  1. Fingers crossed reggie is found safe and returns home soon. Even if you live outside of town it wouldnt hurt to pop signs up in town just incase Someone found him and took him back into town with them.
  2. I believe Interceptor Spectrum is one of the only ones out there that covers Intestinal/Heartworm together. Others that control both also control fleas. You have Sentinal, Advocate and possibly revolution? Can't recall if Revolution controls intestinal or not. If you go two seperate treatments you can cover your intestinals with Drontal, Milbemax or I use Endogard on my dog. You can then give a seperate Heartworm with Valueheart, Proheart or Heartguard Plus. From memory the only products that don't treat all intestinal worms are some which control fleas. They they may not include tapeworm coverage.
  3. Capstar should be helping with fleas your dog currently has, but unless you've also used a product to help repell or treated as much fleas as possible in the environment then the fleas will just return. As for topic treatments, they are generally recommened to be applied 24-48 hours before or after washing the dog/cat as the product does not spread over the dogs body properly because the wash has just removed a lot of the oils from the coat.
  4. I've met a few people who use Advantix on there dogs, and own cats. I guess you can get away with using it but it really depends how cosy your dogs and cats are together whilst the product is still wet on the dog.
  5. Maybe something like an in store demonstrator? Not a job that deals directly with dogs but you do get to hear some interesting stories, help owners with some issues they may be having with there dogs and even get to meet dogs on the odd occassion.
  6. Just wanted to say that iggie is so adorable in his little jacket :) .
  7. Wash out all his bedding, if he sleeps in your bed or anything wash all the sheets too. You can also vaccuum the house to pick up any fleas and eggs from the carpet, if that doesn't help then I'd consider using flea bombs, I've also heard of people using those mortein plug in things (like an air freshner?) they don't specify that they do fleas but some people have said they have used them with success. For outdoors if you have long grass, try keep that as short as you can so it gets more sunlight throughout it and stays drier, as for chemicals, I'm not familiar with any so wouldn't be confident in reccommending something that would be safe for use around animals. When you say you bathe him regulary, do you do it around the time you apply the frontline? You can get a product called capstar which is a 24hour fast actng tablet which kills adult fleas, you can use that in conjunction with frontline or if you are finding frontline ineffective you can use advantage or advantix (advantix is toxic to cats whilst wet so you need to be careful if you own cats and the dog is pretty cosy with them). ETA; With the fumigator option, I'm fairly certain you would need to find somewhere for the dog to go as not even humans can be within the house at time of fumigation.
  8. Found a pamphlet at work for 'Paw Bearers' not Someone i would highly recommend based on first impressions but another cremation place to look at if you really want to.
  9. If all goes to plan we hope to be doing the CCD on the 21st of April . If I miss out then I will probably still pop down and see some trials so just might see you :).
  10. Thanks for the advise and offers of help guys :). Forms were sent off today so just got to wait for them to be approved or whatever the process is then once I get a membership number I can register my dogs as an associate. KtB; The guy I spoke to from Dogs ACT, informed me to what discipline was so I got that part all sorted . Wish I had got my guy registered well in advance like you did, I had been meaning to do it for about half a year or so now and it just become a "I'll do it in a few days" kind of thing and well now look where thats got me, having to rush everything in hopes of entering a trial next month . Cleo; I don't know how many of the guys at TDTC are involved in trialling but I've been lucky enough to get into the same classes with atleast 2 instructors who currently trial there dogs :).
  11. Tell that to people who let there kids run a muck in store ripping whatever they please off the shelves then chucking it where when they see a more exciting toy. Or to the customers who are clearly to lazy to place a toy back on a hook and chuck it in a bottom basket. Sure it only takes 2 seconds for a staff member to pick a toy up off the ground where dogs can't reach them, but sometimes it's just not possible unless you hire someone to specifically ignore customers in a busy shop who just patrol the isles picking up dropped items, then there would be something else to complain about . I imagine that bigger companies wouldn't have a policy that forces a customer to purchase something there dog has pick up as there not willing to run the risk of losing customers for a toy which probably only costs them $10. I know the company I work for has no policies about this as it's a risk they run with allowing leashed animals into the store. My store, dogs with toys in their mouths hasn't been an issue as we only really get two regulars whose dogs pick their own toys and these guys always purchase what there dogs choose. Slightly OT; That is something that really annoys me and oftens makes me dislike leashed pets welcome in our store. I have no issues if a dog pees somewhere, it's why we have cleaning equipment. But when you clearly see a dog peeing somewhere and the owner turns to see the dog doing it and they walk off else where without even letting a staff member know that's what really gets me angry.
