  1. There was a lady here in Tas who used to show her dogs in one of those mobility scooters, most people just marvelled at how well trained they were trotting alongside it. You also have the "judge must have been a perve" or the "Oh he's gay so he put up the other gay guy".
  2. +1 If the judge was honest I will give them another entry in the future. If they are are honest but not "good" I will still give them another entry because who know s what will happen after 2 years when they can come back.
  3. Both agree and disagree with this... I have done well under some judges and yes would definitely show under them again, but then there are other dogs who you KNOW are going to win group before you even set foot in the ring just because they turned up to a show. Almost makes you want to pack up and go home and just not bother.
  4. They are the results from the show in Tassie today from the sounds of it
  5. I go with the idea of "what's done is done", I don't need to see photos of something that had already happened... nothing I can do about it now so why show me? All it does is upset me. Links to petitions relating to aniaml cruelty trying to get harsher sentencing or posts related to a recent horrible dog-related event that promote donating to certain "helpful" organizations fine... but no photos please.
  6. I take mine to the dog park in the "off" times. I know just before 5pm and around school knock off time it is usually dead so that's when we go. If I do encounter another dog at the park I usually do a bit of a lap around it before going in. I watch the other dogs interacting and if I think they are too boisterous or do not like the way they are behaving I simply don't go in. I only take older dogs to the park, younger pups socializing time is spent sitting outside cafes in town, we have a bakery right outside our local supermarket so that is perfect for the pup to sit and watch everyone go by.
  7. Gumtree needs to add a list of organizations that they recognize as being "Registered". NUMBER 4 on their pet guidelines: Know who you are sourcing the pet from and if it is a breeder, confirm with the relevant organizations that their license is recognised. To me that sounds like more than typical council registrations.
  8. I don't know about illegal, more misleading than anything, but it is against Gumtrees policy and yes, you can report the post and have it removed if you think it does not meet their guidelines. They havea strict policy that non-registered breeders cannot sell a dog or pup over $500 which is why some people put 'registered' even though they are not.
  9. I'll will come and give it a rub for good luck
  10. I have a couple of poodles here who just didn't like the show ring. I had them desexed and they became fat, happy house pets. Well, 2 years of free-runs at the park, getting down and dirty and they are both now extremly outgoing. Due to their temperament problems early on I wouldn't breed from them even if they were still entire, but they are more than qualified in terms of conformation to compete. I was tempted to grow my boys coat back to show in neuter but it's just too much work considering we only have a couple of shows offering neuter classes here a year. To me a neuter should be just as good as a dog in regular conformations shows, just without the "bits".
  11. It would depend... is there any purebred that can do the same job? Many people use the excuse of crossing breeds to achieve a certain 'trait' when it already exists in many purebreds. I'm stepping a little out of my branch of knowledge here but with cross breds there is no average hip and elbow scores right? So how do you know for sure the scores of the pups (if they are going to be bred from) are good enough? 12 is acceptable for a Lab, but it might not be for another breed, cross the two together and you don't have a difinitive number.
  12. *Starts concocting a daring plan to steal Jenni Palmers mat at the next show* Haha congrats to the winners.
  13. GSD went runner up in show (all breeds) here in Tassie yesterday. There are some really nice ones that do well from different kennels.
  14. I know few people who use ones like the pic Sway posted, only I think they are larger. Bunnings has some great tool boxes like this and no postage required ;)
  15. What would it be about? Ethical Breeders - They are out there. What would it cover? How to find a responsible and ethical breeder (where, when, why and how).
  16. Yes but when you see a dog in real life it isn't 1 inch square, plus it's moving so you CAN see multiple angles not just dodgy photos. I have some photos of my dogs that make them look totally different than they do in real life.
  17. Working group is predominantly herding breeds but it was the large and physically active that made me think Working or Utility being a game hunting breed (but not a gundog). UK, USA and Canada all have Danes in the Working group. Just my thinking behind it. Like I said, everyone has different ideas about where their breeds belong.
  18. A lot of people have breeds they think don't belong in a certain group. In my opinion Shih Tzus should be in the toy group, Great Danes should probably be in the Working group etc, but I go with the theory of if it aint broke don't fix it.
  19. Just keep a close eye on him. If he starts shaking, drooling, whining etc then it's off to the vet straight away. Some dogs can tolerate chocolate, others can't, it's a bit of a waiting game. One of mine ate a bag of choc buttons a few months back, he was shaking and whining so we rushed off to the vet... on the way there he threw up EVERYWHERE in the car and by the time we got to the vet was pretty much back to normal, we were lucky.
  20. Oooh they are fab, wonder if they would be fine for Crestie skin though as they can't wear sheep wool? Edited for "stupid fingers".
  21. I have Miniatures and one needed a 30cm long coat and the other needed a 40cm long... there really is no one size fits all, even within the sizes. BUT id you stick around 35cm in length you are bound to find a poodle it would fit, that's pretty well the mid-range.
  22. How awful There are a group of kids here who go over the back to kick the footy around every show, they are always very well behaved. I can see how easy it would be for a child to get bored at a dog show, parents need to think of some ways to keep them occupied. They have portable DVD players for under $50 now, would make a great Christmas present that would be useful for shows ;)
