  1. Thank you for suggesting me peeps! I've been getting lots of orders which means I'm making money for Peiradise doggies! I saw someone selling coats at my local shopping centre today and their XL's we're 52 while mine are only 35 and they are made to size with much cooler print options.
  2. If I was a police officer I would think there would have to be some kind of evidence of theft (rather than the dog just escaped) for me to consider it a crime that needed investigation. Heartbreaking for an owner if that is what they felt had happened but 'lost' and 'stolen' are two different things.
  3. Inka I'm not sure I mentioned this earlier but years ago I had a young sbt rescue who started whelping the day she was left in my care. She seemed to know something was wrong and kept sitting on anything trying to come out so she went in, got a calcium shot to encourage contractions then ended up having an emergency ceasar as 2 pups were stuck (and deceased) in the birth canal. They had to make a very large incision. She wasn't desexed at the same time as she was left with me for babysitting at that time and was supposed to only be suffering from a phantom pregnancy! She didn't seem to notice the surgery pain and I had to watch her from rolling and jumping and running around. Three days later her stitches gave way (apparently a bad batch of cat gut) and all her innards were becoming outards. My sister, her boyfriend, myself and the vet's wife were all there in the surgery late one night helping the vet put her back together with the most ginormous stitches. Her poor belly was a mess. It had all just unravelled. She came home with me that night and it seemed too painful for her to lie down and she was asleep sitting up so I slept upright with her leaning against my back that first night and most of the next day because I couldn't think of what else to do. After that she was more comfortable lying down. So go with what your gut is telling you about your girl. Something is not right for her if the initial pain has not settled.
  4. I'd consider you said it as Narla. I couldn't find a meaning for it on Google but have seen/heard it before and think it is a nice sounding name.
  5. Either way I'd prefer to leave the breeding to good registered breeders myself as there are enough mixed (and purebred) dogs out there already facing death if they can't find a home. For me it is simply a matter of over supply whether they come from a BYB or PF. Accidental litters should totally be a non-event - either be a responsible owner and do what is necessary to avoid impregnation or get your pet desexed. If you went to the dump and saw thousands of handbags being turned into landfill because no-one wanted them there are people who would be horrified by the waste. If the same happened with prescription glasses someone would be shouting out for them to be sent to third world countries in need. Yet we still live in a society where it is ok to kill surplus healthy living creatures? Not ok with me that possessions have more value than living companion animals. On a side note, I just sold a couple of dog kennels for Peiradise. The first person proudly told me he had a puppy Beaglier while the other had two Moodles. They probably paid quite handsomely for their bitsas too!
  6. Mine would be "Our mum just doesn't make our big bed up lumpy enough and we have to rearrange it ourselves. Sigh...."
  7. She looks so young and having so many pups each litter - probably without any assistance either. So glad that is no longer her future. You guys are just doing the most amazing job!
  8. I'm looking at this differently. I would LOVE to have the money to buy this place and the dogs and do the right thing by the poor animals. I'd also use the inside information obtained from the current owner to make an impact against puppy farming to the businesses currently buying from this place. Not sure how I would do it exactly but maybe a media story, opening up the place to public scrutiny. Then if the property truly was suitable I'd love to run it as some kind of overflow shelter so more dogs could be saved and cared for while they did quarantine or foster carers were sorted out. I certainly wouldn't want dogs living there until a home turned up but it could be a useful transitionary environment that could be used by multiple rescues. Anyway that's my dream idea if I ever win lotto and could offer that service free of charge (or for minimal charge) to rescue groups. When I look at that house and what the lady in the pics is wearing I'd say there are employees living on site in that house and not the owners. Few adults/couples sleep in single beds but employees/caretakers might not be given the same luxuries. That's truly the kind of inside info that could be obtained and shared. Those owners look rather pleased to share their success with the world but how they are going about it might not be such a pretty story. Imagine only a couple of people living there and 'caring' (using the term very loosely) for 80 dogs. And what about when the mums start giving birth? I bet no-one is sitting with them monitoring things. The very best thing that could happen is that anyone other than another puppy farmer bought this property.
  9. My 1 year old pei girl came home from surgery the week before last (dog fight wounds) and had to be carried to the car and into the house as she was still quite out to it (my vet trusts me to monitor and call her if I have concerns). She lay exactly where we put her down half in and half out of her crate. Total dead weight. We checked her every 15 mins and she woke about 8.30pm wanting something to eat (didn't get anything). All night after that she cried and trembled and wouldn't be comforted by anything I did or settle in any one place (but she did lie down here and there). I figured some of the anaesthetic wearing off was making her feel out of sorts but also had a gut feeling she needed more pain meds. So I rang the vet and got a different type (name now escapes me) first thing the next morning and she was much, much better. By day 3 she was back to her usual self really but had to spend 2 whole weeks wearing the cone of shame because she pulled a drain out of her leg whilst pretending to eat her dinner on night 4! I hope your bubba is feeling more herself now. I think you have to trust your gut sometimes because just like people animals can respond differently to pain and meds.
