  1. It would be nice if they could. After reading the article I emailed them suggesting that they should be looking at setting up a no/minimal kill shelter with an aim to rehoming suitable pets. As yet I haven't heard back from them
  2. I don't get local news (on the VAST sattelite service) so I didn't see the coverage....and I think i might be glad if they showed the actual photos . those poor puppies. . If it is not illegal than it should be . I bet it is not the first time that it has happened though. It would be nice if they actually set up a prperley run pound and tried to rehome these animals.
  3. I was horrified and disgusted when I read my local paper this morning The local ranger had shot 11 dogs at the local Tip, during operating hours!! how is this ethical or moral http://www.gloucesteradvocate.com.au/news/local/news/general/dog-deaths-investigated/2612641.aspx THE RSPCA has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the euthanising of dogs by council staff at the Gloucester landfill last week. Council confirmed that on Wednesday and Thursday last week several dogs were taken to the tip where they were shot and then disposed of on the tip face. The Advocate was made aware of the incident after a resident complained to the paper. Stratford resident Keith Whittall said he was at the tip between 12.20pm and 2pm last Wednesday when the council ranger arrived at the facility with the dogs on the back of his vehicle. “He said he was taking the dogs down the back to shoot them,” he said. “He went down behind the rubbish pile and I heard the shots go off from where I was standing at the shed. “Then he threw the carcasses into the general waste.” Mr Whittall said it was a “cruel and inhumane” way to dispose of the animals and said he was particularly upset that the incident had occurred during regular tip operating hours. “I never want to see something like that happen again,” he said. “It made me feel physically sick. After I left the tip I went and got my daughter and took some pictures. “There were 11 dogs in total, five of them were pups.” Poor dogs.....10 dogs seeing exactly what their fate was going to be, this was such an inhumane act, and I am willing to bet it is not the first time, just the first time someone has reported it
  4. Thermomaster are great and they last.... my female had hers for 9 years The only thing I didn't like was with my male, the drop was too long, and he weed on it all the time .
  5. Check out the range from The Wolfs Den . My boy wears 2012 06 29_1136 by nicoledwyer22, on Flickr There are no zips or velcro and fits snuggly. This is the reversible coat. The polar fleece vests are good too
  6. I went to my first Gunnedah show a couple of weekends ago and had a fantastic time (with 2 kids and 2 dogs!! lol). We stayed at the gunnedah tourist caravan park in a cabin. In the same street is the Red chief Motel, and I have heard good reports about it as well. There were lots of other dog people at the caravan park.
  7. The secretary of the Gilgandra shows (14th and 15th July) has posted on Ozshow that entries are open for another week (I hope he doesn't mind that I have cross posted :) )
  8. I second the recommendation for canvas beds from Great Rugs . My boy ripped up all previous mats/beds prior to the Great Rug ones, the current ones are about 18-20 months old and still going strong :) :D Easy to wash and keep clean as well :)
  9. Update The kennels were excellent Still owned and runned by Wendy since 1994, and she owns Giant Schnauzers not Akitas :) A bit cool temp wise you would need to supply rugs a nd coats for the dogs in the cooler months but overall great
  10. We are heading along the Bucketts Way to Gloucester than north from there along Thunderbolts way through Walcha and Uralla til we hit the New England Highway :) . The last time we used these kennels in Armidale they were great. I think the owners back than owned Akita's??
  11. Hi everyone, As the title suggests I am wondering if anyone has used the boarding kennels on the northern side of Armidale recently? I boarded dogs there in the past but it would be at least 10 years ago. I need to board my RR boy as we need to go to Tenterfield (from the southern side of Gloucester) this coming weekend.. It will only be for one night. :)
  12. What a great idea. I am relativley still new to showing, but i think it would be something to try. I have 2 young kids and the few shows i take them too when the OH doesn't come too, it would provide alot of peace of mind too know that they were safe, and not causing any problems, whilst I was on the ring. I agree competitors would need to pay for the service so that it wasn't abused. :)
  13. RIP Ziva My thought are with you and the poor puppies owners. Hugs to you all
  14. Hi. Just a quick question about Nepean Shores Riverside Resort for anyone that has stayed there. I am looking at staying there in October for a specialty show. I don't own a dog trailer, and I will have 2 dogs with me. What is the acceptable place for the dogs to sleep? This will be the first time I sleep away for a dog show, so I am not sure of the protocols. Thank you :D
  15. Thanks Aziah and Poocow, I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and I was initially unsure about the OES entered in the show. Happy to say It was a very well run show, and I made it home to have lunch :) Hounds were all over by 10.30-10.45 :) (+ had time to take in a magic show with the OH and kids)
  16. If you are ever in Newcastle, some one told me that a shop called "the Pet Shop Boys" sells them, and I bought one in Feb, at the Maitland Show, from (i think) Mrs Glo?? Good luck with the Hunt :)
  17. Thanks Aziah, I will need to be on time then
  18. Hi can anyone tell me how many Old English Sheepdogs are entered at Stroud Show this Saturday? They are being judged separately to the rest of the working group, before hounds. :)
  19. You are not wrong! Ditto to that, It is nice to know that some people can be so giving of their time
  20. The JRxdachie is entire as well, but the owner was mortified that his dog has "christened" my foot, and was very apologetic, as well as giving me the advise to "boot" him, which i didn't (a, not my dog to punish while the owner is there, b, not into "booting" dogs, and c, too much time 30 secs plus had passed when the "advise" was given.) I was grossed out and concerned that my dog would than pee on me as well to cover the pee of the other dog.......very pleased and relieved to say that he didn't
  21. As the topic suggests I am wondering why some dogs pee on people? On easter Monday, we had just got home after a six hour drive, stopped the car at the gate, the neighbour comes over to say hi to OH, his JRxdachie comes over as well, i got out to say hi to the neighbour, after a minute or 2 his dog pees on my foot . Why do they do this?????
  22. There is a show at Stroud this Saturday. is any one from up north coming down early for that show? Stroud is only an hour from Newcastle. Good luck with finding someone to take them to newcastle. What sort of show is it??? It is an Agricultural show, with a dog show, over 400 entries, surely some one is coming from that way?????
