If it was me, id opt for a dog run. safer, more secure and less risk of any issues should your dog manage to get through an electric fence (which is a strong possibility.)

Its your responsibility to do something that works with your dog. It may be that you need to try a few different methods.

What HAVE you tried that has failed? i know you were given a fair few options in your previous post. what method is your dog still getting through? have you watched HOW your dog gets out? is it climbing or jumping? that will effect the effectiveness of electric fencing systems.

Pet hate of mine is people making excuses for aggressive dogs. Bottom line is this dog attacked the lab causing injuries. It needs to be reported.

My boy was attacked when he was a pup and is not DA. That's a piss poor excuse. Even if it was the case that it's DA is a result of it's previous attack then.... Shock horror... How about try some TRAINING with the dog and NOT let it in dog parks.

After dealing with owners like the one of the DA dog, let me tell you now any dog that approaches my boy in any way that is aggressive will cop my wrath. I tell owners I will do whatever is needed to protect my dog and if that means kicking your dogs ribs in, so be it. Owners need to step up and take responsibility for their dogs actions. Just because a dog is DA doesn't mean it's not a nice dog or it's owner is a bad person it just means they need to do some work.

Report report report. Only way to protect other dogs of this in the future.

I don't frequent dog parks all that much but if I do on an off chance, I Also often get my phone out and video dogs approaching mine as evidence. Owners of DA dogs generally get the picture and POQ once this happens. Also note vehicle registrations of the owners vehicle. May help track them down.

My 16 month old desexed boy does the same thing.

I was finding him with his engorged 'member' hanging out and couldnt work out what he was humping (hes not normally a humper so it was strange to find him like that). THEN I CAUGHT HIM!!!!

He lays on his side and cocks his leg up. he then licks and nibbles his penis and humps his stomach until.....well......he finishes lol.

Is it normal.......god knows. im sure he thinks it is lol.

I havent found him doing it for a little while now but no doubt he still does it when im not around lol.

thanks guys. i just rang the 24 hr emergency vet. they said to rub sugar water onto it and see what happens. if its not down in about an hr ill ring them back.

Its only about 1 cm poking out the end and i can pull the sheath out from around the tip so i dont think its cutting off circulation...it just wont go back in. bit of a mystery.

Ive gotta be up for work at 4 am....damn dogs lol.

how long should i put it in the cold water for? ill give it a go and see if it helps him.

after some advice

i came home tonight to find the tip of my dogs penis stuck out. Ive had this happend several times before with my previous dog and it was always due to hair getting stuck and the sheath being unable to retract.

But this seems a bit different. i have tried to assist getting the sheath over the tip but it isnt working. its as if the sheath is swollen? or its trying to go over the tip but its getting stuck (although i cant find any reason for it not going over the tip) its not folded back on itself at all. i can gently pull it back and it does that fine but just wont go over the top of his penis. ive put lubricant on it but no success.

Hes not bothered by it at all. not licking it or anything. for info hes a 14 month old desexed GSP.

I guess im a little worried as i cant get it to go back in. when should i begin to be concerned? Will it just sort itself out?

Trust it to happen on public holidays too.....i swear my dogs and horses know when to have issues lol

Yep I have it for my 15 month old GSP and have had it since he was 12 weeks old. Personally I wouldn't be without it. I could never forgive myself if he needed some sort of expensive treatment/surgery and I couldn't afford it.

I have the highest level cover for around $40 ish per month. To me its worth it. I think the key is to work out what's covered and see if it suits your needs.

As others have said, Putting money away each pay is also another good option too.

hmmm after doing some reading it appears that 2 c3 vaccinations as puppies plus a KC are considered ample now days. I hope im reading it right. interesting reading actually. overvaccination etc.

Ok so im forced into boarding my dog for 2 weeks due to me being sent over to help with the earthquake in NZ.

Ive looked at my boys vaccination card and im slightly concerned he may have missed a dose. Its got two c3 vaccinations and a kennel cough nasal spray on it. one of the c3 was when he was around 8 weeks old and the second at about 13 weeks old. both these were given by his breeder before i got him.

When i picked him up i made an appt with my vet to get his final vaccinations. On that appt he was given the nasal spray and i was told he was now covered until 12 months time. they wrote the date on my vaccination card when he was next due and it was 12 months ago next month.

Does it sound right to you guys? i think he should have gotten a c5 when i took him to the vet but being new to it all i obviously either didnt pick up on it or trusted the vets opinion.

am i risking my boys health boarding him with his current vaccination status? would i even be aloud to board him?

arghhhhh im a little stressed. I fly out friday.

Hey guys.

After recommendations for boarding kennels in sa who would take a dog on very short notice for 2 weeks.

