  1. Depends on the size of the dog. I bought a little weatherbeata for my Crested and it was too stiff, even after washing and massaging the fabric, when he sat down the whole back of the coat stuck out behind him. For larger breeds though they fit really nicely and are good quality.
  2. Thanks guys Don't want to take over dogsrawesome's thread, just thought I'd post that to show what including white areas can do to add dimension, and how solid black parts look a bit flat.
  3. Grids are a great idea to get used to proportions. I usually sketch out the basic shape very lightly and then work on the detail. Remember the light areas are just as important, if not more important than the dark areas. Even if a dog is black and tan, leaving some areas white helps show up the shadows and depth more. I noticed in your other thread you got some feedback on light and dark which you have listened to and put to use in your new GSD pic. Can you see how your new one has so much more depth and feels more 'real'. You certainly have the talent there dogsrawesome, keep at it! Actually, I will include the pic I did for ish here because I can point out the things I don't like about it (which I'm hoping will help you). I loved this picture when it was finished but after staring at it and staring at it there are quite a few things I would like to have changed. The shading over the back half is far too dark, I did the front very textured and light, but the back half is just dark. Even though the back half of the dog is black, I should have included more light areas. I also want to fly over with my pencils and just touch up that left eye just a little
  4. Hi ish *waves* I might post it in another thread if that's ok with you, it was your beautiful model I drew after all
  5. Gorgeous Dane, well done on the title!!!
  6. Our dog show car is an old as the hills Falcon. My parents bought a new Falcon Wagon a couple of years ago and were disappointed that the gazeebo can't fit in the back without taking the barrier down. Ours however has plenty of room for the gazeebo, trolleys, tack box and dogs. It is a 98 model I believe. Not pretty, but has the biggest back out of all the Falcon wagons.
  7. Love your drawings. I agree, maybe just the eye placement a little different, other than that it's coming along great! Most people don't mind, but just a little word or warning, drawing and publishing pictures from photographs that other people have taken is actually a bit of a no-no. I know it's only a hobby at the moment, but if you decide to take your art further and sell prints or anything like that, just make sure you use your own photos or get permission :D
  8. West Tamar council is TAS has a 2 dog limit for residential areas no exceptions. Launceston city council is 2 dogs unless you apply for a kennel license.
  9. Our neighbors GSD jumped our fence and killed our rabbit about a year ago. I wasn't angry at the dog at all, I was angry at the neighbors for not controlling their dog. I have pet rats in the living room, their cage is locked up tighter than Fort Knox. I trust the dogs not to touch the rats when I am home, they even sit on their backs and ride around, but I would never trust them alone together, they are dogs, rats are food.
  10. I have never had it with the Crested But I have been asked several times at the park with the Poodles if they are available at stud. One was another Poodle, quite a nice little bitch but the rest are usually people with Cavaliers wanting to make "cavoodles". One lady was most upset when I told her my black poodle was female and desexed because she had a female Cavalier and really wanted black cavoodles.
  11. And you own or breed a docked breed? Yes, I replied back on page 3, I own Poodles.
  12. Black Poodles have no smell at all, even when they have been out in the rain. White Poodles STINK!!! Especially when wet, it's hard to describe but he gets this lanolin, oily sheep smell to him, it's bizarre.
  13. Oi vey, why is it that every single topic that mentions tail docking some clown has to bring up tail breakage or damage. If the issue of having full tails is that they damage them why aren't Dalmatians docked? Why aren't Whippets docked? They have thin tails. Heck I even know a Great Dane who broke her tail several times whacking it on door frames, maybe they should become a docked breed as well? I'm not anti-tail docking, but some of the excuses... sorry... arguments people come up with are plain ridiculous.
  14. Both my poodles have full tails, I admit, I prefer the look of them docked. You can't get that perfect ball with a natural tail, you get pipe cleaners instead.
  15. I haven't been to many cash shows, I have won a total of $50 I think... it cost me $90 in petrol just to get to one of those shows. You put more money into showing than you get back that's for sure. My opinion on show vs pet prices is that with a show dog you are paying for a dog that will be worthy in the breeders eye of winning awards. It's not about the money, it's about the prestige of winning. Pets often have some sort of fault, be it color or structure, it doesn't affect the pet owner, but it does mean that they can't get the recognition of being a "top dog". That doesn't matter to most people, they just want a nice family pet. But if you want a show dog, that is an excellent example of the breed from a hard working, reputable breeder, I don't mind paying extra.
  16. Lovely drawings! Love that Shar Pei, great work!
  17. Ring ropes on the ground is a great idea! With a toy breed your eye tends to be looking at the ground more than anything and I have seen a few people have near misses. Another one I have seen is people nearly running into is gazeebos set up inside the ring. Having them set up just inside the ring for those waiting in the race is fine but maybe make the legs a bit more obvious to avoid crashes. One thng I would love to see in North Tassie is a ground with indoor facilities but I know that is just not possible at the moment
  18. I use a squeeky when mine is the only dog in the ring for the breed classes, but for breed or if I make it to BIG then I just pretend I have something in my hand, mine are too silly to know the difference
  19. I had my 12 month old poodle neutered when I found out I would be getting an entire male. He is the sweetest natured dog anyway but I wanted to have them running together so got him fixed just as a precaution. There is no guarantee it would help but for me that small chance was better than nothing. They have been living together for over a year with no problems at all. He also used to drive my female poodle CRAZY after she had a bath and get himself rather "worked up". That has completely stopped.
  20. I have pet rats. One of my poodles catches mice in the house and kills them, but she will walk around with the pet rats riding on her back. They know the difference.
  21. I've only had 2 cash BIGs, one was $15 and a trophy, the other was a $20 gift card, then $10 gift card for class in show. I was happy with the amount, the giftcard were coles/myer/kmart so were very useful.
  22. I have found that to be a problem here at some shows. Some of the grounds are pretty small (for those Tassie people I'm thinking of Westbury) and the "crack of dawners" set up along the edge of the ring (which is fine, first come and all) but a lot of people have to set up on the other side of the gravel road. Wouldn't be so bad if the ring entrance was on that side but when you have a trolley and can't just duck through the barrier it's a heck of a trek all the way around the rings.
