  1. If he is only 6 months just be careful with too much exercise on growing joints. Sorry but imho getting him to carry weight isn't probably a good idea until he is older. As esky said mental stimulation can be just as tiring for a young dog.

Sorry I didnt clarify. I did mean when he was older..

  2. You need to take baby steps.

Make Elbie sit and hold it for 4 seconds. reward him

Make Elbie sit and hold it for 5 seconds. reward him

Keep making those sits last longer and longer.

The you can make him sit, take a step to the side. reward him.

Make him sit, take two steps back.

Keep working on that until you get further and further away.

In my opinion there are 3 elements to work on when doing stays. Time- How long he'll sit for. Distance- how far away you can get. and Distraction.

As you work on improving one area, you have to make the other 2 easier so as not to overwhelm your pup.

So if your working on the duration of his stays stand closer too him and reward him for the increasing time that he holds the sit.

If your working on distance, that reward him for holding his sit even the shortest time.

And if your working on having him stay whilst there are distractions around, you have to go back to basics, just to remind him what he's doing..

*Sorry if that didn't make sense

  3. :grouphug:

I should take you toy shopping

Esky's favourites are plastic coke bottles and Kongs stuffed with fish and frozen.

Excercise is critical, as is mental stimulation. Training will help wear him out in a mental sense. A good 10 minute training session can be as tiring as a brisk walk. Challenging toys like Kongs are great too.

I also like the idea of giving your dog a job. My deceased husky Didge had the job of carrying stuff for us on our walks. We got her a 2nd hand doggy back pack for $10 and put a small amount of weight into it. ( I would fill powerade bottles, so I knew how much weight)

I'd never seen her prouder and happier than when she was wearing that.

  4. if all cross bred dogs were not available then a lot of people would be waiting an eternity to have a pet dog....it would put so much more pressure on breeders to produce more litters to keep up with the demand and the implications of that are far reaching

Wouldn't it still be better to have registered pedigree breeders, who test their dogs producing an extra litter a year, than have people buying a random mutt

  5. OOOh fellow Adelaidian Sibe owner and you have the same name as me. :p Very nice

Have you been giving your dog enough exercise? Sounds like he could be bored.

Do you have appropriate toys for him to play with? (not your underwear :)

Does he have an area of his own inside?

  6. I'm not aware of anything like that that exists

The only books like that I've seen are the propaganda books from food companies, that spend half the book telling you why X dog food is the best

I DO think we as a purebred dog community should get together and make something like that.

I would be willing throw some money towards it.
