  1. Mumscats, has your girl been seen by an oncologist. If not I would ask your vet for a referral. Oncologists know a lot more about cancer and are up to date with the most recent treatments and medications. Far more so than our regular vets. My dog was still eating, drinking and was playful most of the time too but I knew her oral cancer was painful. In her last few days I could see by her facial expressions when she was sleeping that the cancer was causing pain. Overnight she developed a huge enlarged lymph gland so I knew the cancer was spreading. I had her put to sleep two days later. My philosophy has always been that I'd rather be a day early than a day late and cause my dog to suffer needlesly for an extra day. It was the most difficult and painful thing I've ever had to do in my life. Would you mind telling us if your dog's oral cancer is a melanoma or a malignant lump on her gum.
  2. Mumscats, there are some excellent sites for cancer dogs. Suggest you join the Yahoo Avemar group. I credit Avemar for etending my girl's lifespan for much longer than expected by her oncologist. (Staffyluv, bless you for thinking of us. Still miss my girl every day)
  3. I'm very sorry for the loss of your boy Merna. Godspeed Rocky
  4. Mumscats. In the palliative care forum there is a thread called 'Unwell Rottweilers'. In that thread I posted about my Rottweiler 'Sophie' and her journey with oral cancer. We tried many and various supplements to keep her feeling well. She did well for a year after her initial diagnosis. What type of cancer has your girl been diagnosed with? My girl had Osteosarcoma of the gum. Most of the oral cancers in dogs I researched at the time were melanomas. I wish you well and please keep us posted about your girl.
  5. I'm still using the Proden product every day Oonga. The dogs had their teeth checked last Tuesday and they're perfect
  6. Poor Mandela and poor you Erny. The poor boy has had a run of problems hasn't he. He's a very lucky dog to have you as his owner.
  7. Please post the name and location of the good dermatologist on here. It's not against forum rules and will give us a heads up.
  8. How lucky little Taz was to have found you Jane. You cared for her with a love she had never known Rest In Peace little Taz
  9. Our local pet shop in Mount Waverley Vic. sells Black Hawk too. They have a fully stocked shelf. Edited to say they don't sell any live animals in the shop.
  10. My vet and I haven't discuss my dogs diet for many years. A few years ago wanted me to change from raw feeding to dry and I told him the issue was non negotiable. The subject was dropped and never raised again until very recently when he asked me for my recipe. He said he wanted it for one of his clients who was keen to feed raw. He's always happy with the condition of my dogs and it seems he's had a change of heart re raw feeding. He's interested in the supplements I use and also that the Cavaliers who are now older dogs have very good teeth and have never needed a dental. When he examined their mouths he mumbled about it being unusual for the breed that the almost 8yo and the 6 1/2yo Cavalier both have excellent teeth. Maybe I'm winning him over ;) edited to remove a word that made no sense.
  11. I hope Chucky is recovering well from his surgery. Good that you reported this to the ranger. You probably have saved other innocent dogs from being attacked by this dog. I would not be at all surprised if the IGA staff know who the owner is. He's probably a regular customer. I hope they got this on camera. He must pay your vet bill on principle. It's his responsibility. What a coward for running off and not giving you his details. Hopefully the ranger will read him the riot act and inform him he's responsible for the vet bill. You have enough to worry about with your little dog and his physical and mental recovery, you shouldn't be stuck with the vet bill as well. Please let us know how Chucky is doing.
  12. I have two Cavaliers and they are inside with me all the time. They have access to the yard but spend very little time out there unless I'm out with them. They go out to toilet and usually come right back inside unless the neighbours cat is on the roof. That entertains them for 10 minutes or so. I agree with Gretel. Cavs are happiest when they're with their people and I'm happiest when I can see what they're up to. If they stay outside for more than a few minutes I go out to check on them and make sure all is well.
  13. My Cavalier girl has a microchip that encapsulated into a hard disk like lump about 6 months after implantation. The vet hadn't seen this happen before and we decided we should wait and see how it panned out. If the lump grew any bigger or presented any problems the vet was going to remove it but in time it disappeared.
  14. My Cavs regularly get yeasty ears. You can't mistake the smell of yeast. I'm one who lifts the ears and has a sniff about every second day. Yeast is easier to get rid of if you get it at the beginning of the infection. I keep drops here at all times.
  15. Add me to the list of those confused. The OP said she had the Staffy for less than one week and the breeder took him back
  16. I won't be buying anything from Pookinuk again either. My last order took ages to arrive, one item was missing without any explanation and I was overcharged for postage. Eventually I was able to contact them and I cancelled the missing item and requested they refund the money and also the extra postage. This did happen a few weeks later.
  17. I don't think you ever get over it. It's now 3 years and 4 months since I lost Sophie after her battle with cancer. I think of her and miss her every day. I couldn't watch that video. When I think of Sophie's last minutes I still feel the sting of tears. Death can't take my love for her away from me though. Losing her was a life changing event for me. R.I.P Oden
  18. Take her to the vet please. My 14yo Rottweiler had 2 bad teeth extracted without any problems. My 6yo Rottweiler I noticed was chewing only on the right side of her mouth. Her gum was only very slightly inflamed. I took her to the vet because the chewing on one side only was recent. As it turned out she had oral cancer and I lost her after 12 months of treatment by an oncologist.
  19. So sorry to read of your loss Flaves.
  20. It's only 40g. Wow! They're exy alright. I won't be buying from them, when I need more I'll buy from the same seller as last time. My 180gm for about $50 included postage too. Just examined both dogs teeth and they're perfect. No sign of plaque or tartar, sparkly white. I think the Proden is much better than the one I was putting in their water.
  21. Does anyone know which size the Troy PlaqueOff is seling for $39.99 please. I can't find the size listed anywhere. If it's a the 60gm size it's a bit exy. I bought the 180gm for around $50 from the UK.
  22. The old Sentinel didn't cover tapeworm but Sentinel Spectrum does cover it. I think that vet needs to familiarise himself with the products he sells.
  23. You really need to see a specialist for this. The oncologist who treated my dog was at the Specialst Referral Centre in Glen Waverley. You need to know if this tumour is benign or malignant. Without knowing what it is you can't treat it by dietary or any other means. My cancer dog was on a high protein, high fat diet with no carbs and no sugar. She outlived her grim prognosis for a year. She was in good spirits and actually put on weight on that diet.
  24. Both my Cavalier puppies were scooting when I first brought them home and needed their anal glands expressed at their first vet check. One needed them done again a month later. I started putting psyllium husks in with their dinner each night and they've never needed their glands expressed again. They probably don't need the psyllium now but I still use it. Force of habit I guess. Edited to say neither of them had worms when I brought them home. It was just the anal glands.
  25. Throw an egg in the blender, shell and all and the fruit and veg will be reduced to a fine pulp. That's how I pulp fruit and vegs for the dogs. If it's still a bit chunky, add a little water or stock.