  12. Thanks Sheena, I think I've read that page on your site in the past . I spoke to someone yesterday about forms and such and he pointed me in the directions I needed to go. Now all I need to do is send them off Monday and wait :).
  13. I attend Tuggeranong Obedience. The current instructor was going to email me forms and imformation before he went on holidays but looks like he didn't get a chance too. As I won't be able to attend training next week I would have to wait 2 weeks until I can go speak to an instructor which would mean I would then be filling everything in with a week before entrys close.
  14. Hi guys, I am finally starting to get things in order to begin trialling with my dog. I have been told I need to go to the Dogs ACT website and because a member. I have started my application form and come across a few hurdles and the office is closed for the day so am unable to give them a call . After I put in my dogs breed it asks "Discipline" now I have no idea what that question is in regards to, anyone able to shed some light on it? How do I let them know which registry my dog would go on? Is this something that would be asked after filling out this first form? Then I come to the pricing list, unless I'm filling in the wrong form there is no form to put my credit card details into. Is this something I would get a call about after they recieve my registration form or get something in the mail to fill out? Then I come to the part about actually entering a trial. How do I get an entry form? I looked under the events calender clicked on the trial I would like to enter but can't see any type of entry form? It opens a new link which shows me the time it starts, entry cost and who the judges will be. Thanks guys :).
  15. What is the toy? Kongs Air Squeaker Estimated Price? $4.00 - $10.00 Where did you buy it? Place I work, but it's available online too. How tough was it and how long did it last? My dog loves these types of balls. Normal tennis balls don't even last a day as he bites down on them too much they eventually pop and if they don't pop he rips them apart . They have lasted for close to a year from memory, there still going strong, still squeak only downside is when he plays with them for more then 5minutes he soaks them with saliva and they get covered in dirt or baby powder depedning where he wants to play . How much time does your dog spend playing with it. Just about every waking hour of the day. As soon as someone gets home he says hi, then bolts off to find the ball, if you won't throw it for him he's happy enough to just lay there squeaking it in his mouth . ETA; link.
  16. Could you use seat covers for your rear seats the use your hammock to protect the back of your front seats? Either let hammock drape to the floor or tuck it into yhe seat covers. That is of course if you do have front headrests.
  17. had a 16year old golden retriever X kelpie put to sleep last year due to body deteriation.
  18. I was just trying to make a point about someone judging others for something they did without knowing the whole story. Much like the police officer in the video.
  19. If you are so worried about there "quality of life" perhaps you should contact proper authourities and let them determine the situation. Maybe there front gate is broken, maybe the dogs are escapees, perhaps they don't have the money to afford better fencing or too build a dog run, as I said they may have there reasons and just because you disagree with them, doesn't mean it's the wrong way of doing something.
  20. How can you judge there quality of life as you don't know them. Are you watching them 24/7 too be able to make a call on there quality of life or do you just happen to see them on a chain as you go past? There are reasons why some people use chains on there dogs.
  21. I'm sure if the dogs left the backyard and attacked a child whilst the police officer waited for someone else to come deal with the situation, a lot of peoples opinions would of suddenly changed to "why the police officer did nothing".
  22. There was a thread Here about fly products which can help repel and help treat current bites on your dog. Maybe give that a quick read and see which products are available to you .
  23. Thanks Erny. We will see how we go next week and see if we can cut out the stands for now and give the casual interactions ago instead.
  24. He seems fine around most other males. There is another male instructor we usually run into before or after class and he has no issues trying to get pats from him. He is fine around males who visit the house wether there strangers or someone familiar but I guess he is more at ease since we're at home. Around the current instructor he doesn't seem to pay much attention to him, he doesn't try to get pats whenever possible as he does with anyone else. During the stands his tail tends to drop and wag and he licks his lips as he is approached. The instructor has seen he is that comfortable so comes in a lot slower, more direct rather then from the side and gives a give pat before moving back, but as soon as he backs off my dogs returned beside me even when I'm standing nose to knees. When I got him I don't know what sort of socialisation he had recieved and from reading posts here I believe I also missed a crucial stage as he was around 4-5months old. The only other person I've really seen him sort of shut down with is a behaviorist I had come see us. Could my dog possibly percieve the new instructor as being similar to the behaviorist? They do have some similarities in appearance.