I'm flying out to NZ for work to help out with the earthquake but I'll be gone for 2 weeks and am thinking a kennel would be the safest bet for him. He's well socialized and a great boy but I don't want to stress my family with looking after him for that period of time.

Every person, including police have tacit consent to enter and approach the front door of a premises, unless asked to leave BUT if police are responding to an incident they may remain on the property to investigate the incident.....as fabulously described in the above posts by people who actually BOTHER to search the correct and appropriate legislation.

This officer is at work doing his job and get bitten by a savage dog but sure sure, it was the cops fault. Get a grip on some reality seriously.

I do hope you never require the services from police regarding a DV situation or other serious offence. I guess you would expect them to get to your propertys boundry and just stop. Oh no WAIT....if it was YOU then you would want them to come on your property without asking you first.......am i right.

i know there is a post similar to this one running at the moment but i didnt want to hijac it.

I need ideas (and possibly behavioural advice) regarding my dogs complete inatention and disregard for me when outside of the house.

I have had this issue for a little while now and although he is definatley better than he was i still feel like i need to work on the issue.(im 100% certain its something im doing so i really need some advice)

Inside the house i have his undivided attention. I can use the lowest of the low value treat and i still have his eyes on me, waiting. Step outside of the house and i have a completely different dog. He is inatentive and at times disobedient. He is often so distracted that even when he does something positive and i click and reward, he completely ignores the reward and doesnt take it. This makes it difficult to positively mark his good behaviours because even though he offers what i ask, he is still distracted from my existence whilst doing so.....i hope that makes sense. In short, basically he is well behaved but i know that i have absolutely no attention from him and when i do ask him to say 'watch' me, im 99% unlikely to get it in an instant. Its usually based on me sitting for about 5+ minutes before he disengages from whatever is distracting him and looks at me.

My train of thought is that the outside world holds a hugely higher value than ANYTHING i am offering him and he chooses to self engage in that. Which is where i need some ideas of really juicy, sloppy messy awesome high value rewards to shift his high value of the outside world, more towards me.

He is a positive, happy go lucky tempermented dog and his behaviour is not a negative one as such, its just an overly stimulated one. He is a high energy, extremely social GSP.

My idea as of tonight is to bring him rigggghhhhht back to basics of standing on my driveway and offering a massive high value treat every time he looks at me. From there i will slowly progress to adding distractions and moving locations etc. Do others think this will be a positive step? if not, what other ideas do people suggest?

Ive also been reading up on susan garretts 'ruff love' methods. I do like alot of the concepts and although i probably wont be in a position to follow it 100% due to work commitments im also feeling like it may be something worth trying so i can set clear boundaries etc. what are peoples thoughts?

as far as treats:

Ive done boiled meats (chicken, beef etc), slow oven cooked liver (home made), fish, fritz (which so far is his highest value treat but even so it gets ignored whilst outside the house), cheese, and an array of shop bought, chewy treats. none of them have really tickled his fancey. he will eat them but is in no way obsessed with me when im holding one. he is not very toy motivated at the best of times and im working really hard on building drive in that department. i know a toy would be of no reward to him outside of the house (it barely holds any value inside the house)

I was thinking of things like canned dog or cat food, tuna, gravy dipped beet/chicken treats etc but im wondering how i will be able to effectively use them without getting completely covered in gunk. Has anyone got any ideas for crazy, messy, delicious treats that have worked successfully with their dogs?

sorry if this is a bit of a ramble but ive just got home from a very uninspiring session with my boy and im needing a bit of advice and motivation

For info, he is attending regular obedience and is just starting puppy agility this coming week. he is highly distracted whilst at obedience and although i can usually keep him working with me, its a constant effort which is a bit hit and miss.

He also gets a 30 min run off leash in the mornings and a few short training sessions mixed in with a walk/off leash run of about 45-60 mins in the evening every day. He is well excercised

he is 14 months old. so still a baby, i know, but i feel i really need to sort this out. Im completely convinced he is mentally capable of doing what i ask of him.

My advice to you, coming from my employment within the justice system is get advice from a solicitor. Not from here As well meaning as people are, these situations are rarely black and white. And whilst from what you have described I believe you have a good chance of success, there are likely many clauses in the 'contract' and legislation that may need to be considered by someone with knowledge in this area.

Keep times, dates and copies of all conversations. Document everything you did for each specific dog and the circumstances surrounding how the dog came to you. Your solicitor will direct you towards any other useful things they will need.

Im really wanting to further my knowledge this year (well every year to be honest but this year im really taking it more seriously) I am very keen to attend as many clinics as possible but only seem to find out about them once they are all sold out.

Sooooooo is there a secret clinic booking place i need to go to????
