  1. Deals Direct has some pretty decent priced crates, I can also vouch for their Pet Jet Washer...absolutely amazing, I can wash two reluctant dogs in under 10 mins with that (and get them dried using one of those awesome microfiber towels)
  2. I have an 8yo JRT Tess, she has never been crate trained, I had never heard of crate training until about 6 months ago. I have crate trained my other pup (15 week old Golden Lexi) and she is more than happy to spend time in her crate As for Tess she often steals Lexis crate, so I considered getting her one, but I dont know if I should go the same way about training her to be comfortable using it, with Lexi I fed her in it and locked her in for short periods...now she is happy to go in whenever, except at bed time, but thats only because she doesnt want to go to bed (If anyone has any suggestions to stop this that would be great, she is going to get to big for me to physically put in soon) Im not sure if this is the right way to go with Tess, as I said she often steals Lexis, but that is because she is the dominant of the two, when it comes to being locked up and left alone she barks constantly, as I found recently when both my dogs started training on the same day, Lexi goes first and Tess barks in the crate the whole time, even with a juicy bone to eat, when Tess has her class Lexi is happy to sit quietly or sleep in it until we are done
  3. Success again today, did the same thing with the clicker and treats, Im just hoping when I start to faze out the clicker she will still go...after all she squats a few times now and I dont know if she has learned that squat means treat, or if she is doing lots of little wees Her treats are these chicken and liver chunky things, I think the brand is Natures Own...Ive cut them into tiny bite sized pieces 4am is a completely different story to 5am...one of the reasons why I leave them sleeping until not long before I leave lol
  4. Ok well I think Ill be going with Royal Canin Junior for Lexi, then of course on to the Retriever variety when she is older, and for my JRT Ill be going with Science Diet Sensitive Skin I think Ill start feeding sardines once a week, and she will be getting chicken necks instead of tin, although Ill be phasing the tin out slowly, I am going on holidays for two weeks in a fortnight, and I want to keep her on tin until I get home again, more convenient that way Ive seen some people say they feed natural yoghurt and eggs, what do these do for the dogs?
  5. Thanks Sags that will be great, I just want an estimate, Im going to Pet Barn to see what they have in stock and compare products and prices today, I dont think they sell Pro Pac but If I decide to go with that then I can get it off my agility club, which Ill be going to tonight
  6. Well success today, I went out with a couple of treats and clicker, she was still a bit submissive at first but the first time she squatted I clicked and got all excited saying "yay Lexi go wees" then I rolled a ball for her, then she squatted another two times which both resulted in rewards, Im not sure which one was the successful one, but no leaking!! Lexi is coming on a long trip with me in a couple of weeks, so it will be good if she at least sort of know what the command means for that lol
  7. Awww good luck with her!! Goldens are so much fun Lexi was about the same size as my JRT Tess when I got her, now at 15 weeks old Tess can nearly walk straight under her belly...boy do they grow fast lol
  8. What exactly are the benefits of feeding a totally raw diet, as opposed to a high quality dry/mince with bones and chicken necks as treats?
  9. Ive adjusted to waking up at 5am fairly well, for me a sleep in in 6am, I start work by 7 or 8 most days so Im up that early just to get the dogs organised and myself organised before I have to leave...sometimes Im travelling an hour for work, sometimes I travel for 5 mins, it changes on a weekly basis I think some of it might have to do with my work, because I do shift work the earliest start I have is 5.30am, meaning Im leaving the house at 4.50, because Ive just moved to Brisbane Im terrified of cane toads, and reluctant to let them out especially if its dark unless Ive had a chance to check the yard out first...on those days Im waking at 4 and leave them sleeping until not long before I leave, on those days I literally put her food down, open the back door, and leave. I dont do that shift often, but Ive done 4 in the last 2 weeks, and I think thats affected her. For this week Im starting at 7, so plenty of time to spend with her before I leave, so hopefully ill see improvement...
  10. Thanks for that, Ill give it a read Just a query, does raw end up costing more, less or generally the same as dry/tinned would? just asking because Im feeding two dogs, and Im used to only feeding one JRT, and Im on a budget, I want the best for my dogs, but it needs to be affordable
  11. lol, Ive been reading this forum all day waiting to get approved and now Im so overwhelmed Im a little confused and muddled, which is why I decided to make a thread of my own on the topic Is there any threads which come to mind which you find really helpful in regards to the raw diet?
