  1. k, so it's just occurred to me that it might not come via amazon per se --- that would throw a spanner in the works...
  2. k, so no delivery yet... in anticipation of placing a phone call to aqis, what does one need to say, apart from the obvious, that is, to convince them that it doesn't need a tga import certificate? amazon.com has it listed also: 180g at $37 and from what i understand [OH works for customs], international post from amazon is pretty much 'thru' when itnl mail is processed --- something to consider when contemplating your next purchase and if comparable to the price set by troy [when it's available]...
  3. me again i've performed a search on yahoo groups and there's 2 listings: k9 kitchen 2003 [last active 5 months ago and the page won't display in any event!] and dog read [which mentions her name at least and the group is active in the last 7 days] --- it would be the 2nd one right!??! it calls for registration so i'd like to make sure first that it is the right group. thanks
  4. thanks brighton the information that site provides is helpful.
  5. thanks zayda_asher for the links and the information! No worries It's good to read them both together, they cover some similar ground, but complement each other well. I would probably pick K9 Kitchen first if you could only get one. But if you want to crunch your own numbers, then you want Optimal Nutrition as she got permision to reprint the NRC nutritional requirements for adult dogs. I think there are a couple of recipes as examples in each one, but one of the things you will learn is that each dog is individual and does best on a diet tailored to them, so she doesn't give a lot of recieps. If you look at her site though, there are a couple of pamphlets that have some general recipes in them and she does have some breed specific pamphlets too that address some of the common health issues in particular breeds and what you can do to help prevent those occurring, address them if they have occurred, etc. do you make up your dogs' meals based on her theories? how have you found the process? is it cost- effective?
  6. holy crap! that's some serious number-crunching right there! i just had a tinker with the ND site and, comparing the results of some foods to the info provided in the RDA site, i think i can make some sense of it all! thanks for the links esky and you're exactly right, using the info as a baseline is a damn good start!
  7. thanks and yeah, i had considered that it's an allergy --- both my dogs lick, nibble and munch and i've been aware of that behaviour for some time, but this seems different somehow in that it's localised and she's persistent in that same area [and it's not an areas where yeast would normally persist]... i am not sure either whether the behaviour, in both dogs, is not behaviour-related and if it is, it would seem that i have failed dismally with the 'distraction method'
  8. thanks for the replies thanks for the link and i'll check out ebay [i never think of checking there until someone mentions it!] --- i'd heard joint guard was popular and it comes in no-scent/taste powdered form also, so it's less of a strain administering it...
  9. email 8pm 14 november [uk time!??] informing product shipped via royal mail airmail (small packets) (3-5 business days). so i can anticipate its arrival, how long did it take for yours to get here from the uk?
  10. hello can someone please recommend a joint supplement? i've looked at several on the market, quite expensive, so i wish not to make any buying errors so as to avoid delay in providing my baby girl some relief. bella has very slight luxation in her left back leg --- no limping or skipping; that that it was noted by her vet... it's not quite a recommendation but i'm told that a joint supplement would be okay for every dog! firstly, both my dogs have had a yeast burden that i've been treating for the past month or so, so bella's licking and munching, i thought, was residual *sadly* over the past week or so i've noticed that she's paid much attention to her inner left thigh and along the bone edge, and only in the past few days have i actually noticed that she's munched away the fur on her outer left thigh --- i'm a tad upset over this because it means, i believe, that she's in some kind of discomfort... yesterday as she rested on her right side, she repositioned her left back leg a number of times and it occasionally jerked --- without humanising that behaviour, that indicates to me that her left back leg is giving her some pain... dogs are resilient creatures so it was no surprise that she showed no discomfort when i massaged her thigh, but she did tend to jerk it away from my hand... she also kicks spasmodically when i scratch that side of her lower tummy --- is that indicative!?!? i've read where some dog owners give their dogs human glucosamine [sp!??!] and i have access to that but i'd prefer to give her a product that is designed to be metabolised by dogs... in your experience, what's the best product? thanks
