  1. I think if you need to tow horses you may run into trouble with the outlanders suspension and towing capacity. The Xtrail and Rav would be the same with the towing capacity, I guess it depends how big your horse float is and how many horses you regularly tow at once. My MIL has a Rav and I'd never own one after driving hers and the room inside isn't fantastic. I know our local vet had an outlander and got rid of it very quickly as the boot area wasn't big enough and the suspension wasn't good enough to carry her vet gear let alone tow anyting with weight. She now owns a Hyundai Santa Fe. As for the Triton, we have a mate that races speedway with us and he tows a fully enclosed 6 metre trailer with car and all inside, total weight approx 2.7t and it has no dramas at all. For a cheaper option though I would look very closely at the BT-50 3L CRTD dual cab with a canapoy on the back. They have heaps of torque and plenty of room in the back, put an insulated canapoy with whirly birds on top and you are set, would tick all boxes for you!
  2. Well according to my mum's naturopath (mum is a ceoliac) the flaxseed 'OIL' not capsules is the best of all. But mum won't cook with it as she hates the taste it puts through the food, and she has hell trying to 'drink' it so for her fish oil is the next best thing. But I've never looked into it myself thoroughly. From the quick look around googles finds, it appears that most recommendations are that BOTH need to be consumed in conjunction as Flaxseed provides ALA which the body uses to produce ALL required Omega 3s in the body, while Fish Oil provides EPA and DHA, the body can make these out of ALA, however the conversion rate is pretty poor, so therefore it's advisable to take both. Well there you go learned something new. Just to note: I have a friend with Great Danes and she said her's LOVE the taste of the flaxseed oil!
  3. Nope just that the suggestion was evening primrose and flaxseed!
  4. Well that's positive, it looked very good on paper. I'm hoping someone with a little more 'dog' knowledge than myself might be able to confirm if there is anything in the product they shouldn't have. It looked fine to me but I'm far from an expert.
  5. Hey guys, We have seen a holistic vet with the two amstaffs and at the moment we are using Vets All Natural Skin supplement and WOW are coats a gleaming, it's phenomenal. This is a link to the product info http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/index.php...1&Itemid=28 Whilst there though they suggested an alternative to that product which would be a combination of Flaxseed and Evening primrose.... now I found this product Udo's Choice ( http://www.udoschoice.co.uk/ingredients.html ) and it has both those products plus a couple of others. Anyone had any experience or got any thoughts for me? Cheers Aleesha Edit: had wrong link for Udo's
  6. LOL my Amstaffs do the same thing, they don't get any more rusks for their everlasting treat balls. All three have been 'popped' out and eaten. My boy doesn't like Kongs at all, no matter what I put in them, the girl does though. I find the knotted raw hide bone things an awesome chewing toy, keeps the pooches occupied for ages. They're not cheap I buy ones that are about a foot long and they $5 ish each, but they keep them going for a good few days, it's great. Also I find the days they have a chicken carcass they are less inclined to chew... not sure what the correlation there is.
  7. Try the capstar for immediate relief.... and get the comfortis on friday when the funds are available.
  8. They are gorgeous..... well done! I've only had my two for 5 weeks and we got them as an 11 month male and 4 month female (both amstaff's) they hadn't had any training before I got them and so far we only do sit, drop, stay and come..... once they are MASTERED we'll move on to more! I LOVE the high five you do, it's very cute. I can completely empathise with the training two at once.... can be a bit tricky huh?!?!
  9. I do think you are right regarding 'why' pooch is digging, however if the 'backyard' is made more 'interesting' there may be less inclination to try and get out. We put the pit in as they were digging around the base of one of our air con units and at the shed slab, they clearly 'loved' the sensation of moving the dirt, it was crazy how excited they got by the flying dirt. My escaper used to go OVER the six foot fence and the only thing that fixed her was an electric fence, it worked wonders. Positioning is paramount though. Good luck with what ever you do!
  10. Ok so some tips on the sand pit.... if you buy a clam shell... job done, LOL!! If you decide to build one like we did, don't put the black lining up the sides as when they find it, they like to tear it off, then they realise it's also at the bottom. Needless to say I think there is enough sand there that the weeds and stuff won't get in but it's nicer to know it's lined. So far so good with the cats, checked again this arve and nothing untoward in there.