  12. I have a 15 week old Golden, from day 1 she has been very good about going outside, she has only had a few accidents inside and they were mainly because I didnt let her out soon enough. My problem is in the morning, she is crate trained and is happy to sleep in her crate all night, but when I let her out in the morning she isnt interested in going to "do wees" for some reason I cant get her to associate "go do wees" with doing a wee, and in the morning, for some reason (unknown why, Ive had her since she was 8 weeks) she thinks she is in trouble and starts submissive weeing when I take them outside for toilets (this is usually at about 5am so its not late at all) Any ideas on how I can get her to learn what the command means, and how I can convince her that in the morning, she wont get breakfast until she empties her bladder. I cant get her to go out on the grass and squat, she will sit at the door and leak (they sleep in the garage) or she will sit on the patio area and leak, but when I convince her to come onto the lawn she will lower herself in a submissive pose but she wont empty her bladder...Im at a loss, I dont have time on most mornings to sit and wait because I work really early most days, but even on the weekend when I do have time if I try to sit and wait she will run inside and sit at the door and leak Im aware that she doesnt realise she is doing it, she has never been punished for doing it, Im hoping she will grow out of it (she does it sometimes when she is excited too) what Im trying to do is teach her when to empty her bladder, because if its empty then it wont leak will it? lol
  13. lol dont worry Im dropping the Pal, she has 6 tins left, and Im considering just mixing that with my JRTs feed, after all she is used to it and has done all her growing, and she has more dry than wet, the wet is really just to get her to eat the dry I really with I had joined this forum a lot earlier, I really want to help her bone development early because I dont want her having joint issues when she is older, I have plans to get her trained for agility when she is old enough so she will need good strong bones lol How often do you recommend the chicken necks? one daily or just a couple of times a week? Ill go out and buy some tomorrow
  14. I do all my shopping either at Pet Barn or Deals Direct, I refuse to use any other pet store because I like how Pet Barn doesnt sell live animals (well, except fish and they have the odd hand raised bird) but you will never see a puppy or kitten for sale in a Pet Barn, plus they have a great rewards program especially with their food
  15. Are those brands available at Pet Barn? I was too lazy to go today to check brands and prices of what they have in stock lol I have tried giving her just dry, but she wasnt interested in it, if I put the wet on top of the dry she eats it all, my other dog used to be fed solely tinned food so I dont know if she would accept a fully dry diet either, but I guess if I add the sardines or chicken necks they would be ok Ive never actually fed chicken necks, are they something that the dogs can eat in one sitting? or do they last a while like bones do? Im only asking because if they last then because Id be feeding it as a meal and not a treat then Id have to supervise the pup...my JRT is definately boss over her
  16. There is only one oodle in my puppy class, we have a Ridgeback, Mastiff, 3xBorder Collies, Rotti, my Golden and a Labradoodle
  17. I have a 15 week old Golden, the breeder was feeding them cooked chicken mince and Pedigree Puppy dry food. When I got her I changed her to Pedigree Puppy tinned food (for convenience) and Supercoat Puppy (because once upon a time this was a good brand) Im not terribly happy with Supercoat, she is shedding her puppy coat and her new coat is very dry, and she is like a constant pooping machine, after reading a lot of people say on here that they wouldnt feed their dogs Supercoat Im fairly convinced I want to change From what Ive read the brands to go for are Advance, Eagle Pack, Royal Canin and Pro Plan, my agility club also recommends Pro Pac, but they are sponsored by Pro Pac so I dont know how much of that recommendation is influenced by that, does anyone have any advice on picking a new brand? I still have a lot of Supercoat left, but I wont be buying more of it so the sooner I find a new brand the sooner I can start changing them over I want to get rid of the tinned food completely, but until I can save up for a freezer in order to freeze raw chicken meat the tinned stuff is here to stay. I will be starting my JRT on a new brand as well, probably the same one when I decide...there is too much choice! What else can I feed them to help their dry coats? I know oil helps but that also makes them gain weight, and neither of them need that I do all my dog shopping at Pet Barn, so Id like a brand which is available there Thanks guys
