  1. Yes, an update please DR. I've also been wondering how the handsome Bison has been doing.
  2. Yes, we were all very happy about the pooping. Only a dog owner would understand anyone getting excited about dog poop He and his nurses will demonstrate and then take you through the physio part of it. Don't worry, they'll make sure you know how to do it the right way.
  3. I share your feelings. When I was able to take the older Rotties the situation was the same. Nothing has changed. It's so sad isn't it? It's unfortunately impossible for me to take her, as much as I would like to. I can't walk more than a few steps with my back injury. I know AAPS will take good care of her but she would be so much better in a home environment.
  4. It was terrifying, I had no idea what happened. I was in such a hurry to get him to the vet that I didn't realise until half way though the vet consult that I was still wearing my PJ's. No one noticed, we were all concerned about my little Cavalier. If your pup needs a total hip replacement you can feel confident you've got the right man for the job. He's a nice man Bianca. My boy came home from hospital on the morning of day 4. Pete called me on night 3 about 9.30pm. He was excited because he had my boy outside and wanted me to know that he'd just passed some faeces. That was a big deal because it meant that the messages from the brain were getting through to his back end. Successful surgery! I was told I'd probably have to manually express his bladder for a day or two but on the first day he came home he wobbled outside with me in tow and he peed on his own. I kept him crated for most of the time, and Pete taught me how to do the physio myself. I wish you the very best of luck with your pup. If your pup isn't crate trained, now would be a good time to do it. It will make everything so much easier for you all.
  5. [quote name='smisch' timestamp='1349217587' post='5974108' If you want sentinel samples cheap pm me I currently have like 30 packs of it as I'm involved in some program thingy.. have a number of single packs up for grabs. May be worth trying before buying a full pack but I'm pretty sure if I read it properly you have to have no fleas to start with. It manages cycles not kills them as in prevents new onews arriving.. I'm still awaiting the arrival of the Sentinal Spectrum. No sign of it yet.
  6. Have you tried AAPS in Keysborough. They frequently take the older Rotties and they're a wonderful caring group. I've taken a few of their older Rotts over the years. Under normal circumstances I would take her but unfortunately I have a badly injured back and am unable to walk more than a few steps so I'm not a suitable carer. I feel useless knowing she needs someone and I can't help. I feel sure AAPS will help if they have room for her. Blue Cross often helps Rotties too.
  7. I agree. Pete Laverty performed the spinal surgery on my Cavalier. Today you would never know anything had ever happened to him. He walks, runs and plays normally. I have utmost confidence in Pete Laverty. I am so happy to read this as my boy has an appointment with Pete in a month and also with Ray Ferguson for severe Hip Dysplasia. Pete Laverty is brilliant. My boy was paralysed from the shoulders down. He ran out the back door for his early morning pee and fell in a sceaming heap for no apparent reason. I took him to the vet immediately and asked for a referral to Pete who saw him right away. He gave me reasonably good odds that surgery would help my boy walk and suggested an immediate myelogram. He called me whilst my boy was still under general anaesthetic and said the disk had ruptured and was pressing on the spinal cord so no messages were getting from the brain beyond the area of the rupture. He suggested immediate surgery while my boy was still under GA and of course I agreed. This was neary 4 years ago now and my boy was doing a wobbly walk within 2 days. Pete gave me instructions on how to care for my dog and I took him to see Pete every couple of days for the first couple of weeks. There has been no deterioration at all since the surgery and he's perfectly normal in every way. Pete is a very skilled surgeon and you can feel very confident he will do right by your boy. Best of luck with your dog.

  9. That's who I'm with and I stress that you should scan and copy all documents you send them and always use registered post. You don't want them suggesting they didn't receive your claim. When I started with them their policy fees where inexpensive but they go up every year. They've increased by 162% in the three years I've been with them. The 3rd year renewal of the policy just started in September. Their first claim took 3 months for them to reimburse me. My dog had never had a sick day in his life when I took out his policy he had only his vaccination and neuter records. When I made a claim for him they kept insisting I get all vets who had ever treated him to send them his records. I eventually lost my cool and asked did they want me to try find a vet to fraudulently fabricate a record of illness that didn't exist because my vet would not commit fraud to satisfy them. My dog was 5 years old when I made the first claim so I guess they thought it unlikely he'd never been to a vet for an illness. Eventually I called to tell them I was about to contact the Ombudsman. Within 2 days they paid out half of the claim and after another call by me mentioning the ombudsman a few weeks later they paid the balance of the claim. Admittedly it was a large claim for spinal surgery. I suspect they contacted vets in the area to see if my dog was known to them. I gave them my authority to contact any vet they care to.. Maybe that's why it took them so long to pay up. Since then they've been good to deal with. No delay in paying out claims and no hassles with them but the fees increase every year by a large percentage.
