  1. Are you anywhere near Sydney or the Hunter Valley???
  2. Can you tell me where your club is located?? I am desperately trying to find somewhere between Sydney & the Hunter Valley that is considering do it, including training as I am a complete novice at it...Oh, and have three bloodhounds!!
  3. I just can't find anyone/any club near Sydney or Newcastle that do it...I keep hitting dead ends. I would LOVE to find somewhere that did. As I have bloodhounds, a breed that aren't particularly suited to trial obedience, Rally O seems ideal and many BH owners in the US do it & say their hounds love it! Once again, I throw it our there for anyone to give me a few leads... Cheers
  4. You did the right thing Centitout. Such a shame it turned out this way but he is in a much better place now. As Id said before, pity you & onsntillnflash had to go to all that trouble/expence picking him up etc when the ranger could/SHOULD have assessed the dog properly. Re breeding, sadly I think the only real way of one not having their lines/stock being bred from by BYB's is to spey early, before leaving the breeder. Something many of us are not keen on due to the surveys but better that really, than knowing a pup from you helped produce many a "Spanner".. Think we have all been caught out by what we thought were genuine puppy people, even after checking them out thorougly, however things can still happen change for the worst. Sadly, BYB's will always be there, someone will always sell a pup with $$ in mind....at least one can sleep better at night if they desex their pets, knowing that its not from any of their breeding. Good luck folks yes, I think we all strive to do the best we can and try to believe that people are honest...but you are correct Beauie in saying that some people appear genuine (and maybe initially they were) but the mighty $$ creeps in & before you know it a litter in produced by a BYBer. This doesn't just happen in the dog world, as I know!! I know centitout has been proactive with offering the fee back for spaying/neutering but even then you can't trust people will do the right thing. It certainly is food for thought regarding the desexing of limited register pups prior to leaving the breeder. The RSPCA do it with their youngster/pups/kittens prior to leaving (once they have reached a certain age - can't remember exactly what that is?) and it is a great preventative for 'mistake' litters!
  5. Hunterhound - can I swap one of my existing children instead Centitout - if I can help in any way with your predicament at the moment let me know - don't know what I could do but if you think of anything hahahaha...maybe on second thoughts I might have to re think the 'child' side of things...I'm an empty nester now & loving it!! But I will certainly be protecting the lines I bring into the country...I would be devastated if one of my puppies ever ended up like this poor boy...so incredibly sad!
  6. I have been using it for years (Salmon & Anchovy) as I had a very itch girl and I am more than happy with it. I also used it for my recent import when she arrived from Sweden...with no ill affects from the change of diet as it also contains probiotics for the gut. I feed it to all my dogs regardless of age and would not hesitate in recommending it as a dry food of preference. I do also feed fresh meat. bones & vegetable so the dry component makes up about 1/3 of each ration.
  7. I will PM you so I also have this guys name for future reference..... I'm going to be the breeder from hell to get pups from anyway....enquirers will just about have to betrothe their next born child if they don't have a glowing reference from someone I know
  8. So sorry that you needed to make the call Centitout....but I am positive it was the right one!! It is just so sad that this poor boy must have suffered for some time...at least now he is free of pain.... I certainly admire your willingness to assist these hounds in need.... I just wish it wasn't something that needed to be done
  9. Centitout....no one would judge you poorly AT ALL should you have to make that decision. I totally agree with Beauie that you cannot take the risk with aggression issues in such a powerful & large breed....especially seeing you do not know the full history of this dog. I'm sure you will assess the situation well and make the correct decision!!
  10. bloody hell...did they tell you the state he was in before you picked him up or was it a complete shock. Poor boy..sounds like he would be rather miserable at the moment. Do you think the aggression is stemmed from abuse or maybe even pain from all the health problems?? On a more positive note...how is the other boy going? Has he started to get some weight on him?
  11. Thanks...I might PM Angelsun & see if she knows of anything our way... Cheers
  12. I've just put this back up to the top of the list hoping someone can assist.....pleeeeaassssse!!
  13. I know there is another thread on this but seeing I didn't get a response I thought I would start one here so someone might see it. I was hoping someone may be able to help regarding Rally O training/club somewhere in the Sydney/Newcastle/Hunter region. I would love to get my 3 Bloodhounds into this...well maybe the two girls as the boy may not be that interested... If someone can point me in the right direction I certainly would appreciate it. I'm happy for a PM if you can help me!!! Cheers
  14. yeah...not a bad idea but the vets are always guarded at trying to interpret the films themselves....did you have yours sent to Dr Wyburn for reading or did your vet tell you that the boy pups hips weren't too flash??
  15. Yes, a big welcome Farlap...good to see you here Not heard back from Steve so unsure how Shaylee went in the finals for Junior Handlers at the Royal. Shaylee did fantastic in any case. there were alot of results flying around at the Hound show on Sunday & unfortunately I recall someone mentioning another name for Junior Handler. A lady, who owns ridgees, and who I have met through Steve & Shaylee, did ask if Shaylee got reserve but I didn't hear an answer, as I had to go into the ring. Can you post on here or PM me with the final result... Cheers
  16. Thanks Angelsun i agree that it is great to see other breeds doing sports that they are normally not considered suitable. Any thoughts on where I can start looking re training? I will look at Dogs NSW website & go from there I guess...but if anyone has any leads I would love to hear. Cheers
  17. hello..hello...we have a UK visitor...Welcome Farlap! yes..and a very well deserved congratulations to Shaylee & Shelly!!
