  1. Jigsaw that is very true. Not all disabilities are visible
  2. Usually though a companion dog is only used around the home even if it is certified. assistance animals do have public access rights and handlers are given a identification card and the dogs are required to be wearing their vests or jackets that identifies them.
  3. Someone who has an accredited assistance dog does have the same rights as a guide dog. in Australia the vests usually have service dog written on it however I have seen some that have companion dog unfortunately Aust law isnt great at explaining assistance dog and companion dogs
  4. Supera i agree with that. my heaven will also be full of beautiful animals. Also agree with the comment of growing up to be like k9angel
  5. OMG Rach Hugs to you. I'm sooo sorry for your loss. Cookie Rest in Peace little one. May you be free of pain and remember you were loved by so many. To the people who inflicted such pain on a helpless animal. I hope Karma catches up with you one day. Cookie didn't deserve this treatment
  6. K9angel Hugs to you. I have become attached to Cookie without even meeting her at all. I think you need to do what you think is best. Trust your gut and your heart. If you want to keep fighting for her as you have seen improvement then get a second opinion. Please know that we will all support you whatever your decision is. I"m just so thankful that she felt some love in her life but I hope she continues to fight and get stronger.
  7. Crossing everything for little cookie.she will be a little star and remember you have shown her what love is unless the person who dumped her in that trolley

  11. Hi Staffyluv, I was going to suggest CDC. Jo is pretty good in getting back to people. I know when I first joined up she was really quick in responding to my emails and she also calls people back who leave messages.
  12. awww Cookie I"m so glad you are starting to do well and have at least known what love is. K9angel you are a true gem.
  13. oh my god K9angel. I don't understand people like that but I thank God that you are around. You and your son have the biggest hearts in the world. Sounds like when I found my girl. Although she was just bones and petrified. My vet thinks that someone tried to kill her in a bag or something but she is still with me and my vet is SOOO happy with her. He said she is perfect and she's no longer frightened of every sound, people etc. How has the little kitty going now? What did your vet say?
  14. Thanks i pm her. must find this gorgeous guy a much better home and owner
  15. Cool thanks. just helped rescue a beautiful staff today. the owner dumped the dog in the middle of my friends obedience class today. i really hope he gets bad karma for treating the dog the way he has. unfortunately her husband has some health issues so we are trying to find him a foster carer or home asap. he already has one obedience title and is one pass from his 2nd. he is a lovely purred staffy and the owner should be banned from owing any pets. it makes me so mad. some people don't deserve pets. We called Arf and Canberra pooch rescue etc but at least for tonight he has a place. what is Raelene username?
  16. Hi Everyone, Does anyone know if there is a Staffy Rescue in Canberra??
  17. Yeah that is what I have been doing with my girl. And my problem is if she is playing with other dogs she does come back to me. But if there is no other dogs and suddenly one comes in I lose her for a bit and then get her back again. Like by lose her I mean she goes over to say hi straight away even if I call her first. After she greets the dog she will come back to me but it's darn frusterating.
  18. Wow I think I"m going to try that Gel. I to have the same problem. I have blocked my fence with shadecloth put pot plants up on the side of the fence but may get some chicken wire and that gel. My neighbours decided to redo their garden and in doing that they put their dog run right up again my fence. Their dog just barks all day. Its a kelpie and is I guess quite bored. But now has got my dog into fence fighting occassionally which I don't like at all. She doesn't do it anywhere else. Drives me nuts though when I have her out the back so I haven't been putting her there. I too worry neighbours are going to think it's just my girl.
  19. Hmm maybe pippa is better off with you for a little bit longer. sounds very strange though
  20. Hmm that is a bit weird Staffluv. Did you try to ring them to see where they were?
  21. Yeah I don't feed other people's dogs at dog parks. Or anywhere for that matter. If I know the owner I will always ask but I don't just feed them. Iknow a few dogs at dog school that have allergies so I know it can be a real issue with giving someone else's dog a treat. I do have treats with me but that is only for my dog. The other week when I went to a dog park, there was this child holding some kind of maltese dog ( don't know where her parents were) and she was feeding all the dogs there. I just saw potential disaster thinking there could be a dog that is food aggressive and she was surrounded by dogs as she kept feeding them. One of the sillest things I had seen.
  22. Staffyluv, what techniques did the trainer give you for his recall?
  23. LabraDog is the NSW rescue that Amanda runs
  24. Labrador Rescue is based in the ACT but some dogs can be sent interstate to approved homes. Just hope onto www.rescuealabrador.com and fill out the questionnaire