  11. No, it clearly says FUNKYTOWN...and when you know where that is you know that everyone calls it that. I was intrigued with how you knew given it only said Funkytown (I'm from North QLD) so I googled Funkytown victoria australia.... lead me straight to where you actually live. Just thought you might be interested to know it's easier to work out.
  12. Oh you poor thing that is horrible..... If he had intentions of doing something horrible it's strange he allowed you to see him and his very identifiable car so very clearly. I hope nothing more comes of it and perhaps you should find a friend to take on your walk with you so you can still have it.
  13. So far we haven't had a problem, but it's only been a week so it's VERY early days, LOL..... I will see how we go!
  14. Hey BD, Are you talking about my photo of the sandpit? Thankfully our two aren't overly interested in getting out. We have had one minor incident though, situation now under control. But I'm not sure if the OP (BeckShai&Roxy) has the same gap that could be 'inviting' her pooch to try dig out. I only posted the photo as someone suggested to BeckShai&Roxy, that possibly a 'clam pool with sand' as a digging spot would help and we had just recently built this for our guys.
  15. Oh yes we just built our dogs (Boof n Lilly - Amstaffs) a new sandpit, they LOVE it....... didn't even think about that myself. Good point ETH!
  16. I had an escape artist... (now deceased) we tried EVERYTHING imaginable to no avail, the only thing that stopped her was an electric fence. She touched it twice and never tried to escape again! Unless we were with her to walk her through the gate she wouldn't go within a foot of the fence. Edit: She was walked every morning and arve, had plenty of toys ie: kongs/rope toys/chewy toys/raw hide bones etc and another dog to play with and she still wanted the greener grass on the other side so to speak.
  17. Our two outside with the hose off the tank.... it's warm most of the year in the middle of the day so we should be alright in winter but summer they love it.... depends how stinky they get but every 3-4 weeks and every second month the dog lady comes so they get their nails cut and everything.
  18. We were at the vet today with a tummy issue and they have advised 12 hours without food.... then a very slow reintroduction of food starting with cooked chicken and rice, slowly building back to what they would normally have. For us this progression will be: chicken and cooked rice .... next raw chicken mince & natural pot set yoghurt ...... then to roo mince ...... then to chicken necks .... then normal (chicken carcasses, roo tails, lamb flaps, sardines, raw eggs etc and then lastly their kibble which they only get every couple of days anyway!
  19. Just wondering what you decided on? Did you come up with something extra special after getting all that inspiration from everyone?
  20. Sue, I've never used anything else, my last dog (adopted by my folks) was on it from a pup and never had any trouble and Boof n Lilly have had their injections as well with no issue. I'm only new to DOL so haven't seen the thread you are talking about it, but have never heard anything bad previously. No doubt someone will tell us what the negatives are! Cheers Aleesha
  21. Is there no access to a patio or anything similar? Our guys are outside permanently, we don't let them inside at all, but their beds are up on the patio, which is almost an alcove style patio in the house, it is covered on 2.5 sides. The beds are in the corner that is most protected so they can always get completely out of the sun/rain/wind etc and the roof is obviously insulated as it is part of the house roof. Also they have access to the open bay of the shed where the truck is parked so they have plenty of shelter. I have to agree with the others that a dog kennel would need some other form of shad over it to keep it cool. But at least it would get them out of the wind and rain, so if in the shade and cool enough would be fine.
  22. Bon Jovi References: Sayreville - Bon Jovi's town of origin Bongiovi - Jon Bon Jovis Play on your name and Bon Jovi Bonatovi Jovitasha Jashovi Jashatovi Play on your dogs names jodarno Jovdanov You may hate them you may love them.... who knows... but that was fun! If nothing else hope I provided some inspiration for what ever you decide on. Good luck
  23. I'm not promising I'll come up with anything creative but I'd love to have a go. Being completely new to the world of pedigree purebred dogs ........ is there anything a prefix needs to be/include etc that I should know about before letting my brain go crazy?
  24. If you use the search function up the right corner of the page and search 'feeding raw' or something similar you will find HEAPS of threads that already discuss this. However the one with probably the most info is here: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...;hl=feeding+raw
