  1. Is there enough meat on a vegan to feed that many cats and dogs?
  2. I wasn't having a go, it just wasn't clear to me There are definitely APBTs here, I'm not sure how (or if) they are registered.
  3. There was an existing population prior to restriction. I have been led to believe that this is not the case. I have not been shown any records to prove the case so I stand corrected if this is so. Two pure bred Pit Bulls were brought legally into this country many years ago and both went to the Gulf Country. To cut a long story short the dog was shot on the chain as he was so savage and totally unmanageable. The bitch was never bred from and also shot to get her off the shoulder of the owner as she had pinned him down. Just your trivia for the day :D Are you suggesting that these were the only two purebred APBTs brought legally into this country? I don't know their history with the ANKC, I didn't think there was one.
  4. I want to know how they knew they were "purebred" pitbull pups? There are definitely pitbulls down here, but how do you know when the pups have been dumped? Were they dumped with papers?
  5. There was an existing population prior to restriction.
  6. Missed the post but that wouldn't be Capone by any chance? Some do well In and have been titled In Schutzhund as well, It Is not their forte though and they're much better suited to other working roles Yes it was They don't have the mouth for SchH but it seems to be fine for Ring sports. Control is certainly not what they lack! I'm not too proud to admit my GSD doesn't have an out that good.
  7. It was a video of a pitbull performing a FRII routine, complete with the displays of control in bitework that Matthew seems to think only GSDs are capable of. However, given the context, I thought it would be misunderstood.
  8. I think we need to keep the message simple and consistent - taking pitbulls out of the population has not prevented a single dog bite wherever it has been tried.
  9. OMG, and you call me uneducated?!?!?! No, I didn't call you uneducated. You formed that opinion on your own, regardless of the facts. As it happens, I work with aggressive dogs. I make them safe. In order to do that I have to know what causes dogs to fight or bite. I send them back often to homes with kids, and I would not do that in good conscience if I didn't know exactly what I was doing.
  10. Aren't you fighting fire with fire here? Ie, looking for the part of the post with which you have a quarrel (exaggerating the alpha dog stuff) and ignoring the more substantive part (tough dog bred for big game, courageous, not recommended as a pet). Your moniker suggests that sympathetic rather than argumentative listening would be better. The author started off talking about one sort of dog then generalised to all dogs. Having worked with a lot of types of dogs, it isn't true and perpetuates the myth that dogs are inherently violent and need to be kept subdued in order to be safe. The reality is that dogs do everything they can to avoid a fight. We really have to push them over the edge to get that behaviour from them, intentionally or otherwise. If an undercurrent of thugs are still breeding game-bred dogs then we should be policing this activity, certainly. My moniker is a figure of speech, I really don't think we need to argue about it.
  11. Well if you believe (as the author of this piece seems to) that dogs go around fighting and biting to establish dominance at any opportunity they get, then a ban on any dog seems like a very good idea.
  12. It's just so callous to call for action that all available evidence tells us will not help, when children's safety is at stake. I can understand people being ignorant of the facts, but surely it behooves politicians who make these laws to make the enquiry, consult with the people we fund to research these issues, see what the experience in other jurisdictions has been, and then make an informed decision? What other area of public health would we allow legislators to ride so rough-shod over, so willingly?
  13. I noticed you haven't answered my earlier question, Matthew, "how do you explain the fact that bites and fatalities occur at exactly the same rate if you remove all pitbulls from the population?"
  14. No Matthew, the point is that pitbulls have been banned and eradicated in various jurisdictions over the last 20 years or more. As best as we can determine, not a single bite has been prevented using this strategy. What do you say to that? The breed needs to be eradicated until it ceases to exist. Simple. It can't attack/kill you if it's extinct. OK, I see your point, but how do you explain the fact that bites and fatalities occur at exactly the same rate if you remove all pitbulls from the population?

  16. It was a deliberate non-sequitur, to highlight his non-sequitur. "I got attacked by a pitbull, therefore pitbulls should be banned" vs "I got attacked by a person, therefore persons should be banned". Neither logically follows.
  17. Are you under the age of 6? Are you trying to argue that only a pitbull would attack a child under the age of 6, and not a person or another breed of dog? Or that even a Beagle or JRT wouldn't be able to seriously injure a child that young? I can see why your parents let their 5 year old child play cricket in a public area without supervision, you must have been one tough little dude to break a cricket bat over a dog's head, then threaten the owner with it and drive off. I was being sarcastic, in response to the childishness of your comment regarding banning people because you've been attacked by a person or persons. Please come back when you are an adult. Ouch! OK then buddy, I'll come back when I'm old enough not to rely on ad-hominem attacks and logical fallacies.
  18. If he wasn't trying to claim that he was under 6 then he just used the worst burn ever

  20. I've been attacked by people before. People are a menace and should be banned.
  21. Rene Hidding wears his pro-BSL sentiments proudly on his sleeve, it's just not clear where he would stop.
  22. Particularly the academics who they have paid to investigate this sort of problem.
