  1. Because it can show how good a pedigree is? What's the point of a "good" pedigree when they are no longer able to contribute to the gene pool ? Because information can still be gathered such as consistent type from the sire. It would help to promote lines and families. But we're not seeing anything new, just recycled champions ETA: neuters should have been left as a sweep stakes. True, at the moment but if the registration system was changed, say... add a registration category where a dog could be shown but have no progeny registered, then breeders would be more likely to give a newbie a start in the showring. It would be a slow process over a few years but something needs to be done to revive the sport.

  3. What about all those people with their limit rego dogs attempting obedience, rally etc. There are plenty of people who go to obedience classes every week, who might only ever get to Novice level but they'd love to have a go at something formal. I bet many of those purebreds are on LR. Having a go at showing is something many of them could do. I know the dogs were put on LR for a reason, but there is a wide variety of MR quality. I'd say most breeders use the LR more to stop their bloodlines being taken out of their hands. If these people got hooked on showing then their next puppy purchase most likely will be a show quality, entire dog. Numbers then might start to incline then. I think the same for breed clubs embracing and seeking membership from BYB buyers (who knew no better), building numbers, offering support, then I can bet where their next puppy purchase occurs. But that's another subject...
  4. Why don't you like harnesses? Because in the closed in environment of the waiting room a harness doesn't give the owners control of where the dogs head is at. Its much easier to walk past another dogs rear end than it is to walk past a hyperactive, lunging, 'in your face' dog in a harness. I like to use the car harness because I can hold the tab on top which the seatbelt goes through and it gives much better control than just a lead. Since I am holding the tab her head can't really get more than 20cm away from me and she definitely can't lunge. What type of restraint are you talking about for one which can control where the head is at? A crate is the only way I know of and there is no way I could carry mine in a crate. Your at least holding the tab on the harness. The bulk of the harnesses I see used, are by people who, while they might shorten the lead, still have very little control of where their dogs head is actually at.
  5. IMO Limit Reg is for dogs which are not show quality so no, I definitely wouldn't be a fan of that! We have enough judges who honestly have little or no idea of the finer points of many breeds - filling neuter classes up with dogs which don't conform to the breed standard in major ways isn't going to help anyone. I agree, it was never the purpose of the limit register to then allow the dogs to be shown. I'm more suggesting a reason why neuter classes are not taking off. The bulk of the potential participants have LR dogs
  6. Most of the newbies who havent been showing potentially have dogs on the limited register. If they wanted to show from the beginning the breeder most likely would have given them a mains register. I wonder if neuter classes were open to LR then numbers might increase - along with getting the message to people outside the show world that they can participate in a dog show I'd be happy to see more neutered dogs, just more dogs in general so I can see the finer details of different lines. I can still learn alot about the different kennels from seeing neuters.

  8. The reason I'm asking, as I've previously discussed getting her scored with my vet, is a comment he made. I don't advocate being slack and time getting away from me, but when he asks what scores do I want, with a chuckle and a 'huh?' from me it's got me thinking. He says they have found using different pre meds and induction agents for the xrays alters the way the hips sit in the socket due to full or partial relaxation of the ligaments. Hence me wondering if pregnancy hormones could influence it as well. Janba, your lucky in Border Collies that there are a large number of breeders breeding and selecting for genuine performance. I don't have that luxury in my breed, so I have to gamble more than a BC breeder. Hence why I've looked o/s to help me achieve what I want to.
  9. For a number of reasons, the stud is 0:0, 0:0, he isn't being stood at stud any longer due to age and it's a bloodline that deserves to be preserved. I'm comfortable with my decision. I'd still use my bitch even if she comes back only rated as fair, as her trainability and temperament are second to none. I have a list of people as long as your arm for people wanting a pup from her who are aware she isn't scored yet. I'm importing semen for her second and last litter, and I will find out her scores before that. I'm just wondering if as their ligaments loosen for whelping that would affect the joint and the subsequent reading?
  10. Hi Guys, I know that a bitches joints etc need time to firm back up again after whelping as the pelvis ect opens up for ease of birthing. Do you think getting a hip score could give a true indication if she was to be done as soon as her pups were weaned?
  11. Talking to a detective friend last night he didn't believe me that the RSPCA appears to have more power than they do, even in child protection matters
  12. Ironic thing is on that same road the inspectors would have driven right past genuine abuse cases that they have chosen to ignore all reports from neighbors.
  13. An Aust Cattle Dog which has been bred for temperament. Play style will match the Dobes, will bond and give its all to her, lots of sensible drive without silliness. She won't need to be the motivator, a tennis ball is all that's needed. An overlooked breed because of the behavior people often witness at shows, but a good one is a once in a lifetime dog
  14. Wow, those horses were living quite peacefully except for the occasional harassment from feral dogs.... Extensive hills, a large dam, shade and plenty of feed.
  15. There must still be quite alot if tension between Kim and the NSW police if the number of cars and police is any indication. I've seen the horses in question for over a year now, in the paddock across the road and whilst they were in paddock condition I would never say they were cruelty cases. Seems alot of wasted resources thrown at an ongoing, 3 way feud
  16. That was right across the road from a friends place, the horses don't look like the worst cases I've seen, many look quite healthy for paddock horses. They do have previous years colts still running in the paddocks so the breeding has been poorly managed. So many police cars during the day.