  11. percentages of inter alia crude protein, crude fats, ash content, fibre! what does all that actually mean? by virtue that dry and processed is [apparently] nutritionally balanced, i read somewhere, way back, that you shouldn't add raw meat [to dry or cooked/processed] because it buggers up the nutritional balance --- and then there's those that believe that mixing raw with dry is inappropriate anyway because the enzymes required in the gut to process raw is vastly different to those enzymes that break down dry/processed/cooked food! can anyone categorically say: what are the correct levels, across the board, for balanced nutrition? if i'm feeding a diet consisting of dry food and raw meat, what percentage of protein [in combination but fed separately] should one feed to attain optimum nutrition? how does one factor raw veg into that equation? i work in grammage [is that even a word!?!?] BUT a vet nutritionist tells me to feed in kil/cal contents! !??!? is there anyone out there who knows the formula? thanks, i would really appreciate the help
  12. hi rappie, hi jules this is the first opportunity i've had this week to come in and reply --- i did read your posts earlier in the week, but time wasn't on my side... again, thank you both so much for your input as to diet and altho i was ready to go the egg whites and cottage cheese [and or some white fish] i had a moment of clarity and decided, at this juncture, to just reduce the amount of complex proteins and see what her bloods tell us next time --- i've had another chat to the vet and they agree that would be a good first step... for brekkie, it's 30g blackhawk with about 20g pulped raw greens and grated carrot and then at night, 30g [down from about 50g of dr b's barf] of raw cubed [human grade] lamb andor beef or chicken with 30g of pulped raw greens and grated carrot [adding a small tspn of omega pet oils and ACV with about a half tspn of low fat cottage cheese]... immediately after their dinner, they each get 1/3 [in 2 bits] of a teenie greenie and i'm working into both dogs' diet an amount of RC dental [just started that today]... during the day and instead of raw bones both dogs chew on petbarn dried beef tendons and [96% fat free] dried cow ears... i've cut out their petbarn dried beef gullet chews and reduced their beef liver treats... about 6 weeks ago i removed [as much as i cold] carbs from their diet due to a yeast burden. i realise i provided more info than likely necessary but it helps me to form a 'food map' in my head i'll be having her bloods done again by mid-december so we'll see then whether these changes have any effect... again, i can't thank you both enuf i have another issue with bella but that's a whole 'nother thread *blimey*
  13. per my previous post, allcreaturesvets2010 has replied and does ship to australia. i've just placed an order for 60g of plaque off, total cost [converted at this time] aud$19.3958 [includes postage]. if anyone else is having issues placing orders for plaque off, try them. i'll let you know how it goes with customs efg
  14. hi rappie and thanks for your input thanks again rappie, i really appreciate the help
  15. SAMe [i think i'll leave this one out of the equation] and milk thistle: about mid-way down the page
  16. purines: copper [still a little uncertain]: copper requirements in dogs ps: altho the attachment doesn't show in my post preview, it did when i clicked on it
  17. Really don't want to say this but this actually can be a symptom of liver problems srsly!??! she's been doing that since she was a pup, generally after she's been bathed or when she's being cheeky and playful! byron does that too altho not to the same extent... I'll find the diet and post it for you. Low sodium is important as is low purine (dogs with liver issues can have urinary issues too). Low copper too at this stage is important. low sodium i understand, but i'll have to research purine and copper jules, thank you so much for your help
  18. having just spent near a grand on dental work for my boy, i was given some samples of aquadent [a drinking water additive] and having been assured that the miniscule amount of xylitol would do my 2 dogs and 1 cat no harm, i am convinced, by virtue of the testimonies in this thread, that i would much prefer to use proden plaque off... thanks oakway [and others] for the heads up! in that regard, i wrote to hoofanhound [ebay uk] asking whether they would consider sending it downunder and their reply was that they don't send outside the uk. so, i'm now going to contact allcreaturesvets2010, that claims to ship worldwide, to ensure that they actually do ship worldwide! their 60gm bottle is about aud$14 [not including postage].
  19. hi and thanks i think i read somewhere that it was 10-100 --- i'm looking again at the sites i've been reading to confirm that.
  20. earlier this year, i had bella's blood tested [generally] and i was told that one liver enzyme [ALT] was slightly elevated. i had her in for a followup test this past wednesday and it had risen by 110 points [it was 229, now 339]. the vet told me that because bella is part maltese, a bile test would be inconclusive and could offer no particular reason for the initial rise or even the elevation since. so another test in about a month and depending on those results, followed by an ultrasound. has anyone had an experience in this regard with their dog? can you tell me what the likely cause was? what you did to re-establish the enzyme to within the normal range? thanks
  21. how much granulated garlic per kilo of dog?
