How Do I Get Trixie To Take Her Tablets
cavNrott replied to ruthless's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Try rolling the tablets in Philly cheese or pate. -
Here's the ingredient list in the Triple Pet liquid Plaque Off. It works for us as Cavaliers are renowned for having bad teeth and both my 6yo and 7yo dogs have clean teeth and have never needed a dental. Purified filtered water. Anthium Dioxide Yucca Schidera Mint Oil Sodium Benzoate It claims to produce results in 48 hours. It's an odourless, tasteless liquid added to their drinking water. I buy it at My Pets Warehouse for $22.95 for a 237ml bottle. It's manufactured by Benedent Corporation in Texas USA. Marketed here by Triple Pet. There are a few My Pet Warehouses in the 'burbs in Melbourne. I have a dog with pancreatitis so I need to be careful with what she ingests. This product has caused no issues. It's not a seaweed product like the other one that isn't yet avaialble here. I believe the seaweed product comes in granules added to the dog's food.

There is a Plaque Off availabe in Australia. It's made by Triple Pet. Most of the large pet stores carry it. I've been putting it in my dog's water for ages. My Cavaliers are 6 and 7 years old and have never needed a dental. They had a vet check 2 days ago and both dogs still have clean teeth. ETA: I just looked at the bottle and it's made in USA.

I was wondering too. No news for quite some time now. I wonder if it's still going ahead.

What a pity Mr. Samway didn't research the modus operandi of this place he thought was deserving of his legacy. I suppose he thought the $3M would help the lost and abandoned animals. Wasn't the last $1M plus, donation they received used to purchase a property across the street which was refurbished into modern comfortable climate controlled office premises for Graeme Smith and staff? This, while the dogs are freezing in winter and boiling in summer.

I have this one I'm happy to give you if you think it's suitable. I have 2 of them and need only one. I don't think I've ever used it, or maybe once. They don't have a thermostat as they stay just nicely warm. I just lay them flat on top of a dog bed.

Maybe post your question in the Rotty Owners thread. The breeders in there will have some good advice for you.

Wishing a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ollie the wonder dog.

S'ok Gretel. It wasn't an expectation in either my Rottweiler or my Cavalier. I was relating my actual experience of what took place with both breeds and both were on the main register. My little main reg. Cav had a perfect bite at 4 months and an underbite at 2 years. She is 6yo now and the underbite is as it was when she was 2yo. As Pebbles said, you learn something every day.
-
I buy from them too and have always found them to be very helpful and their customer service is great.

One of my Cavaliers had a perfect scissor bite at 8 weeks and his mouth is great at 7yo. My Cav girl had a scissor bite at 4 months and she was undershot at 2yo. by a small margin. Their teeth are nice and clean and they've never needed a dental. This is how it worked out with my Rottweiler. A perfect scissor bite became a level bite and went on to be undershot. It does no harm to read about mouths in other breeds. There's no need for abrupt comments, thanks.

Sentinel Spectrum here. Dogs have been on it for years and they've never had fleas or worms. It's easy to administed the chew once a month.

Dana Cavalier's intestinal blockage cost me $3500. Her recovery wasn't straight forward because she kept dropping temp and going into shock. She was in hospital for 4 days. We could feel the 2 loquat seeds in her intestines on palpation.

I have never bred a dog of any breed and never will. I leave the breeding to the experts. I know more about Rottweilers than Cavs I wonder how undershot mouths correct when the bottom jaw is the last to grow. If the bottom teeth are already undershot with Rotties they usually stay undershot. It they're overshot it often corrects as the bottom jaw grows. Just so we are all on the same page. Overshot is when the top teeth overlap in front of the top teeth (by a larger margin than a scissor bite) and undershot is when the bottom teeth overlap and are in front of the top ones. Are we in agreement?
-
As the bottom jaw is the last to grow an undershot bite doesn't usually improve. If she was overshot she probably would end up with a nice scissor bite but I don't think this will improve. It's more likely to end up a bit more undershot that she is at present. One of my Cavs is undershot too and she was supposed to be a show quality pup.

tlc Sorry,I can't remember where I got the Cowboy Magic. I bought the large bottle years ago and also bought their Silver Highlight shampoo for a bright white contrast on my Tri Cav. I think I had it sent over from USA way back then. It's still great after all these years. I remember it was expensive. It's well worth the cost because you need to use such a tiny amount of it. One bottle will last you for years.

I Have Lost My Beloved Sparty And Kira ;ast Year
cavNrott replied to Sparty's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Same here. It will be 3 years in September since I lost Sophie and I still have her pic as my avatar. She was my special girl. She's always on my mind and she will always be my avatar. -
I have 2 Cavaliers and one of them matts up behind the ears if I'm not vigilant. I use a comb with rotating teeth. It's more gentle on the dogs if you come across a small matt. I also use a product called Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine. I use this as a preventative and it works a charm. After I bath the dogs I work the Cowboy Magic into the ears, under them and behind them, plus any other area that tends to matt such as the feathers on the hind legs and thoroughly brush the product into the hair. They rarely have any matts since I've been using this product. I only brush and comb every 3-4 days instead of daily. With the Cowboy Magic if you massage it into a matt and brush it, you can untangle it usually without the need to cut it out. if it doesn't untangle easily, out come the scissors. They have so much hair that I can't see where the matt was anyway after it's been cut out.

It seems the contact lens does a good job of protecting the eye. The specialist performed a corneal debridement and a grid keratotomy before placing the contact lense in. If I recall she did need antibiotic drops for a few days after her post op check up. It was all good from then on.
-
I second the suggestion of a referral to a canine eye specialist. My vet fiddled around with Faith's eye for 6 weeks. He even put her under a GA and did his version of a grid keratotomy all to no avail. I was taking her to see him at least once a week and I was putting drops in every day that were stinging the poor old girl's eye. All up the vets fees were $1780 with nil result. I don't think vets know much about eyes, much the same as GP's. Eventually the vet referred us to a specialist after I said I wasn't happy about putting my elderly dog though all this and getting nowhere. Specialist had one look and said yep, he can fix that and fix it he did. I took her there the morning after the initial consult and she was done without the need for a GA and I picked her up 1 1/2 hours later. She had a contact lens in to protect the eye in 10 days at her post op check everything had healed perfectly and we had no further problems. His fee was about $780 all up.

I was at the RSPCA one day and was talking to an overseas student who was there to adopt a dog. I asked him how long he would be in Australia. He said he was here for 3 years and had 2 left to go before he returned home. I asked him what would happen to the dog when he was due to return home. He replied he would return it to the RSPCA. We were having a friendly discussion and I mentioned with as much tact as I could muster that it wasn't really fair to the dog and that it may never have another chance of being rehomed because returned dogs are often PTS without a second chance. I also mentioned someone else may come along for that dog who would give it a permanent home. He was a nice chap and said he had no idea that happened. He was under the impression that all dogs surrendered to the RSPCA were put up for adoption. I managed to talk him out of adopting. This nice young man then said he would offer his services as a volunteer dog walker for the RSPCA. I pointed him in the direction of a few shelters with a view to fostering. He said he didn't know about the fostering option and would go to the shelters an offer to foster because he would love the company of a dog. He was missing the dog he left back home with his parents. He obviously loved dogs and was fairly dog savvy. I hope he was accepted as a foster carer.