  10. I scan and keep a copy of every document I send in with a claim to my pet insurance company. I'm not with Pet Plan but I've heard the old "we don't have your claim" before. Last time they told me they hadn't received my claim I tol them how strange I thought that was because I had a signed receipt proving my registed mail had been received by their company. I was put on hold for a minute or two in which time they miraculously found they did indeed have my claim and I received reimbursement a couple of days later. Always send your claims in by registered mail. It short cuts their denials of having received the claim.
  11. No ticks here and we use Sentinel Spectrum. It's a flea contraceptive so if the dogs pick up a hitchhiker flea ot two they can't breed and infest the house and none of the dogs have ever had worms or fleas. Very happy with this product.
  12. This warrants a vet visit. She could have had a petit mal seizure.
  13. I/D is a different product to L/D. Call your vet Jans to find out if there is a suitable alternative to L/D
  14. Sentinel is a great product. I've been using it for many years and none of my now senior dogs have ever had fleas or worms.
  15. Hesa I am so very very sorry your special boy had to leave. His spirit is with you forever. You love him beyond words and death can never take that from you. Love transcends death. I will light a white candle for Bear now. My Sophie is at the Bridge, she's with him. Bear is in good company. Bear you had a wonderful life with your loving owner. Bless her for loving you the way you deserved to be loved. Blessings to you Hesa at this very painful and difficult time for you
  16. I have a few combs with rotating teeth that pull the undercoat out without damaging the coat. They don't pull on the coat. One of my combs has fine close together rotating teeth and the others have various, wider rotating teeth width. I use the wider ones first and finish with the fine rotating teeth comb then a good brush through. Rosiesmum would you mind editing the title of your post heading to show the correct breed of the dog please. ***Cavalier King Charles Spaniel*** I'm another who really dislikes seeing the incorrect the name of the breed. The King Charles Spaniel is a different breed from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
  17. and the first time wasn't warning enough to take precautions so that it didn't happen again Agree with this 100%. You say it's only happened 3 times Please secure your property before your dog gets hit by a car. How lucky you are that a very kind person took the time to call you when they found your dog.
  18. My dogs are all crate trained but the doors of the crates are never closed so they can go in whenever they wish. Crate training makes it easy if the dog needs to stay at the vet or is in need of rehab after surgery or illness. I don't see any good reason for shutting a well behaved dog in a crate. Buy a crate and leave the door open since he sounds like a well behaved dog that doesn't need to be shut in a crate. I crate trained my pups by feeding all their meals in their crates, with the door open. Now they run to their crates and wait patiently when they see me preparing their meals.
  19. One of my Cavaliers used to reverse sneeze but he seems to have grown out of the problem. I used to put my finger in his mouth and gently depress the back of his tongue, that would stop it instantly.
  20. Yes, we are all busy with a life, if indeed you are suggesting no one here has a life. However our dogs are a very large part of our lives and being responsible dog owners we strive to understand dog behaviour. We teach commands and proof them so that we can call our dogs off from a situation we see as undesirable. Perhaps take a few minutes out of your busy life and read the training forum. It may give you a better understanding of dogs and why they do what they do and how to prevent certain behaviours we don't want them to do. This forum really is a give and take forum. We take the time to ask questions in the hope that someone is interested enough to reply to them. Then we repay the compliment by attempting to assist others when we read their questions.
  21. I think maybe plaque off is just a fancy marketing ($$$) name for THIS kelp powder - afterall athe ingredients are the same - ie both are 100% ascophyllum nodosum. I hope it is the same stuff. It would be a great saving for many of us.
  22. I get a 10% reduction for the second dog but they raise the premiums ever year anyway. I'm now paying $75.00 a month for 2 dogs. I think the reduction for the second dog is all smoke and mirrors.
  23. I think that's kelp powder, not the same thing as PlaqueOff. I'd be very interested to know though. When my Rottie was a pup she used to get kelp powder in her home made BARF diet but the breeder didn't mention anything about it keeping teeth clean and gums healthy.
  24. There is no way I could get close enough to a spider to take such intricate photos of one. Daddy Longlegs don't scare me but any other spiders Especially chunky ones like those pics. Huntsmen are fugly too, I can't stay in my house if a Huntsman is in residence, someone has to displace it.
  25. I donated a plastic bag full of bottles and packets of medication to the vet after Sophie passed on too.
