Jodie I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. What a shock that must have been for you all. Please accept my sincere condolences. As for Ollie, he's an amazing little fella. He won't give up until he's good and ready and it doesn't sound as though he's anywhere near ready yet. I often think about you and Ollie and have been wondering how you both are. He's a true hero, that little boy.

I was wondering the same thing.

I took my elderly Rottweiler to a canine opthalmologist after many attempts by the vet at healing her ulcer with daily eye meds failed. He then gave her a GA for a grid keratotomy which also failed to heal the ulcer. We were referred to the ophthalmologist who debrided the cornea and also did a grid keratotomy. She was not anaesthetised, just had local anaesthetic drops in her eye. Her eye wasn't stitched closed, instead he popped a contact lense in and 8 days later at our post op check she had completely healed. Faith was a very calm dog. Had she been a nervous dog he probably would have needed to heavily sedate her or even give her a GA but with her calm nature it wasn't necessary.

Anybody Have Any Experience With Bulging Discs?
cavNrott replied to cavvysavvy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a Cavalier who ruptured a disk and was paralysed from the shoulders down. He had a myelogram to pinpoint the area of spinal cord compression and went into surgery while he was still under GA for the myelogram. The surgery was done within 24 hours of the disk rupture and he's now running and playing normally. He was diagnosed with IVDD when this happened almost 2 years ago and hasn't had any problems since then. -
So sory to hear of Jake's passing Rest In Peace beautiful boy.

Trina if you still have my email addy would you mind emailing me a copy of the flier. If you don't have it shoot me a pm. I'll print out some copies and take them to all vets in mine and surrounding suburbs. Will also pin them on notice boards in shopping centres. One of my sons works with a transport company who cover most of Victoria and he's happy to distribute the flyers in outlying areas and drop them into vets.

Glad to hear Tara is recovering well and appears not to be suffering any discomfort.
-
OK then. I'll see if one of the shelters here wants them.

I still have a pink large Breed Bans Punish the Wrong End of the Leash and a navy blue one to fit a small dog. My Rottie passed away before she had the chance to wear it and my Cavalier grew too big to wear his so both have never been worn if anyone is interested in them. EFS

I used a Halti on my young Rottweiler and was able to succesfully transition her to a Martingale collar after a few months. I am 4 ft 10" and of light frame and she weighed a little more than I did. The Halti allowed me to gain control where I had none before using it. I am not a novice at managing large dogs, having trained a couple of GSD's and a Rottweiler before this girl but you can't train a dog if you have no control, especially when the dog is heavier and stronger than you. This dog was a dedicated puller, the likes of which I hadn't seen before. We spent a few months using the Halti which gave me enough control to teach her to walk well without pulling. We were not back to square one when I transitioned to the Martingale because by that time she had learned commands and obeyed them so the transition was relatively easy. I understand had I not taught her commands and just used the Halti to make it easier for me to walk her we would not have progressed to the Martingale.

Anthium Dioxide was the second ingredient in liquid Plaque off, not the main, but it's academic as the product no longer contains this ingredient. Anthium Dioxide is an oxygenating agent found in toothpaste, soft drinks and fruit juices. Sodium Benzoate is found naturally in apples, cranberries, plums and in such spices as cloves and cinnamon. Such a tiny amount of the liquid Plaque Off is added to the water, just a few drops really, I doubt there would be any health issues. It's the last ingredient in the liquid Plaque Off. Black Hawk sounds to be a good quality dog food for those who feed kibble. I feed a raw diet with raw meaty bones (which is probably why the dogs have good teeth). If I did feed dry food I couldn't feed Black Hawk because I have a dog with Pancreatitis and the fat content of Black Hawk is 14%. This is too high for a Pancreatitis dog. My older dog is also inclined to put on weight so again I can't feed a diet with a high fat content. Yes, there are two types of Plaque Off, as has been discussed in this thread. The Prodent one sounds good, being a seaweed product. This is the one that's causing customs to give people grief with importation. When it becomes readily available in Australia I will probably change over to that product. The liquid product is manufactured by the Benedent Corporation in Texas USA and marketed here under the Triple-Pet banner. Oakway, are there any additional ingredients in the Prodent Product. If so, would you be kind enough to list them for us. Thanks.
-
It's manufactured in the USA. I'm happy with the product. Cavaliers usually need dentals every couple of years. My boy is 7 1/2yo and my girl is 6yo. Neither have ever needed a dental and their teeth are good. They had a health and dental check up 4 weeks ago

I just bought a new bottle of the liquid Plaque Off and they've apparently deleted the Anthium Dioxide from the ingredients. The following ingredients are the only ones listed on the bottle. Purified filtered water. Yucca Schidigera. Mint oil. Sodium Benzoate.

When I lost my beloved Sophie, she was privately cremated. I'm sure she had a private cremation because the cremation people called to tell me they had the titanium plates and screws that were in Sophie's knees from her ligament surgery. They asked if I wanted them returned with her ashes. They had no prior knowledge of the plates in her knees. Her ashes rest on a small table in my bedroom beside my lovely rescue girl Faith's ashes. I have the ashes of all my dogs. I can't bring myself to scatter them.

My two Cavaliers have Psyllium husks every night in their food and have done for years. No negative consequences and anal glands are fine.

I always thought Metronidazole was the preferred antibiotic for Giardia. Luckily none of my dogs has ever had it. Faith was tested for it but she was negative. We put her on Metronidizole anyway because there was something going on that wasn't showing up in the path results.

Have done some research on the ingredients of the liquid Plaque off I use. Purified filered water - Yucca Shidera - Mint oil are all self explanatory. I wanted to know what the following ingredients consist of:- Anthium Dioxide: is an oxygenating agent contained in many fruit juices, drinks and toothpaste. Sodium Benzoate: is a type of salt that kills bacteria, yeast and fungus. It's found naturally in apples, plums, cranberries and spices such as cloves and cinnamon. The above 5 are the only ingredients in the product I use and are human grade. I checked the product I use with my vet before I started adding to the dogs drinking water. Vet said there was nothing harmful in the ingredients and was interested to see if it worked. A couple years down the track we're both happy with it. The dogs teeth were fine when we started using it though. Raw meaty bones keeps them fairly clean. We were speaking about both products yesterday and he said to stay with the product I'm using as there are no issues that could possibly arise from the iodine in the other product if animals have existing thyroid problems, though he doubts it would be an issue. My dogs don't have thyroid issues but he basically said "If it ain't broke etc.," So there we have it. I'll be interested to hear how the other Plaque Off product works once you all trial it.

This heat blanket is free to a good home and still available to anyone who wants it. I checked it and it's the one I've never used. It would need to be picked up from Mt Waverley, Vic. See above post for a pic of the blanket.
