  1. Leelaa You need urgent professional help now. This is not the puppy's problem. You sat down at the dog park and cuddled her!!!!!!!! Cuddles are for at home, you have created this problem. But you need help to fix this. You cannot fix this without urgent professional help.
  2. Down the hill and slightly across country to Dr Karen Hedberg at North Richmond. About 15 -20 minutes by car. Great vet, very sensible and really caring.
  3. Possibly in the late 1970's to early 1980's when you could still smoke on public transport and in offices. Is what the doctors have put it down to, due to the position of the cancer.
  4. I REALLY, REALLY care and at the moment if anyone lights a cigarette around me I am likely to go off like a time bomb. My wonderful husband at the age of 57 who has never smoked and his parents are non- smokers, with our being a non- smoking house. Has just had HALF his right lung removed due to Lung Cancer from secondary smokers. Thankfully from being diagnosed to having the lungpartially removed was 2 1/2 weeks!!!! His prognois is good. I would like smoking banned at dog shows, I find a lot of smokers at shows are not conciderate, standing at the entrance to the ring so you get a face full of smoke when you want to go in with your dog. Also the number of butts left on the ground is massive. We have never allowed smokers in our house, near our children or our pets. Now I don't just move I say something. Anyhow, women I know that are 10 years younger than me that smoke all look 10 years older. Who wants to look like they are 50 - 60 years old when they are somewhere around 35 - 45 cause they are stupid enough to smoke. Okay, still ranting as I crawl back to my smoke free house............
  5. Can I recommend training with Sutherland DTC or Hurstville Dog Training Club, otherwise Eastern Suburbs or Sydney all breeds, these all have trainers and competitors in obedience competition. A lot of the instructors and members of these clubs have attended a lot of lectures and courses run thru the Delta people or the NDTA or other clubs to get a very rounded education. I went to St George last year and was not at all impressed, not were I would train a dog, non of the trainers were invoved or had been invoved in obedience training, non had done any courses other than the St George's clubs internal courses.
  6. Renting in the Richmond, Windsor and surrounds is actually quiteexpensive due to the RAAF base and the University of Western Sydney having a campus at Richmond as well as a large TAFE in Richmond. My goddaughter and her husband pay $350.00 for an extrememly small 20+ yearold house with 3 tiny bedrooms. Can I suggest contacting Real Estate Agents now, letting them know when you will be looking to move, and asking them if they have any vacancies coming up around that date to let you know. I fully agree with pet references etc, also pet bond. One positive note is as a lot of landlords have had RAAF families renting with dogs, they are not to phased by people having a dog/s. Good luck for finding somewhere suitable to live.
  7. Okay, anyone looking for a cheap bike, gloves or any form of riding gear Aldi has a special coming up on the 17th February. Mike, I am hoping to do the Canberra ET. For me to drive out to Erskine Park it is a 90 minute drive each way, to Canberra it is a 3 hours 30 minutes. Practising at either venue is a little bit difficult, but would love to practise with someone, the Diva really needs to learn to keep going around other dogs.
  8. Went to the park yesterday morning, with my girl to push-bike around the track. No other dogs in the park, which I knew at the time I went there never is!!!! Well a woman drives up lets her dog out of the car which proceeds to race well over 200 metres to attack mine. Words were said.
  9. I am the person that walks up to the people who don't pick up their dog's poo and promptly hand them a poo bag say very loudly, "Oh, isn't it annoying when you don't have a poo bag to hand". If they don't pick up their dog's poo then, I say in a very loud voice, "Do you have a problem picking up your dog's poo." If that doesn't work. I follow them around the park saying to everyone in an EXTREMELY LOUD PENETRATING VOICE did you see that person they don't pick up their dog's poo." Normally they go and pick up or are never seen at the park again. But hey I do walk GSD's and I can be the sort of person who has no shame in dealing with dirty people. You wonder if they pick up at home???????
  10. It is very expensive to get Graham Allen to read the plates!!! I would try Dr Lavelle. other than that you would have to contact the AVA in your state and ask if they have an approved AVA list of readers. I don't know if you are going thru your breed club as Drs Wyburn and Lavelle are our GSDCA two (2) accepted readers at this stage.
  11. Wondering if anyone wants to meet up and do some biking practise together. The Diva gets so excited, I think I need practise at getting her used to working on the bike around other dogs. I live in inner city but could meet most places. Also Sydney Park is a good place to practise for anyone looking for somewhere off road to ride with their dog. Also does anyone have any other training place suggestions?
