  1. The more water it holds the longer it will last, you don't have to keep taking it of and re-soaking it every half an hour like some of the chamois fabric ones. Has anyone tried the reflective coats that don't need to be soaked? Would be interesting to hear some reviews of those.
  2. No threads or slime here, wonder how on earth that happened
  3. To me the title of just regular champion says that the dog has been to dog shows... that's it. I know quite a few dogs who honestly shouldn't even be in the ring let alone winning and they are champions. Judges in this country don't non-award as much as they should and to fix that problem there wither needs to be a crack down on the standards judges have, OR tougher requirements for becoming a champion. I actually think that having an additional requirements for becoming a champion (such as winning one best in group or one 25 point CC) is a good idea. Yes it will make it harder, but do you really want a title that you can get simply by turning up anyway? BUT... this is a moot point, it has changed and most likely it will be a few years before we see the system change again.
  4. With all group wins to make a 1000 that's still 40 best in groups... Yes rare breeds still win big, mine had a BIS at our last group specialty plus several other all breeds BIG's but he's still nowhere near the points quota. I'm just saying reducing the points needed but upping the group requirements makes more sense. There are probably GrCh's out there on the old system who never won a group, they just slogged away getting small challenges until they hit 1000 points, while other dogs winning groups consistently never got the title.
  5. How many shows was that at over the 3 years? We only have 30-40 shows a year here is Tassie and at 6 points a show that makes 180 points a year. Providing I won best of breed at every single show it would take until the dog is 5 1/2 years old. I don't travel to every show PLUS there is competition at some shows and obviously I'm not always going to win taking that 5 1/2 years out a lot further. I know this is a touchy subject but maibnlanders really do have it easy. A friend of mine did one circuit and attended 20 shows over 5 weeks... that's half of what we have in a whole YEAR!
  6. Mum got hers in the mail today for her Basset Hound... 2 weeks delivery and it's absolutely fab. Clean Run Cool Coat
  7. Heard about this today... not a fan. They should have made regular Champion harder to get, it's such a cheap title now. Plus GRAND champion should be something like 500 points and 4 best in groups... 1000 points is almost unachievable for those of us with rare breeds so they should have reduced the points and kept the group requirements. I do like the supreme requirements though, will be good to see that only a select few dogs can gain that title.
  8. My Cresteds favourite toy is his chocolate scented teddy bear. Granted my partner bought it for me for valentines day but he claimed it. It's just a normal teddy bear but obviously... it smells like chocolate.
  9. 1 female miniature poodle (desexed) 1 male miniature poodle (desexed) 1 male chinese crested (entire)
  10. Powder blue or turquoise. They are the colors of my two favourite suits and they seem to go well with just about every dog I have shown.
  11. You can buy baskets like this from bunnings in varying sizes:
  12. Remember, those stats are just members, not people who are actively competing. A lot of BYB's are now joining so they can claim to be registered.
  13. Come to think of it amypie I think that second one might be the one she ordered, I remember her saying something about it being blue. Either way, it's a saving, the one she went to buy locally was over $60
  14. Half the price of most of the Aus ones and free shipping, my mum just ordered one. Clean Run Cool Coats
  15. I wore my Chinese Crested t-shirt to our Royal last year, had more people asking about the breed from me wearing the shirt than when I was walking the dog around. Mind you the fact it had printed on it "Life's short, play naked" may have had something to do with it.
  16. I would be more than happy to provide information (pamphlets etc) on my breed and do meet and greets at shows. Sounds like a great idea and would get the public more involved.
  17. Anything that washes out is not a dye. My boy has gold flecks on his socks, by using the white shampoo it really brightens up his legs and almost makes the gold dissapear, but after a few days they are back to their grubby gold color again. If it were dying or bleaching the hair his feet would not go back to normal after just a day or 2 with no bathing in between. The whitening shampoos have that blue tinge and yes it does stay on the hair but it's no different than using chalk... both fade away fast and aren't permanent.
  18. If it is purely for identification and peace of mind look into buying or even sewing a soft collar lined with satin for around the house and then switch to a regular collar when you go for walks.
  19. Some of them do contain dyes, some of them don't, when I come out of my 'dilusional' fantasies I read the bottles and make sure I buy a color enahncer, not a dye. It's like purple shampoos, they do not contain dyes, they merely trick your eye in to thinking the hair is whiter by the way the light reflects. Are you going to tell me products like Cowboy Magic contain dyes? That changes my boys feet from gold to white and his crest from dark grey to black with one wash, it just reflects the light better and your eye sees a more pleasing color.
  20. I agree with you, there are some that have too much, but the majority IMO don't. I mentioned sight hounds because most sight owners aren't a fan of the scents. True, Beagles are used as sniffer and hunting dog but I reckon a Basset would give them a run for their money. Look at Bloodhounds, best nose out of all of them... loose skin, long ears.
  21. But how do those 'smooth' dogs with small ears trap the scent? I have seen a 'horrible wrinkly' Basset in action and trust me he gets some speed up and can go for miles once he's on to a scent! Don't judge a book by it's cover, just because they look dopey and slow doesn't mean they are. I'm guessing you are a sighthound person or a large 'skinny' breed owner?
  22. A Basset Hound should have short legs, they are supposed to be low to the ground to aid in keeping track of the scent. The wrinkling and large ears are all aimed at directing the scent to the nose. A Beagle type head will not be as effective in directing the scent. If you have ever actually seen a wrinkly Basset on the hunt they don't look like the ones on that pedigreedogsexposed page, it's nose down, tail up and RUN! The loose skin does not hamper them one bit. PLUS, the loose skin is actually a form of protection to prevent tearing while they are running through scrub.
  23. Some people cannot handle losing. I remember in primary schoool we had our yearly cross country. I would come last every year. My best friend who used to win every year decided on the last ever cross country in grade 6 she would walk the course with me and finish just behind me so I didn't come last in our last year at that school. Sorry, off-topic but that just reminded me of that, feeling nostalgic now. The b*tchiness has always been there, I don't see it in every breed or with every person though. When I was a newcomer to my breed the current people in it were fantastic to me. The whole group has generally been very supportive and we all congratulate each other on our wins.
  24. So Chris Brown got slammed for promoting pet shops, then he jumped onto the rescue wagon to attempt to get back some reputation, now he's back promoting oodles and essentially pet stores and puppymills... fantastic. And as I type this the advertisement for Tasmanian Labradoodles came on television... omen?
