  1. Yeah we have Charlie at the moment. We have had him in the past but has been a few rotations since we last saw him. I don't remember him having any issues with him last time though . I guess we'll continue with the basics with somethings as I'd hate to miss what Charlie has to offer, he has added some Rally-O training to the session to help tighten up turn and I'm enjoying it a lot more then the usual heel work up and down the field .
  2. Tonight at training we have gotten a new instructor for the term. The new instructor is a male and my dog seems to lose confidence/become scared around him. It seemed to go a bit downhill with our stand for exams at the beginning of the night. We have mostly trained with female instructors and were at stage with our stand for exams where we were able to easily go 2-3 meters and return behind without any moving from the dog. Tonight as soon as he had been examined my dog would return himself to my side. When we had a few attempts of Jerry returning to my side I was told we should go back to starters with our stand for exams, I tried to explain maybe he isn't confident with other males and just sort of shuts down as we have had no issues with distance work for the past 2 terms. How can I try to build up his confidence if that is the problem when the only time I see this instructor is on a weekly basis. I thought maybe I should take this term off and see how we go training at home but then I would just be avoiding the situation and would love to continue training at class because this instructor has experience in trialling and judging and he adds more exciting mixes to the training sessions. If I did continue to go each week I just worry about taking steps backwards with our training or would it be a no issue aslong as we stick with it at home? I'm hoping this makes some sense to someone as I seem to struggle getting words from my head to the page .
  3. If you wish to try one of these just hold onto your receipt and keep the food in the bag/don't dispose of the bag. These type of foods come with a money back guarentee so just return it to your place of purchase after trialling for about 7 days for a full refund/exchange.
  4. I intially got one of these for car travel and now use during storms and am trialling it when at dog training to see if it helps keep my dog a bit more calmer around other dogs. My guy would wander around going back and forth to the door during storms and when I pop this on him he then comes and lays down and has a sleep . I haven't had much luck with in car use yet or at obedience.
  5. I've only just started to train more seriously fo trialling and one of the trainers has been giving me tips to help. My guy has really sloppy sits and drops he tends to sit diagonally and when he drops he always lays infront of me. I was told if I don't fix up his positioning I would end up losing points. At the time I started obedience I don't think I even knew about trialing so always rewarded any sits/stays even when slightly crocked . I will just have to work harder to fix him up but I know for my future dog Correct positioning will be something I work on from the beginning.
  6. Aww they look like there having a blast there. Love watching Elbie especially bouncing around in the water.
  7. Possible to pop them in seperate parts of the house or indoor and out? Or will they still try to get to each other.
  8. Sometimes you got to do what you got to do, even if you don't like it.
  9. I think the issue is most people listen and take advice on board. Not to be mean but you however don't seem to take advice given.
  10. She may not see going outside as a punishment. It could be like sending a child to there room when there naughty. Does she find toys to play with when she goes out, does she interact with the other dogs? As Weasels said, I'd be consulting a behaviourist/trainer as soon as possible. I also would not be putting anything on the cats as they may see it as punishment when they have not done anything wrong. ETA; Have you tried what TW had suggested, baby gates? Something like this I would only use as a temporary solution in your case though.
  11. Something like Intercepter covers intestinal and heartworm and comes as a chewable treat.
  12. Something like Frontline and Advantix will help with ticks. There both spot on treatments such as your Advocate or you can also get the frontline in a spray.
  13. if you plan to use it for the dogs entire life be sure it will be big enough for you pup when he is fully grown. I made that mistake with my crate.
  14. The only no go zone is the couch. As a pup he was only allowed in the family room unsupervised as it had the least amount of things he could destroy or hurt himself with. Now he is older he roams where he pleases but normally just goes wherever the most people are.
  15. I got my guy a crate when he was a pup because he hated being locked into the laundry at night times. I attempted to have him sleep in my room but found he would just want to play or do his own thing instead of sleeping. When I would pop him in the crate for sleeping he took a few mins before he settled down as oppossed to an hour or two. If you get your pup use to a crate from an early age it can make things a bit easier later on. Especially handy if the dog gets desexed or an injury requiring limited movement. Also good for the dog to have its own little "den" it can escape to when it just wants to get away from it all .
  16. Were there previously other dogs in the house? Could he possibly smell there scent and be marking.
  17. I dont see anyone saying its alright if there dogs were to kill a cat that wondered into their yard. Dog owners cant watch their dogs 24/7 to ensure cats arnt killed on their property.
  18. Being hit by a car, eating something possibly toxic, getting lost, wandering in fear after being scared by other animals/people doesn't sound like a good quality of life to me . Some people don't understand being a responsible owner isn't about locking your cat inside it's whole life. People have mentioned you can get cat runs/enclosures in your yard to allow them to experience sounds and smells of the outside world. You can also get harnesses for your cat so if you truely want them to wander, take them for a walk as you would a dog. My sisters cat is quite happy to wander the yard on a long lead and harness then sits at the door meowing when she wants back in.
  19. I'd have my doubts something like this would work. As far as i'm aware there is already vests/sashes that working dogs wear and sometimes they don't have any effect.
  20. I don't feed my guy kelp but we have some at work I can test tomorrow if no one is able to tell you.
  21. I guess it depends on the groomers, but we have a local groomer who will do nails for $10.
  22. Are you able to just play with his paws whilst playing or when he's relaxed or are you just trying to play with them when you have clippers in your hand?
  23. Poor Heidi. I hope they can get the support they need to save her. If only people would learn to ask before approaching strange dogs wanting to pat them. Poor dog does nothing wrong and may pay for it with her life .
