wild child but very gorgeous...She will be shown as well as doing what I/hounds love best...mantrailing!!
  18. so we are really back to square one....I personally won't use the annual injection due to an adverse reaction of my BH girl. I do use the monthly Sentinel tablets that cover numerous intestinal worms, heartworm & fleas......BUT am I going to do harm to my young bitch that i wish to breed with in a few years time??? What would be the best avenue to research this? The manufacturers will not be too forthcoming if there are a few side effects, many vets have differing opinions...so I may need to ask a few repro vets & see what their answers may be?
  19. Hi I am in the process of importing a bitch pup from Sweden (flies in this week via London). We are using Jetpets and I have to say the Melanie has been BRILLIANT. We have kept in contact EVERY step of the way. She obviously needs to deal with an affiliated company in the exporting country, which in my case is Scandipets, and they obviously have a good open communication system as they have been extremely prompt with any questions both myself & the breeder had. As Sweden is a category 2 country, the quarantine restrictions were reasonably uncomplicated. Unfortunately Hungary is a category 4, so the quarantine restrictions are greater due to the required rabies vaccs etc. ...therefore your vet costs will be higher. Your process will be rather long winded..... Now the cost.....the invoice I received from Jetpets was approx $4.5k, then you have all the vet expenses in the exporting country, the quarantine at Eastern Creek is approx $1300.....oh, and of course the purchase price of the dog! If i wanted jetpets to also deal with the completion of the Cert A, then that would have been additional as well. This costs includes a large Vari Kennel. We may actually need to go to an XL...if that is the case then I will need to pay an additional $600+ for the added airfare & the additional cost of the crate. hope I haven't scared you off....it certainly ain't cheap!!!
  20. So what do you do if you live in an area which is known for heartworm. I had one bitch react to the yearly heart worm injection, that was given with her annual vaccinations...so I now give her and my other desexed boy Sentinal monthly - covers intestinal worms, heart worm & assists with fleas (although frontline is still required in the summer months). As I am about to import a very expensive young girl, whom I intend to breed with in a few years time, I would like to find out what the BEST heart worm prevention programme would be for ALL my hounds. Any dialogue regarding this would be appreciated. Cheers
  21. It would have been Creese...especially if he gave you a card. It sounds like it was the other Expo they went to a few weeks earlier..... unfortunately I had to work that day so couldn't bring my two along. We did have the 5 at the Pet Expo at Rosehill & did a number of demos . There would have been three hounds - Yoda, Tango & Mojo at the one you are referring to. Certainly send through a PM whenever you want to come along. I'm sure we will be getting together soon to do a bit of work with them. It's alot of fun...but be prepared to do heaps of walking & possibly help with a trail or two!! Cheers
  22. Hi Golden Girl Myself and two other collegues had 5 bloodhounds at the pet Expo at Rosehill racecourse last year...was that the expo you were talking about? There are a number of bloodhounds living in Sydney and surrounding areas & a few of us get together & do some mantrailing with them as often as we possibly can (not quite so much in the warmer months though). If you are interested in coming along to one of our training days just PM me & we can organise a day/time. The dogs simply have a ball...& they are doing what comes naturally. I will also be showing a young bitch next year (my Swedish import) as well as dabbling in mantrailing with my other two. If you ever need any more info, just ask. We certainly need more people involved in the breed. Cheers
  23. Hi Everyone Just hoping someone here may have imported a dog & had them insured in transit. If so, can you let me know who you used and what you were covered for. I have a Bloodhound pup coming over in January & would like to insure her for the trip as well as quarantine etc. Any assistance would be helpful. Cheers
