  1. It is a great ET venue. Great scenic course around the lake. But my God it is COLD!!!! I enquired about entering their ET, but will not go. M
  2. That is a shame for the Sale club. Hardly seems worth the effort to put the trial on. Would not blame them for cancelling. Hopefully they will get a few more. M
  3. It will be a piece of cake for Lewis and for you! Enjoy it, and do your best, you will be fine! Good Luck! M
  4. Having fun is what it is all about (or at least it should be). Best of luck for the ET. Needless to say it will probably be very cold! Enjoy your dogs! M
  5. What a beautiful morning! Have just returned from a terrific bike ride. 38 kilometres in all. Clear skies and sun shining. How lucky are all the Dally Club ET'ers today. Perfect conditions for the test. Looking forward to hearing good news later in the day. M
  6. Great work Tassie, Much harder now in the cold weather. Which ET are you doing? M
  7. Thanks TrinaJ, that would be great. Best of luck again for tomorrow! M
  8. Hi TrinaJ, best of luck for the Dally Club ET to you and all entrants. Wishing you all great success. Please do contact the GSDCV as soon as possible if you are not going to do their ET as it would let someone else in. M
  9. It is so incredibly cold at the moment. Remember when doing the ET to dress warmly with layers of clothing that you can discard as your body temperature rises with the running/cycling. Also remember to rug up again once you finish. Cold weather expected again here in Melbourne this weekend. Good luck to all doing the Dalmatian Club ET. Stay warm. Best of luck also to those competing in the west! M
  10. Hi All, If what I am told is correct, there will not be a ballot for the GSDCV Endurance Test. All entrants are in! Well done to all who entered and good luck! M
  11. Hi, you could also teach the stand for exam exercise with you standing beside the dog first, rather than leaving him/her. This will give the dog some confidence in knowing he/she is going to be touched by the judge at the same time as having the confidence in knowing you are standing right beside him/her. Then, as the dog gets used to it, you can start moving further away from the dog until you can complete the exercise at a lead's length. M
  12. 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) Owner/breeder/exhibitor of Hungarian Vizslas since 1993. Have bred Vizslas exclusively and have sent puppies and dogs to homes in all Australian States and Territories, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and Hong Kong. Have imported from the USA and Canada. 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? The breed's origins can be traced back as far as the 1400's where it was a hunting dog bred and used exclusively by the Hungarian nobility. 3. How common is it in Australia? Growing in identity and popularity very quickly. 4. What is the average lifespan? 12-15 years 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Outstanding. The perfect family companion and working dog. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? They are an active breed, both physically and mentally. Added they have a definite need for companionship. They are demanding of time and activity and a good balance is required. A good long walk and a run at the park or beach daily would be ideal. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Yes and No. It is important to speak to breeders about this breed and it's demands, personality, energy and requirements. This breed is not for everyone. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Not always. Very active, both mentally and physically. Best suited to a home where there is some companionship during the day to break the dog's boredom. 9. How much grooming is required? Surprisingly, very little. A good brushing 2-3 times a week is recommended. They do not need regular baths and are generally a very clean breed. 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? All breeds of dog need training and if trained well will be perfect around children, the aged and infirm. 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? It is important to note that the ailments affecting vizslas are no more prevalent in vizslas than in other breeds of dogs. Hip dysplasia, Epilepsy/seizure are examples of some of these. 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) Most importantly, "Can I buy this dog without a contract or breeder's terms?" If the answer is "No", find another breeder that says "Yes". Contracts and breeders terms in my opinion are recipes for acrimony and dispute. Health tests are important. As a minimum, ask about hip scores on breeding parents. The current breed average score for Vizslas is 11.97 under the AVA system. A good score is one that is LESS than 11.97. Thelower the score, the better the result. With the PennHip scoring system, 90th percentile and above can be considered excellent.
  13. Probably an idea. At least you know you have done the right thing. M
  14. YOu need to specify??? I didn't and didn't for the last one I did either??? Hi NME hope to see you there. I will have a Whippet Generally, the clubs need you to specify whether you are jogging or cycling. When preparing the catalogue, the runners are always put together at the head of the line, the cyclists after. M
  15. Good luck for the ballot Sir Sniffalot. Check with the secretary a few days before entries close to ensure yours has been received. Canberra is a great course too, and a really great team of people running it. M
  16. Hi N.M.E. Welcome to the ET thread. Wishing you best of luck for the ET in Perth. Fantastic that you want to run the 20k's. I always admire that in a competitor. To answer your question, yes, you can have a bike as a back up, and you can have additional handlers lined up to help with the run/cycle. Most courses do run on a circuit. Start and Finish points are the same, so that would make a change from jogging to cycling, or a handler change very easy. It is perfectly allowable. M
  17. Hi murve, Malika may/may not be ready for Sale. Give some thought to the Canberra ET in September. M
  18. Congratulations to TerraNik on her 2 passes in CCD, with her Finnish Lapphund. Thanks!! It was great to meet you! Well done on the two CCD passes TerraNik! Congratulations. M
  19. Oh No! Quite sure he will be fine by the time of the ET. You have 4 weeks to go. Rest him for a while, then when he is well again, start off slowly. I am quite sure he will recover quickly and will be fine for the ET. Good Luck! M
  20. Like the rest of us, i would consider you well and truly bitten! Glad you are all getting together for training. Makes it much easier. Unfortunately, the weather is getting colder, which makes the training harder, and not so inviting! Only a matter of time before you have ET's on all your dogs. Glad the breeders were happy too. I have two vizslas that I have not yet entered for ET's, (have gained an ET for 9 of them so far), will most likely get them their titles next year depending on judging assignments/dates, venues, and who is judging. M
  21. A cold morning here. A little icy, but no wind or rain. Nonetheless, I went out for a ride this morning. 37 k's in all! Hope everyone's training is progressing well. M
  22. Hi murve, not a silly question at all. Yes you do send it in to the VCA with original pedigree certificate and the application form which you can download from DogsVic website. You must also pay the appropriate fee. I think it is around $12.00. The Vizsla club will not do anything in this regards. It is all up to you and DogsVic. Well done again. M