  12. I have been reading this thread with a great deal of interest. I am actually begining to feel quite priveliged. I live in the inner City of Sydney and have German Shepherds and have had in the inner city for almost 30 years., with no problems taking my dogs most places. Sydney City Council is very pro-dog Council, Sydney Park which is a very large park is an off-lead park. King Street, Newtown has so many coffee shops and resturants withoutside areas where you can sit and have coffee or dinner with your dog, with no problems whatsoever, frequently the wiater/waitress will bring out a plastic disposable container of water for your dogs. Some cafes you can ask for something off the menu for your dog, which is given to the dog again in a disposable plastic container. I have never, ever had a problem either in most shops in taking the dogs in, a lot of shops eg chemists and supermarket have a ring screwed into the wall for the dogs to be tied to away from the traffic while you go in. Also I have noticed parents with young children in Newtown are very dog aware and will ask before child pats the dog. Marrickville Council is tending to go towards a more positive attitued towards dogs as well, I find going down Marrickville Rd that again no problems having coffee and something to eat with the dog/s. Also in both Sydney and Marrickville Council areas there tends to now be units/apartments being sold were the body corporate rules have been changed to allow pets, with this being a main selling point for the units and people being advised not to buy unless they liked animals. Included on DA when I have gone and looked have been specific toilet areas for the dogs to use and in one unit block they had a dog washing area included!!! I think the main issue with dog ownership is for those in rental accommodation, unless you have references and are willing to offer a pet bond, accommodation is hard to obtain. Public transport does need to be worked on, as when I was in my teens and early 20's you could take dogs on buses and trains in the Sydney Metro area. I used to use public transport regularly with my dogs. IMHO it is the people who don't train their dogs, don't pick up after their dogs and have generally poor dog etiquette that makes it very difficult for the dog owners that do, do the right thing. For those of us that go to obedience training/clubs with our dogs, I think we could all say when you look at the dog population in your local suburb there are very few of dogs really being brought to training. And of course my biggest bugbear of all times is people with male dogs that allow the dog to cock its leg everywhere ie at the beach on other peoples clothing, in cafe's on chair legs or table legs. It is not necessary for a male dog to cock its leg, it can be trained not to cock. (Note I have trained 3 male shepherds not to cock) Why do guys think the higher their dog cocks its leg the more macho the dog is!!!!! Sorry about the length of my comments.
  13. This article also missed the Airport Beach at Kymeenah, just of General Holmes Drive, also missed out Wanda Beach which is sign posted for dogs and they can swim between certain hours in summmer. Can anyone else add missing or known beaches?? I have heard there are some in the eastern suburbs does anyone know.
  14. Hi I have had a bitch that used to be mated on day 28, I mated her 3 times on day 28 and had 1st litter 12 puppies, 2nd litter 10 puppies, 3rd litter 8 puppies. A bitch in the same garden with her had to be mated on days 7 and 9, the results were always smaller litters never bigger than 6. But I think that day 12 - 14 is a guide only, I have known numerous breeders who will tell you that their bitch is mated on different days. Good luck, possibly a short seperation might be the trick to get them more aroused.
  15. Link to a list of all dog beaches in the Sydney Metro Area. Some of them look really good. Hope you enjoy taking your dog to one of them, would love to come with you.
  16. I have been thinking, we need to approach bicycle manufacturers to sponser the ET's. Or local bike shops I think they are actually making money out of all our pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Well the Diva is now out of season enough to really put some work into her. I decided not to do a lot of work with her when she was really, really interesting. I am still walking and swimming her, and practising biking by myself. Still very nervous on the bike. Hope everyone in flooded and flooding regions keeps safe and well.
  18. I am another that picks up stray dogs that are playing chicken with the traffic and takes them to the closes vet. Last dog I did this with was a lovely Italian Greyhound, who I then dropped off at a vet, she had already possibly been hit by a car as she had a nasty gash on he thigh. When I contacted the vet the next day, she had been picked up by her owners, the vet had also stitched her up. I don't get people who let their dogs run loose, I am so paranoid about mine getting out.

  20. Well I have met a Chi years ago (about 15+) this dog bit someone so badly they needed 16 stitches. (Note the dog was a purebreed with papers, and was shown) The other Chi is a rescue at our local obedience club, rescued by a complete nutter who lets this dog dive out and attack the bigger dogs.
  21. Depending on where you live in Sydney, you might want to give an organisation called the Men's Shed a call. The Men's Shed Quite often I believe these guys will make things to order for people, for those that don't know it is where men who have an interest in carpentry and other shed type activies and don't have their own shed.
  22. Hi Kate Would you be interested in a good quality rescue. GSDL in NSW has a couple of nice bitches in rescue at the moment. GSDL Rescue Hope this helps, good luck finding a nice adult.
  23. Hi Terra-Nik Could you please post a link to the Sydney Dogs Moonlight Cinema. I can't locate it this year, so far. Thanks Sydney Dogs Moolinght Cinema Okay, found it now that I look again. Won't be able to go with the Diva this year she is in season. ;) ;)
  24. My biggest issue with websites is the poor spelling and grammar. I want to be able to understand what I am reading. ie like in the poll above the spelling for "their website" is correct "there website is incorrect" it really annoys me, and I actually have a number of friends who agree. Spelling the name correctly of your chosen breed is really, really important.
  25. Hi Michael Do you have any suggestions on training bitches in season. please?
