  1. Sounds like she has an assistance dog not a therapy dog. If her condition meets the definition of a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act and she has evidence that the dog is an assistance dog and is trained to an appropriate standard of hygiene and behaviour for working in public then there is no issue.
  2. Did the dog leave it's property? Am I understanding you correctly that you expect her dog to be on a leash even while on it's own property? I guess it does raise a couple of points. I think you are supposed to have unrestricted access to the front door. The behaviour of the dog as you described could be restrictive to most people however as you were only going past, not to the house I don't think this applies here. The other point is that in many states a dog rushing at you can be classed as a dog attack. Whether that could be applied in this situation is a matter for your ranger.
  3. We've had two elderly dogs on cartrophen. We got great results from the first course but I felt the second course and boosters were not worth the money as there seemed to be little or no response. We achieved much better results with glyde and no longer give our senior girl the cartrophen boosters.
  4. The Official Government Vet (as at Jan 2011) that signed off our paperwork was Tamara Davydova. The other details listed for her are: Address: Finista DV, Stockholmsv 11, 76251 Rimbo, Sweden. Phone: +46 8 175 60 599/ +46 8 597 852 10 Fax: +46 8 175 606 40/ +46 8 597 852 11 Email: [email protected]
  5. One of mine is from Sweden (imp Feb 2011). Contact Debbie Dunagen from ScandiPet (Manlotens Quarantine): [email protected] They arranged all the AQIS requirements at the Swedish end for me. Phone: +46 8 511 786 39 Fax: +46 8 511 786 75
  6. When I was in Perth we started using conditioner on two of our GSDs to help with itchy skin issues and it did the trick. Since moving to Melbourne, their coats have improved dramatically so I might not need to use it anymore. The vet did say they see a lot of skin issues in dogs moving to the west coast from the east, dogs that didn't have issues before they moved. We'll see if the dry skin issues disappear after their next bath now we're back in Melbourne.
  7. Our lot eat their dinner and then put themselves to bed. We have a deep chested breed so I wont let them run about after their meal. I've seen too many episodes of GT to risk it.
  8. Agree however you may be able to negotiate a better price (we did). I bought a cheaper one from another reputable supplier and was extremely disappointed with the flimsy quality of the tray which cracked after only a couple of months. The TFH ones have lasted a couple of years with no signs of stress.
  9. I am watching. I liked the winning one the best however I kept wanting to move the diaginal line down the photo just a bit and wished the background was just that tiny bit clearer to give more of a hint of what lay beyond.
  10. A statement from the neighbour that confronted the woman would help a lot too.
  11. Exactly, irresponsible owner thinks it's funny, what happens if the poor dog gets hit by a car, gets in a fight with another dog, eats poisoned food, or possibly bite someone if it gets scared or threatened. People on here shouldn't be finding this story cute or funny. I watched the news report. Aside from being less than impressed by this thief which (by the owner's own admission) is guilty of 'wandering at large' on multiple occassions, I wondered if the journalistic slant or public reaction to the story would have been the same if it was a GSD, staffy, rotty etc
  12. I've sent you a PM. Could I please get some too? Yep just send me a PM.
  13. Yes! How well do they stay on? And would they be obscured by a long coat? We've had them for a few years and haven't lost any yet. They go over the top of the fur on the legs. Ours have literally stopped traffic!
  14. Like these? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=281447081905144&set=a.186197488096771.43209.185992954783891&type=3
  15. I have a house full of shepherds (GSD and WSSD) ranging from 20 months to 12 1/2 years. The youngest spent his first 12 weeks growing up in a Swedish winter. All of them definitely feel the cold despite their double coats.
  16. I would have asked if the pups were facility or therapy dogs and if they had written permission from the facility to be there. If the answer was no, I would have told them they must leave immediately as they are breaking the law. If they didn't immediately leave, I would have gotten straight on the phone to management. Then there's the issue with selling pups that may or may not have been microchipped. Who would you report that to?
  17. A video camera strategically placed helped me discover who was playing with the fridge door for over 17 minutes.
  18. You can certainly ask if the dog is an assistance dog and ask for evidence that the dog is trained to an appropriate standard of hygiene and behaviour for working in a public place. Please note though that not all ADs will have a government or organisation ID.
  19. ADs do not need to be accredited to have the same access rights.
  20. Not quite correct. An AD is still an AD even if it only works in the home. Companion animals are a different issue and don't have the same rights of access. ADs from organisations are usually required to wear that organisation's vest or gear and will have that organisation's ID. For those who have applied through the QLD, SA or WA state government for recognition will have an ID card. Those who have applied for the NSW or VIC assistance animal pass will have an ID card. However, there will be ADs that don't have a government or organisation card but do have the same rights of access as a guide dog and do not legally have to wear a vest or other equipment that identifies them as such.
  21. We had only just moved into our new place when the area experienced a storm big enough to bring down a tree. As the tree fell, it ripped out powerlines leaving us without power and heat for 50 hours during the coldest weather in 12 years. Out of the blue Tintin Jac offered us and our four dogs a warm place to stay despite having only briefly met my OH through last years Secret Santa. This incredible offer from a person I have never met literally took my breath away. For me Tintin Jac's offer exemplifies the caring nature of exeptional people that I might never have discovered if it wasn't for DOL.
  22. Metal bowls for food and a stainless steel one for their water. Easy to clean, more light weight and durable than ceramic and more chewproof than plastic.
  23. Perhaps a strategically placed cactus garden would stop them from jumping over. It would keep Ziggy out of harms reach too.
