I think back yard breeders and puppy farmers are to blame for the high euthanasia rate. They sell the pups to anyone who has the money. They don't care if these owners will dump their dogs, as many invariably do. People who buy pedigree dogs from registered breeders are far less likely to dump their dogs so I can't see how registered breeders could be held responsible for the euthansia rate. Most registered breeders are particular about the people they allow to have one of their puppies. I've had many shelter dogs but have also always had well bred dogs from registered breeders. The two are not mutually exclusive. Edited to add: I didn't vote because if I couldn't get the breed I wanted from a registered breeder I would wait until I could.

Canine Arthritis And Fish Oil Dosages
cavNrott replied to dartuche's topic in General Dog Discussion
I give my 10.5kg Cavalier 1 wild salmon oil capsule a day. He gets a vitamin E capsule every second day. All my dogs are given glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM from pups and for life as a preventative. It seems to work quite well. dartuche it might be time to consider giving your boy pain relief meds on a daily basis. Arthritis is very painful and his limping is telling you he is in pain. I hold the belief that there is no need for a dog to suffer pain when pain relief is available. -
There's a big difference between a watch dog and a guard dog. A guard dog is trained to attack on command and must only be trained by an experienced professional. A watch dog will alert and bark like mad when an intruder comes on to the property but they are not personal protection dogs. From reading the posts I think what this thread is about is a watch dog.

I totally agree. The general consensus is that the parents are to blame for their rude children. It sure will come back to bite them and they won't thank their parents for not teaching them good manners and respectful behaviour. Edited to say: It's not my generation either that is to blame for neglecting to teach their children manners. My children are adults with their own babies and toddlers who I'm delighted to say at their very young ages are being taught manners by their parents.

Sounds reasonable to me. No one has the right to 'demand' a child give up their seat. However a well mannered child wouldn't wait to be asked. Children young enough to sit on mothers knee: in this case the decision is up to mother who would hopefully do exactly as you would do. Agree a rude arseholes don't deserve respect any more than a rude child does.
-
The able bodied who didn't offer you a seat were probably, as children, raised by people who think they are entitled to keep their seat irrespective of others in difficult circumstances.
-
Mums are usually open and forthcoming if their child is sick. Of course no one would want or expect a sick child to give up their seat.

Just because something doesn't matter to you doesn't mean it doesn't matter to someone else. I see a trend here.

Prescription Medication Online
cavNrott replied to truehorseaddict's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't think Advantix is a prescription item. You should be able to buy it online. I buy Sentinel Spectrum online without needing a script. -
Children do not have the same rights as adults. Children need to be taught manners and respect by their parents. They won't get too far in life without manners and respect. It is bad manners for children to be seated when adults are standing no matter how you shake it. It is also disrespectful to their elders but of course the kids don't know this because the parents haven't taught them. Are these the same parents who don't teach their children to say please or thank you? There seems to be plenty of that lack of courtesy around. I feel sorry for these kids who don't know any better. As an aside, I trust the parents who think children have as much right to a seat happily pay full price for their kids on public transport and in venues such as movie theaters etc., and would not expect or accept concession prices. If children had the same rights as adults there would be no age restriction on drinking alcohol in licensed premises or obtaining a driving license. No need to rate movies. This of course has nothing to do with the fact that children have the right to be taught good manners and respect for other people. Kids don't know enough to have the same rights as adults. Children have the right to be taught respect and good manners. They don't know how to behave unless they're taught. My children who are now adults thank me for teaching them manners. They know how to conduct themselves and are at ease in any given situation without being an embarrassment to themselves or anyone else due to lack of manners and respect.

The Problem With Fake Service Dogs
cavNrott replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Google italian greyhound service dog... Thanks. A couple of people have pm'd me the info. After seeing a large pic of said person that nearly blinded me it's all probably more than I ever needed to know. -
No, I don't accept the dare. My stomach just flipped at the very sight of your rattie.
-
Amen to this ^. Sad isn't it. These children who grow up with no idea how to behave and who have no manners will be excluded from many situations as they mature.
-
Children should be taught to give up their seat for an adult. It's simply common courtesy. I feel sorry for children who grow up without being taught manners and common courtesy but it does explain the way some children behave on public transport and in shopping centres. I guess your children will not be taught to stand for the elderly or a pregnant woman on public transport. Will you teach them that it's quite ok to take up two seats in a crowded bus/tram while adults stand? One seat for themselves and one for their bag and to put their feet on? My son joined the reserves in the Army. The reserves were required to dine with the officers from time to time. My son said it was sad how many of the younger reserves had absolutely no table manners or even any common courtesy. They had no idea how to behave in a certain formal situation. He thanked me for teaching him table etiquette and general good manners as he felt at ease in any company and in any situation. Good manners, respect for those older than ourselves and common courtesy will never go out of fashion or be thought of as 'older' thinking. It is up to parents to arm their children with good manners, it serves them well as they mature into adults.

Not lots of assumptions that the ACD is causing the fights but it doesn't matter which dog is causing the fights, they will both fight if they get the chance. We are saying to return the ACD because it is the most recent addition to the home and the OP mentioned returning or rehoming the ACD. Edited to change a word.
-
I agree please return the ACD to the RSPCA. These two dogs will continue to fight given the opportunity.

The Problem With Fake Service Dogs
cavNrott replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Who is this person? Where is her website? Please someone put me out of my misery and pm me her website addy. -
Ermm NO. I would not get anywhere near her little paws. I don't even want to think about rats paws. Do rats have paws? Is that what their feet are called?
-
Good to hear you will stop the kibble and feed raw BARF. I wouldn't feed raw and kibble together. Raw food digests fairly quick whereas kibble digest slowly. I guess it's ok to feed kibble for one meal and raw for another meal, I just wouldn't feed them together. I hope you have success with relieving the itchies by taking her off the kibble.

The Problem With Fake Service Dogs

I too would appreciate it if someone could pm me the website. -
If most of your dogs are getting these lumps and bumps in the mouth I would be checking if anything environmental is causing it. Perhaps plastic food/water bowls. I've had a number of dogs including a few rescue Rotties who were in very poor condition but have never had a dog with a lump on it's lip like this. My Rottie girl who developed cancer had a lump on her gum, which was seen to by a vet when it was simply inflammation and well before it developed into a lump. I did have a rescue Rott who had some acne on the outside of his lower lip or better described as his chin. The red lumps were tiny. I took him to a vet who prescribed antibiotics which cleared it up quickly. I am of the opinion, due to my experience, that nothing good ever grows in a dogs mouth except teeth. Hopefully the lump on the lovely GR's mouth at all to be concerned about but I would still have a vet check it.

That sight would probably have me running to the next suburb, let alone running across the road. T's Rat would certainly have me crossing the road with undue haste.
-
As someone who has lost a much loved dog to oral cancer I don't consider a vet visit to be an absolute waste of money when something foreign is discovered in a dog's mouth. It well may be something totally innocent but I would rather be reassured by a vet that this is so. You have no way of knowing this bump is exactly the same as your dog had. Even a vet would not diagnose over the internet. BTW I didn't say it should be healed in a couple of days, I said meaning if there is no change for the better.Edited to fix the quote thing.
