  1. We have 4 GSD sized dogs and quite often have equipment to pass on to a rescue org. We had a local one in Perth but I haven't been able to find a large breed org on the Mornington Peninsula except the pound and RSPCA. We'd rather support an independant org if it's an option. We're on the other side to Mornington. Do you have a drop off point between Tyabb and Flinders?
  2. This is the accommodation we found via google last night in Anglesea VIC. It's called Maroo Park Cottages. Secluded 2 bedroom cedar and pine cottages, slate floors, open wood fire, pool and outdoor spa, tennis court, mini golf and kids play park. Here's the best bit- quiet well behaved dogs are welcome inside and they even have stables for horses. www.maroopark.com.au
  3. Trip updates: Great Ocean Road and Cape Otway. Stay tuned for photos of the amazing accommodation we found by accident. Picture a secluded wood cabin with slate floors, an open fire and best of all the dogs are welcome inside......
  4. Trip updates: Millicent, Tantanoola Caves, Mt Gambier lake and forest crossing the border SA to VIC, Casterton and Hamilton.
  5. Trip updates: Murray Bridge (bunyip and Big Olive), Tailem Bend, Meningie, Kingston, Robe, Woakwine Cutting and Beachport.
  6. More updates since Ceduna. Streaky Bay, Kimba, El Alamein, Port Augusta, Auburn, Kapunda and Gumeracha. Come check us out. www.facebook.com/assistance.dog.rakim www.facebook.com/assistance.dog.tlaloc
  7. Bit of a fan of these too! Not biased or anything.....
  8. Thank you for your wonderful offer. We won't be going that way this trip but will in the future. We are starting to get recognised on the road now lol! Trip updates: Streaky Bay, Kimba, El Alamein and Port Augusta.
  9. Voloclydes, we have three GSDs and a WSSD. The WSS and one of the GSDs are assistance dogs so they can go into national parks etc. The other two are pets with no rights of access so essentially if we go somewhere, one of us will fursit (usually the OH) while I go and take a photo. They are never left alone. Accommodation has been an issue as expected. Very few 'pet friendly' providers are interested in four dogs no matter how well behaved or their training.
  10. We left Perth, travelled up to the Pinnacles, Greenough, Principality of Hutt River and Badgingarra and down and around just a small part of WA's southwest corner (Australind, Busselton, Augusta, Cape Leeuwin, Margaret River and The Valley of the Giants near Walpole) before heading through Wagin and Hyden to Norseman. We then lost reception until now. I've posted a lot of trip updates on www.facebook.com/assistance.dog.rakim and www.facebook.com/assistance.dog.tlaloc 's pages: Balladonia, Australia's longest straight, CWST time zone, V8 Supercars rig, Madura Pass, RFDS, wildlife sightings, Eucla Station, Border crossing WA/ SA, Rooey, distance signpost, treeless plains, Nullarbor whale, road signs, the Head of the Bight, roadside and rest stop scenery, Ceduna quarantine, Nullarbor Crossing certificates and the Ceduna Oyster. Enjoy!
  11. Thanks everyone. Glad to know the dog's ramblings are making for light and hopefully informative reading. Well we've left WA now and are slowly meandering through SA. Upcoming posts will include a paddock of windmills, a quarantine inspection, a giant oyster and a world record sized white pointer shark. Stay tuned.......
  12. We're currently on a roap trip from Perth to Melbourne with four dogs (and no we're not completely mad). Two of our dogs have their own facebook pages where you can follow their adventures: www.facebook.com/assistance.dog.tlaloc www.facebook.com/assistance.dog.rakim Tlaloc has completed this trip three times already but it's Rakim's first time and he's chalking up a lot of new experiences. Come and see what they got up to between Perth and Norseman.
  13. Zeebie, do you have a link to the new Australian legislation you mentioned? To my knowledge there isn't an Australia wide ID card (yet) and only Qld, SA and WA have state ID cards. NSW and VIC have an Assistance Animal Pass. All other ID cards are issued by the training organisation. The last time I checked, the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act doesn't make any mention of vesting or ID requirements, only that evidence must be produced on request that the dog is an assistance dog and is trained to an appropriate standard for working in a public place. No evidence - service can legally be refused. It does not say what form that evidence must be. The vesting and equipment requirements are set by the training organisations for their own dogs. Only the QLD Act requires dogs to display a badge but this only applies for dogs that have been recognised by the state authority.
  14. We finally found a place after 14 months. Who says patience doesn't pay! Edited to add the human size crate is a TFH 48".
  15. We were asked why we have dog crates and if there was any real benefit to dogs being crate trained. This photo speaks for itself: These are three of our dogs asleep in their crates (doors open). The fourth dog was in her crate behind me. In itself it doesn't seem that noteworthy except that they're doing this while there are a heap of strangers in the house packing everything into boxes ready for our move interstate. Their routine is completely disrupted, unfamiliar noises and smells in their home and the house is in total chaos yet the dogs are completely relaxed. For us that's a benefit of crate training - no stressed dogs in a highly stressful environment.
  16. Found these two camped out in front of the oven waiting for the chocolate pudding to cook.
  17. The snow effect is ash from a grass fire nearby. It came in when I opened the front door.
  18. I'm about to buy one now - thanks Dxenion :) Is your dog about to drink with it on? Yep they have no problems. You can trim the length to suit. I can grab a video of them drinking with one on if that helps.
  19. Try a Novaguard. Far better design and less restrictive than a traditional collar. Our dogs have no problems negotiating dog doors with them on. No loss of side vision either like they have with the comfy collars. As a bonus it's an Aussie product. If you order one tell them Dxenion sent you.
  20. Yep I agree! Who wouldn't feel on top of the world with a welcome like this?
  21. Our four dogs greeting my OH on his return from 2 1/2 months away with the Australian Defence Force.
  22. White Swiss Shepherd. A cousin to the German Shepherd. No it's not just a fancy way to say white German Shepherd. They are different in structure and temperament. No he's not an albino.
