This is a very old procedure which has been replaced with newer improved procedures (in a young dog DPO or TPO likely). I would ask for referral to a specialist and discuss the pro's and cons's of these.

Encouraging news!!!, fingers crossed for Monday. Sorry you are going thru with this but great you have more positive news! :)

Then I'd also be seeking a second opinion. Without a biopsy it's a guess, an educated guess but still a guess. A biopsy can be taken with sedation via ultrasound guidance if it's in a suitable position, but really a laparotomy to actually visualize and sample is required. Poor guy, glad he's back eating again.

Did your vet offer exploratory surgery wirh a biopsy of the intestine? It's absolutely the only way to know what it is.
-
If the ligament hasn't actually torn yet, the surgeon will sometimes not open the joint when doing a TTA or TPLO, which makes for a quicker recovery and leads to a much faster return to full function, as well as less chance of arthritis down the track.

Have you been back to the vet who saw it in the first place??

For example, breeding a healthy Standard Poodle to a healthy Labrador is actually not likely to cause any health issues for either the dam or the puppies so if we want to argue that it shouldn't be done and be taken seriously by the wider community we need another factual reason, not just "ANKC recognised purebreds are better". Actually 'labradoodles' (hate even writing that) have a higher incidence of HD than either of those purebreds.

According to this they are labradoodles with a different name. http://www.the-austr...-cobberdog.com/ As if we didnt all know the issue has been for quite some time that a labradoodle was anything from an F1 cross to something that was multi generational and multi generational with a view to a new breed. We could clearly see the difference between a labradoodle which is an F1 cross , a multi generational labradoodle which had not been selected for the development of a breed , Australian Labradoodles which had been registered with various registries and those which were applying to join us - back then they were called Authentic Australian Labradoodle - which had different infusions and had been selected for certain traits and qualities. Their dogs were not eligible for registration with Labradoodle registries because it was a different gene pool . The major condition the MDBA placed on them which we needed to have changed was their name so the public could easily see the difference. . They have been hip and elbow scoring and testing for 20 plus genetic disorders - they are every bit as dedicated to the betterment of their breed and future generations, not just the litter on the ground as any pure bred breeders I have ever met. I have to admit I didnt expect they would change the name so easily because there had been a lot of marketing world wide promoting the labradoodle but they gave the name up in a heart beat and decided on this new name. So the website Pippa referenced is right - they were previously known as Authentic Australian Labradoodles but they were and are very far removed from a lab cross poodle and had many other breeds infused - Sheridan could just as easily name two other breeds which were used in the recipe to advise someone as she did with different results - which is why they are now called Australian Cobberdogs. Some people will believe breeds in development are cross breeds until the day after they are accepted as a breed by the ANKC and that the breeders should be beaten, humiliated and treated as if they are doing some terrible things for the 15 plus years they need to stick it out to get to be accepted. We happen to believe that what we are doing is better for the dogs, the breeds and the breeders, owners and the community as the registry is kept by a third party arms length registry rather than a breed registry , with rules and regs for their members while they wait out their 15 years to get to the criteria for recognition. We get to have their breed standards analysed by experts to be sure they don't leave wide open doors for breeding to extremes, we can see what the test results are and if anything turns up in the gene pool the breeders need to take action on along the way we can see it and advise them. Where can I see what '20+' genetic disorders these dogs are tested for please?

Kirty is correct, for post op orthopedic pain relief we combine it with a NSAID at usually 2mg/kg, but usually 3 times daily (every 8 hours).

I know it is disappointing when this happens. However, until you have attended a Royal Show as a dog exhibitor you cannot understand how little consideration the exhibitors get from a/ the show organisers and b/ from many if not most of the general public. The exhibitors and the dogs get tired and cranky and have demands put on them by many and there is the constant threat of interference with the dogs. I remember one Royal I went to the toy of the show was a thing on a stick that when flicked it unfurled a length of plastic about 2 feet long. We spent all day protecting our dogs from kids flicking these things at the dogs. The space between the benches and the rails got less and less and the public were able to get to less than a metre from the dogs. There was no space for exhibitors to sit and we were constantly told by organisers to get off the benches, having something to eat or drink with fellow exhibitors is almost an impossibility due to space and While the Royal is a great opportunity to showcase breeds as it should be the exhibitors too are entitled to some down time and consideration. We pay enough to be there. However, there are always some exhibitors who are a little precious. I am sorry though T that you did not get any Airedale snuggles or cuddles because they really do give wonderful ones. Totally agree, such a stressful day all round, but I always try to remember we are on display to the public just for that day!!!

Thanks Rebanne too!!

Thanks all. My labs (all lean but stocky built) are around 32kg, they don't really like the gsp/vizsla type, whippets a contender but why when there are so many small rescue g/h's?!! (sorry whippet peeps). Bullies too many skin issues (both theirs had in the past). Cattle dogs a definate, but I'm thinking a grey thru a rescue organization so they will discuss with GAP!! Cheers:) :)

Secure home yard, moderate amount of training , labs pointers etc a bit big, most over 30kg?! Greyhounds are winning, going to give them rescue, Which rescue do we recommend ? Greyhound rescue or GAP? (hope it's ok to ask/)

Hi, trying to think of a suitable breed choice for family please. History- great pet owners, dog will be inside /outside, not much time home alone. 'Home' is a large cattle property, but don't want a 'working dog' , will be companion only. Hanging out with owners wife who is very keen gardener, out in ute with the boys, walking in the paddocks. Have previously had cattle dogs and bull terriers. Size- something not too small or large, 10-30kgish. Coat- must be short. Would be good to have a 'guard' bark , but not a yapper!! Thanks in advance for suggestions!!

Advise sticking away from "Aussie" bulldogs, I work in a surgical specialist hospital and we see way more "Aussies" than properly bred and registered ennglish bulldogs.

Brilliant dog and brilliant photo's! Thanks for sharing :D

I'd recommend booking het into a veterinary oncologist ASAP and follow their advice. It is not uncommon for many dogs to live a long and healthy life once under correct treatment for MCT...

Mention a salivary mucocual also, commonly come and go, surgery to remove curative.

Bless!!!! Thanks to you for not giving up on him!! xx

Ummmmm, you are not tying up a defenseless rabbit and allowing it to be torn apart alive
