Hey everyone! I am waiting for my dogue de bordeaux puppy, Nala, who will be arriving by plane in two weeks! Waiting is driving me insane! I have an exam at uni 3 days before she arrives, so part of me wants the week to go slowly so I have plenty of time to study, while I also want the week to hurry up so I can see her !! It is also extremely distracting, I am finding it so hard to sit down and study, when there is just so much puppy stuff I want to read about or buy! How are all your little ones going?

Can dogs have night terrors? Might be a long shot, but trying to escape so badly - maybe he is having night terrors?

Can you put an apostrophe in the resistered name? If we wanted to call her Nala's Pride can we do that? or does that name sound a bit pretentious? pride has a double meaning: pride of lions/being proud.

What are the dates for next years meets? Our pup won't be 12 weeks until the end of December, so won't have her vacs. But we should be able to bring her and our other dog jan/feb. - Might even bring my Dad's cocker spaniel...she is turning into a bit of a grumpy old lady and needs some socializing.

Hey DOLers! I thought this would be a good place to begin my search for a place to learn all about handling dogs for the show ring. I might sound a bit naive, but I guess we all have to start somewhere. I would like to learn how to show my Dogue de Bordeaux puppy, where do I start? Our breeder is interstate and althoughs she gave some great advice, she didn't know places here in Adelaide that offers handler training. Any advice for a biginner who would like to get into this great sport? Thank you everyone :D

Dogue de Bordeaux: Same with our Dogue de Bordeaux! They have got to be one of the most gentle dogs I have ever known. I have had babies climb all over our girl and she doesn't mind a bit. Yet people are terrified of her. I have had people scream when she walks past, though they don't mind a bit when the neighbours Golden Retreiver runs at them full pelt. This always intrigues me, because if you want a dog to freak out and attack, wouldn't moving quickly and screaming do just that lol They do drool though...people are spot on there. Cocker Spaniels: Are NOT dumb dogs. Many people warned us against getting our cocker, but she is the smartest little thing I know. She sings on demand, plays dead, rolls over, bows weaves through your legs and knows words such as bunny and pussy cat, mouse, bird - and she didn't even need any formal training to learn all that, she just picked it up...sometimes only a few tries and she will have picked up a new trick. Not dumb at all.

I was thinking that too Jules.. bit of an overreaction for two days of no contact if that's all it was.. if I was the breeder I'd be unimpressed to see this thread here after such a short time. My thoughts too. Not only is it all over DOL but I wonder how many other people have heard all about this breeder that 'refused' to answer calls, texts and emails. Give them a break. If you haven't received your papers, your breeder seems to have disappeared AND you find out that they are not financial members... I think you would be a bit concerned too. It is all cleared up now, no harm done, they were just seeked advice on what to do.

Hi Emileigh, i hope all goes well with your purchase..this is also my first pedigree puppy and i'm so glad to have her, she means the world to me, its like having a new baby that won't let you sleep lol. She is still currently getting use to her surrounding so the barking at night is very much new to me at the moment waking up every 30mins to her howling or barking. I hope to keep everyone updated on receiving my papers. Well i have the parents pedigree papers (copy). But fingers cross i will get mine also and i will make sure that i get it or else i will be taking it further... Its not right what these breeders are doing and hope that there will be new laws with purchasing puppies on pedigrees. Sounds lovely, can't wait until we get our little princess. Having so much trouble thinking up a name for her registration though. I am just not creative enough - and prehaps a bit fussy! Glad to hear that you are happy with your new family member regardless of the breeders incompetence and the lack of sleep. It really is like having a new baby. I am not looking foward to toilet training, I haven't had a puppy in 9 years so may be a bit out of practice and am sure I will be waking up to puddles around the house often . We just purchased our first dogue de bordeaux but won't get her for a few weeks. I hope we don't have the same kind of problems :S we have never had pedigree dogs before so we are learning as we go. Got to start somewhere I guess. I think that if you have paid for a dog on main register, then legally you should get what you were promised. If nothing happens in 4 weeks. Contact Dogs NSW...I am sure they can advise you of the next step. I guess, like anything else that you purchase, if you don't get what you pay for then there are actions you can take.

Maybe we will follow your footsteps and name ours after our fav songs. Can't seem to convince my partner of Hakuna Matata, though personally I think it is perfect and would have LOVED a Lion King theme. 'our' song when we first got together was One Wish by some RnB singer that was remixed. It was a terrible song, but the lyrics meant something to us. So maybe we could call her (prefix) If I Could Have One Wish (this, including the prefix and spaces would make it exactly 30 characters!) or (prefix) One Wish thoughts?

Then it inspired me to come up with Lion King themes: Hakuna Matata Can you feel the love (or even just Feel the Love - feel the love tonight is too long) Circle of life Nala's Pride Nala's gift (nala means gift in swahili) Perfect Harmony (from the chorus of 'Can you feel the love tonight') Lion Sleeps Tonight What do you think? Any other suggestions?

They asked us to choose a name. Hence my asking. We are keeping the kennel name. We just need to choose the next bit.

On top of that they support impulse buying of animals. I have a friend who is constantly adopting the unwanted 'retuned' puppies from pet shops because people buy them, then realise they can't look after them and return them. Also, to a pet shop owner, a dog is stock, it is profit. So at the end of the day they are there to make them money. And they always look so sad in those little cages :D The thought of my puppies being in a cage like that for so long makes me sick

We just got our first show dog. Very exciting! She is a Dogue de Bordeaux. We have never given a dog a pedrigree name before and were wanting some ideas. We will be calling her Nala as her everyday name. Thanks :D