  10. I like quite a few of those names T! Kind of Glee meets Buffy happening there!
  11. Might go and have another look at it then! OK I'm back. Being very serious here - what do you think a place like that could go for at auction? Wouldn't it be great to buy it, get hold of their client list and then do something naughty with it! What would those small green kennels in a long line be for? I'd hate to think the dogs spend their time in boxes of that size rather than those runs. As for the exercise area there is a distinct lack of urine stains on that grass. Perhaps you only get to visit it on your birthday?
  12. A DOLer friend (not on here often) recently had major surgery and all her doggy friends on FB were making comments about her getting desexed, not licking her stitches or she'd have to wear the cone of shame and only being able to show in a certain class from now on. Her non-doggy friends thought we were being a little disrespectful and not taking things seriously. As a breeder/shower she thought it was hilarious! Glad Zig has his appetite back. It's the little things sometimes!
  13. I have no probs making the bandanas but am an epic fail at ironing on the stencils. I think it is my iron! (not)
  14. Easy to manage and easy to learn. They make it sound like a dream business opportunity! I hope someone buys it and rehomes or keeps those poor dogs as pets and used the facilities for a much nobler purpose.
  15. My SBT seems to also know a non-dog lover when she sees them and does her utmost to lick and paw them into loving her. It often has the opposite effect but she still gives it a shot! I'm allergic to cats and stayed out at Ams one night and despite all the dogs that could've come and slept with me I had to share my bed with 2 cats! They are sneaky and seem to know non-cat people too..... Stitches came out this morning on both my dogs and they are outside catching some winter rays like nothing happened! Glad our Zig-a-Zig is better and has pooped!
  16. HW I also wasn't wanting to cause a panic but this does sound feasible to me - people posing as council workers to locate suitable dogs. I'd rather be pre-warned and I know my dog loving friends would too. Often we don't question authority, even if our gut is telling us something doesn't seem right. Scammers and thieves are getting smarter to obtain what they want and we have to keep a step ahead by being informed and vigilant rather than paranoid.
  17. Yes, this is fabulous news! Gnarla and the pups have lovely looking coats so obviously the nutrition is getting through. And I love that she is now able to recognise you and hubby are there to help her. She must've felt so sick and in pain for so long. You really have saved her and those pups lives. Big hugs to you for doing this!
  18. I'm going to post this on my FB page as all my dog owning friends are on either the GC or in Brissy. Better to be pre-warned than caught out as this does sound feasible - some people would fall for it. I think there was another story about coloured dots being put on fences to indicate how many or types of dogs at a property so they could come back later and steal dogs for baiting or fighting. I just can't understand what a person would find enjoyable about such a 'sport'.
  19. I had to rush both my dogs to my vets last week sans bra or shoes, still wearing pyjamas that were covered in water and blood. I had to transport the dogs in 2 separate trips (had to even carry one heavy fur baby) and in my first trip the place was full of clients who obviously knew an emergency was coming in so there was nothing discrete about my arrival. Second time the place was empty thank goodness. $2300, lots of grey hair and my dignity, thank you very much.
  20. Come on Zig! Get better! We're all worried for you and your mummy!
  21. I hope it is just from eating something a bit too far gone. I'm a worry wart like that - some dogs are rarely sick so you really notice the change. I'd have a bed on the floor next to him tonight so I could do regular tummy and temp checks if it was me (unless of course he sleeps on your bed already!). Good luck sleeping and fingers crossed there are no vom bombs indoors!
  22. Ams and I made contact with Logan Pound about a pei with bad skin - me by phone and email, but of course they never contacted us back and it was likely he was pts rather than given a chance with people who were interested in taking him on. Anytime I am out there you can tell there are loads of dogs out the back but rarely more than a couple in pens up the front looking for adoption. Sad.
  23. It always shocks me just how many sets of hands a dog can go through before making it into rescue, even if they are still only puppies! We are truly blessed that dogs are so forgiving and willing to trust us terrible humans again so quickly. I struggle to look on Gumtree because I want to contact the people and have a reality chat with them. No your blue staffy is not rare. Your purebred dog should not be on sold undesexed. The fact your large bitsa escapes is your fault, not the dogs. That unwanted litter of pups was no accident given you have an entire male and female dog sharing a yard!
  24. Has anyone here been rejected? I must fess up to not having done anything about Tempeh because I'm terrified they will tell me no. We have had 3 dogs here for years but my sister's dog was always registered to mum and dad's place just around the corner from us. She only got around to changing it early last year when I think she decided she was staying with me for good. It would be just my luck if they said no to Temp given she stayed with us because she didn't want to live with anyone else!
  25. Lisey I recently sent a birthday card to a DOLer and accidentally wrote my old girl's name on it (along with the other dogs). I was shocked when I realised what I had done without thinking as it is almost 2 years since she left us. She is clearly still close by in my mind. I was also looking at her collection of dog coats thinking I'd better give them a wash, ready to wear now it is getting chilly at night. I'm not sad when this happens now but it still surprises me. She was just such a huge part of our life. Hopefully you will get to the stage of thinking about Lola Bear without the sadness. XXX