  18. I haven't been able to make it for weeks...but does anyone know if show handling training is still on at Hillsborough on Tuesday, seeing that daylight savings has ended. If it is on..what time is it starting & is it this week??
  19. That's exciting . OK...you have me very curious about this. I have bloodhounds & therefore obedience & agility are not always their forte..although there are some brilliant hounds out there that excel, especially in the US were they hold alot of competitions. Rally is something that this breed seem to do well at...especially seeing you can have them on lead through to Novice. Now my question....is there any clubs in Sydney/Newcastle/Hunter or surrounds that hold training days as well as competition days & if so, could you please advise. My two girls are actually VERY switched on, so I think they would LOVE it...the boy on the other hand would prefer to remain asleep in the trailer..LOL... Any info would be appreciated!!!
  20. Interestingly enough, even though she is a hypo puppy, she stacks fairly easily. It's getting her nose off the ground that is my biggest problem at the moment. I can keep her up for a few strides, then she gets deeper & deeper and tries to run with her nose along the ground - like when we trail!! I'm sure it will get easier..but i am going to by a very thin check/show chain rather than having her in a slip lead.
  21. Here is little Miss Maja at the Hound Club of NSW show yesterday.....Neil had a crack at stacking & didn't do a bad job!!
  22. slightly OT but may be relevant, but I was told the ANKC had rejected Penn Hip scores, and I believe the FCI has just recently had meetings and the recognition of these scores is considered no longer viable. Sorry I cant help with the topic, but thought this may be of use. Wow...well that is very interesting. It certainly is recognised by the OFA in the US and therefore the AKC. Can you advise where you heard this...is it on a website or through a Canine association? I would love to get further information? Really? That's news to me! OFA & PennHip are competing organisations here in the USA. Here is the only mention of PennHip you will find at the AKC website: "PennHIP A method, established in 1993, of evaluating hip dysplasia in dogs by calculating hip laxity; within-breed ratings are provided, permitting breeders to select dogs with the best (smallest laxity) hips for breeding future generations." I found that in their glossary section. The AKC only uses OFA results on official documents, NOT PennHip. PennHip is not popular here at all for many reasons. Where did you hear the OFA & AKC recognise PennHip? I'm curious! sorry...it was CHIC and I have since contacted friends in the US & confirmed that the AKC do not recognise Penn Hip....I was initially lead to believe otherwise.
  23. Looks good...now we just wait for Sunday to see how she goes in Group Thanks HH...news just to hand via mobile is that Shaylee Thomas (Shelly's handler in the photo/Steve's daughter) won 1st placing in the Sydney Royal Junior Handler's today, in her age group...even more exciting on Sunday for them now as she goes up against all the other Junior handler winners in their age groups ....go Shaylee woohoo...Shaylee. Did she handle Shelly or the Aussie for the junior handler...or maybe something else, as I think I recall the Aussie was blowing her coat?? Fingers crossed for the Thomas family on Sunday...is Steve any good as texting as I'de love to know?? I'll be at the hound Show today so i might send Steve a text from there and hope that Shaylee sees it & might reply with the results :
  24. I like the idea of three vets looking at the films not just one person...regardless of whether you need to wait a little longer to receive the results. JMOHI...So from now on I will probably use AVA, so i get more than one set of eyes looking at the films. I want to ensure i get an accurate result as my ultimate aim is to assist with improving our breed here. I don't want to go to the extra expense of Penn Hip testing if the results are not going to be accepted/recognised by governing bodies. The contributing factor for me wanting to Penn Hip is that it can be done earlier than 18mths - 2 years. I have a 6 month imported bitch & I am eager to find out how her hips are...not to breed early, just purely to give me peace of mind that I haven't done my dough! Importing is such a gamble...
  25. Thanks Deb This is scary as I have actually just phone Martin at Motto farm just prior to reading your post. I went onto the Penn Hip site & searched for approved technicians in Oz...and Martin is the only one close. It's great to hear that he doesn't charge an arm & a leg to do it either. He was busy in consults when I phoned so the receptionist is going to get him to phone me when he is free. I have previously had my xrays forwarded to WA as well...but seeing this gent is the only one who interprets the xrays (albeit he has been doing it for years) I wonder if he ever gets it wrong? At least in the US & their OFA system, they have three different vets look at the films, they each score & then they take an average. Once again a little subjective, but I feel it is better than just one person making the call. I have been considering going to Martin for a while now as he has a few others bloodhounds on his books, so hopefully knows the breed reasonably well by now. My current vet is great for the day to day consults but as Martin also does repro work, I may utilise his clinic as well...I have had some positive feedback about him! Thanks for your input...most appreciated Cheers Michelle
