  1. How sad for little Beam may she RIP. I had a friend who had 2 Jack Russel bitches, one was a rescue and these 2 used to fight like crazy as well, funny thing was that they would only fight if people had been visiting in the last 24hrs. Now if people come over they lock them in a room, no one gets to play with them and they dont fight anymore....
  2. Just thought I would mention that I had ridgebacks and I found that the dont shed badly at all, they are one of the dogs who shed the least in my opinion but i have never owned a beagle or a pug so maybe find out how much they shed.
  3. I would also love to feed raw but my pup cant tolerate bones, he gets the runs and he vomits and he cant tolerate a lot of fat or rich stuff like marrow, he is alright with roo tail bones so when I can get them he has them.
  4. How does Holistic Select compare to Artemis? I am going to try the Salmon, Sardine and Anchovy meal formula for my boy.
  5. Allergies just fascinate me, certain times of the year my dog is fine, at other times like at the moment he is very itchy and certain plants make his eyes swell, not sure what causes it but pollen has been mentioned by a few vets etc.
  6. I can only give my thoughts, based on things I've read/heard etc. Yes - I believe the incidences of allergies goes back to a weakened immune system. Things such as all the chemicals we apply and administer to our dogs. Vaccinations, flea/tick/mite controls (often not for any real need). All the processed foods we feed our dogs. And I don't think this merely relates to the individual dog at the time. I think it goes back through the generations and what the bitch who brought our individual dogs into this world was on and like. And her parents before that. And so on. I also think we bombard our dogs too often with drugs that are not perhaps as immediately necessary as some think. And shampoos as well as other chemically based substances such as nice smelling scents (nice to us, that is) that we spray on the dogs. And so forth. No wonder the immune systems are stressed and weakened. I also think that there are many things that we can't control as well, such as pollutants in the air. A bit too difficult to escape them. But we can do something about the other of what I've mentioned. Thanks Erny, I think what you have said is true, like for example flea and tick treatments, is it necessary to give the dog stuff for fleas and ticks month after month when they have never had a flea?? My husband and I argue about this and i see his point too, i say he only needs stuff for heartworm monthly whereas my husband says we should treat him for ticks and fleas as well as the fleas are hard to get rid of once he as them but I say its just poison!
  7. I freeze mince or yoghurt in mine or else i stuff it with some cut up apple.
  8. Reading a couple of people's posts and having a dog that suffers allergies myself I started thinking about what causes them, ie what makes one dog more prone to allergies than the next? I know allergies can be a sign of a weakened immune system but what causes this, is it environment etc?
  9. I would be shocked if someone did anything like this to my dog, I would go crazy if someone shook him etc. People who behave like that shouldnt be instructors.
  10. Who said anything about them needing to be any good? I'll never get there at that rate Maybe next year I will entertain the idea of a camping weekend with the dogs in Geraldton. Keep your calendar open Amy and keep the training up, you're coming with I would be keen to go next year, Mason wont be ready for the trial but we will go for the camping fun, just let me know in advance and we can organise something, I will start buying camping stuff , so far I only have 4 camp chairs and 1 sleeping bag lol.
  11. Maybe you need a photo of my face when I open the box and have to start putting them in the post bags making sure everybody gets one of each colour I will see what I can arrange I am not fussy with colors
  12. I use Malaseb on my dog, he is allergic to some grasses and plants, I wash him as soon as he starts to itch, its usually when the seasons change, and I do it once a week if he is really bad. Allergies are just horrible!
  13. So excited for them at arrive!! Did they mention any idea of how long the shipping would take?? UMM I forgot to ask - but everybody has said Clean Run stuff doesn't take that long to arrive. No worries, am just hoping that that they are here for Mason's birthday, that can be his gift lol.

  15. Unless you have a dog in each hand and absolutely perfect timing KelpieI, I'd have to disagree with this. You have to reward the loose lead when that particular dog is demonstrating the desireable behaviour. Same goes for dealing with tight leads. This is a hard one, my theory is that yes you can teach them separately and it would be best but then as soon as you start walking the 2 together again they will pull, it has to be a mixture of training them one on one and then both together.
  16. Have you tried clicker training, click and treat every time they take a step with no pulling, make sure you have yummy treats , cheese, BBQ sausage, bacon etc and do it before they eat their main meal for the day so that they are hungry
  17. I came to oz from South Africa and my cats had to stay in quarantine for 6 months in RSA and one month here, I could have done 3 months there and 4 here but it just worked out cheaper that way. Quarantine is stressful and so are the flights, I would avoid it at all costs.
  18. When I had 2 dogs neither one of them could do anything on their own, it was exhausting, one needed the vet the other one would have to come along too! If i ever get another dog I hope that they will be alright on their own, Mason copes fine home alone etc and i am very happy with that.
  19. How awful! I experienced the same thing, my lab was attacked by a dog and the owner was too scared to grab it, my dog was still on lead and he managed to slip his collar and outrun the attacking dog until I could call him through some gates and shut the aggressive dog out. I was so afraid that Mason would be scared of other dogs after but luckily he is as trusting of other dogs as he was before.
  20. I know, they are gorgeous! He is human trapped in a dogs body.
  21. Most bones make my lab sick, he either pukes or gets the runs, the only bones he is ok with is roo tails, I would give these a go.
  22. I think this pic shows Mason's personality, he is just a big sook!
  23. I love watching trials but what i really need to watch is HOW people train their dogs. I need to work out a way of making class more exciting for Mason, he wont play with toys while we are listening in class and are waiting for others to get help from the instructors but yet he loves toys at home and when he at the park etc. It has been suggested to take a sock and put some food in it and see if he will play with that so I am going to give it a go.
  24. We have to attend to be tested, the next class up though the dog has to pass a club trial to move to the next level..... something I am sure we wont be doing for a very very long time lol!
