  1. Hello all We recently moved to Canberra earlier in the year and as the weather gets warmer we are looking for some camping spots where we can take the dog. I like to fit in a spot of surfing so will be looking at somewhere along the coast. Looking at the south coast (Nowra/Batemans Bay) all allocated camping spots are in the National Parks. Does anyone know of any spots that are State Forrest or otherwise that are suitable? We don't need much, just a spot to pitch the tent! - Not looking for a caravan park. Happy to drive up to 3 hours :) Thanks! *edited for caravan parks
  2. Ours is similar, starts with a shake then turns into an infection. Has only happened once a year maybe. Just looking to prevent it in the future! Thanks for the tips. Will look into human ones :)
  3. So my vet suggested adding some PAWS probiotic to our vizsla's diet to help with his ears. After a quick search online they don't seem to make this one anymore? She liked it as it had a certain strain. Just wondering if anyone has a good online store (range and price) for buying these? Also need to pick up some monthly heartworm, suggested online stores? Thanks!
  4. Thanks guys, seems like I just need to get over it and buy the tools! I was in Bunnings today and saw an ozito one fr a lot cheaper. Does it pay to go with a dremel or will another brand still do the job?
  5. Thanks Haredown, that's the plan long term, was hoping to get someone to get the ball rolling
  6. Hey guys, Does anyone have recommendations for a groomer in the Canberra area? We have a vizsla who has never really had his nails done. Our old house had a lot of concrete and they used to wear down naturally. As their nails are quite hard and black I was looking for someone who would grind rather than cut. Any help would be great :)
  7. Not sure if this (or another similar article) has already been posted but hopefully you enjoy! Its a photographer from Russia who uses her children and their bond with animals as subject matter. If you head to her website there are many more.. so beautiful! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2539802/The-child-animal-whisperers-Mothers-intimate-photographs-capture-sons-special-bond-dogs-ducks-rabbits.html
  8. Hey all, We will be driving from Adelaide to Sorrento tomorrow and are aiming to be there by midday. We have a dog and cat who both eat raw so looking for a butcher/fresh meat pet place on the way, preferably closest to sorrento as possible (Frankston etc.)! Any help is greatly appreciated! :)
  9. No advise as such, but our boy did this with his food when he was little, wouldn't eat (after we said OK) unless we were by his side. Doesn't happen much anymore, only when he is a little under the weather or trying to be fussy (once in a blue moon) and while it is quite nice it is a little impractical. Interested to hear what others think in regards to the 'why' as its a funny little habit.
  10. This happens is so many industries, I really dont think its so bad. Aged care get it for working certain shifts, doing things that they may not like to do and it's an appreciation of doing what's needed to be done. I really don't think it's an incentive at all!
  11. They are always busy.. the main wholesale place on old port road always has about 20 butchers serving!
  12. Thanks for the ideas everyone, I have contacted a few and looks like it definitely is possible, both from rescue's in the ACT and NSW! SkySoaringMagpie: I have had the opportunity to meet a number (sadly) coming through the AWL over the last 3-4 months and have really enjoyed each and every one of them. I never really thought of a sighthound rescue, so thanks! I don't know a lot about them, other than a few breeds but would love to know more. Thanks again everyone, just need to sort out a house that will accommodate my hopes for 2014!
  13. Gawler River Cattle Co had some in the freezer the other day, they are usually very cheap, especially if you buy in bulk! Maybe give them a call?
  14. Hello, We are moving to Canberra in the new year and I was looking at trying to start fostering Greyhounds. Doing a Google search there really doesn't seem to be any around that service the ACT or the surrounds. I was wondering if anyone in here knew of any? We are happy to drive to pick up if needed as Sydney is really not that far. Any help would be appreciated!
  15. Hi all! We are moving to Canberra next year and want to start searching for a good, understanding vet. Looking for someone who understands abouts raw diet and will titre test for a reasonable price (our current vet charged 250 for only two tests!!). Not fussed about location as everything is pretty close and we are still unsure about where we are going to live. Thanks :)
  16. Sorry realised the issue was more gum health. I guess it would be similar to us with plaque causing infection within the gums and gingivitis?
  17. We got a tip for Plaque Off which we found on amazing, teamed with a tooth scraper for the early days. The product is made from seaweed.. Sounds skeptical but it's worked a treat! We just add it to his meat once a day and we saw a difference within 2-3 weeks
  18. Nikita (surf, skate, snow), Nixon, DC, Hurley, volcom, vans, fallen
  19. I've noticed a change at the shelter I volunteer at. Agree that people just are not out as much in the cooler weather and probably don't have the time to commit.
  20. We just used a large esky to take up some room. Get creative!
  21. Thanks everyone, it was happening around 4pm which is why I had thought he was just hungry! We have fed twice a day yesterday and today and no issues, live and learn! Feeling better now that that he is :)
  22. Hello collective information hub! We have a 2 1/2 year old vizsla who has been throwing up once a day for the last 3-4 days. He seems fine, eating and drinking fine and energy is OK (bit lethargic but it is cold so that is normal!). It seems to be just yellow bile with nothing else in there. I am pretty non concerned about a little, as long as everything else is OK. He used to do it when he was younger if we missed a meal and he was hungry so not sure if that has anything to do with it, now that its winter and he is eating more? I guess I am wondering if I should be concerned, any ideas why or what we can do to help? I was thinking back to 2 meals, or some bland food for a few days (he is currently on raw so kangaroo, beef and lamb at the present). Thanks!
  23. I think from reading the Titre thread the animal hospital (in Marion I think) does it for a really good cost. My vet quoted the same and I just went with it, they couldn't even do hep so I just got the other two, still around $200. Will definitely shop around next time!
  24. Such a great segment! Love that they just had it running around the studio! Very funny show.. That is all.
  25. Hey guys, thank you everyone for replying, I have just gotten around to getting the results in a little more detail (she did not give me actual figures just where they are in the table). Pavo was between 1-1600 so really high and definitely don't have to vaccinate. Distemper was only 1-8, not the least amount of anti-bodies which is 1-2 but quite low. Unfortunately my vet couldn't test for hepatitis although she said she would have expected it to come with similar results for distemper. I understand distemper would have been lower as there are hardly any cases/chances for him to be around it. Now just not sure what to do going forward with vaccinations. The thing it to vaccinate for distemper I would have to vaccinate for pavo also as they are a combined injection. I just know I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't vaccinate and then something happened. Thoughts from the more experienced?
