  1. I wouldn't be putting the dog in a kennel. I would be searching for a qualified behaviourist and work through your dogs issues with them.
  2. I think so. You could allergy test any dog and it would show allergies as far as I am aware.
  3. He's currently on a 100% chicken diet LOL
  4. Update! We have the blood test allergy results in. If you'd like to talk more about our results compared to results you've had with your dogs pls feel free to touch base. We'll also be doing the new American test in the future when I have more $$$ and cross reference the results as this test we've just done is apprantely known to be a little faulty and give false positives.
  5. Maybe next time you post you can state the website where you copy and pasted the above from as a reference. With Google you can go and get any information you want that supports any theory you have.
  6. Contray to popular belief, a dog can be fed on a Vegetarian diet. I'm not a Vegetarian but I did put my dog on the Royal Canin Exculsive protein kibble for a while due to allergy issues, he was absolutely fine. Here's some info on the product that people maybe interested in: * This product was developed for sensitive dogs with food intolerance. * Whether the amino acids come from animal or vegetable protein, the molecular structure is exactly the same. Dispite the fact that the dog is naturally carnivrous, the indentical nutritional content of vegetable and animal proteins means that perfectly adapted foods can be developed. * 100% Vegetable protein - The exclusive diet limits the risks of food intolerance which can be expressed by both digestive & skin signs (diarrhoea..., itching...).
  7. I have to remember not to say it to other peoples adult dogs as the Owners look at you strangely LOL
  8. Yeah totally with you. I take praise for urinating in the correct area as a given as I can't help myself, even for adults I say "Good Toilet".
  9. Is he in new territory? Have their been any changes to the environment? New dogs, new people? When I mentioned repremands, I didn't mean a verbal one. I meant give the dog a reason not to do it again. You could have the dog on lead at all times and repremand it via the collar for marking inside if you wanted to take the more soft appraoch. There is also a product called a Belly Band for entire dogs that may assist. I don't think excessive marking is a health concern for the dog.
  10. May be flamed for this but I'd give him a reason not mark inside. When we moved house Dante lifted his leg inside, he was corrected and didn't do it again inside.
  11. I agree! Been a life saver the night before a big show on one or two occassions as well. Why do dogs always have to have an ooopsay daisy the day before a big show!
  12. Update: Well we await the 2nd round Blood Allergy testing to come back hopefully on Friday. Anti-biotics have cleaned the neck up quite a bit, we finish those in 4 days, think he may need to go on them for a wee bit longer though. Down from 3 Cortisone to 1 every 2nd day in the space of 2 weeks. Pasterns and Hocks quite Red today but no itching yet *cross fingers* Zinc & Vit E supplements each day now, started that 2 weeks ago. 3 weeks into a fully raw diet, hoping to start seeing the results of that in the coming 3-4 weeks, although stools are brilliant. Also 2 Deserts spoons of Yoghurt each night which we started 3 weeks ago.
  13. I just did the same thing and noticed on the drive up to the show
  14. We use: Laser Lites http://www.laserlites.com.au/c41a.shtml 1) Dab on to affected area 5 minutes before bath 2) Include in the shampoo You can also use overnight, I think it has 4 different methods listed. We then use the Pure Glow White Horse Shampoo, leave on I think for 10 minutes, making sure you get a lather going. On show day, we use loose chalk with a chalk brush and a chalk block going against the growth of the hair, then brush out so it doesn't come off on the Judges hands or clothing but leaves enough in there to do its' job. Different people have different opinions about using chalk pre-show, so not making judgements here, just letting you know what we personaly do.
  15. We use: Peter Schofield Berkshire Park 0411 353 130 Been using him since Dante was about 4 months old, he's very gentle, dog lover and knows his stuff. He's Canine Muscle Manipulation, he doesn't crack bones. Has put Dante's back back into place very quickly and without fuss many a time. I think we pay around $20.
  16. There is an underwater treadmill in Sydney: http://sydneyanimalphysiotherapy.com
  17. What you have described could also be a staph infection/secondary skin infection which could have come about from having an initial allergic reaction. What they call Bronzing Sydrome in Dallies is also seen in other breeds but simply referred so as an infected folicle. The Pyohex should sort it out if it's bacterial. We use the Pyrohex leave on cream to spot treat areas, sometimes it works other times it doesn't. With the large amount of rain we have had there are higher levels of fungi in the soil so that can also create issues.
  18. I haven't read anything to indicate that Dalmatian Bronzing Syndrome has anything to do with protein levels.
  19. Sas where did your vet send the blood test to? Even the things my dog isnt allergic to had a score with the lowest being 103. They state anything between 0 - 149 is a negative result. Did your vet show you a copy of the results? If your vet is saying they want to take more blood and send it somewhere different I'd be a bit supsicious, hope they dont charge you for that extra test. You could also try washing the affected area twice a week in Malaseb, I think it helped my girl a lot, just make sure you rinse thoroughly as it can actually iritate if left on. Another topical treatment I found is pure emu oil, wont do any harm and might actually help:) I use it on the inside flaps of her ears if they get dry and itchy, works a treat. Nope, didn't charge us a thing for a second test. No idea where they sent the 1st one too. Yep I have a copy.....mmm somewhere LOL It was for a reading out of 3. Malaseb doesn't agree with Dante sometimes, it makes the area inflamed and red.
  20. My dogs are inside dogs. I have floorboards but they're already buggered from the previous tenants dogs. Your dog could wear socks or booties inside to protect the floor boards. Grooming everyday can help with the shedding, however if you have floor boards it's a pretty easy clean up. If she doesn't know how to act inside just teach her what is appropriate, you can tether her inside on a bed and teach her that when she's inside she needs to stay in a certain area. Of course using lot's of calm praise when she's doing well. I have baby gates in my house, they're pretty use full. Crate Training is great too, you can have your girl inside to sleep in a crate at night.
  21. Anyone here bike with dogs that normally get way over excited when seeing other dogs? I have this fear of being pulled off the bike LOL
  22. Well your comments certainly don't apply to my girls. My bitches show very well when they're in season, they're very cocky and full of themselves and fly around the ring, they don't feel 'off-color' at all. And as for taking them to shows being risky for their health my vet assures me that bitches in season are at no more risk of infection when they're in season than at any other time. I've been taking bitches in season to shows for over 30 years and none of them have ever contracted an infection. If you're careful and considerate of other exhibitors and the bitches enjoy it, there's absolutely no reason why bitches in season cannot be shown. I certainly agree that in season bitches shouldn't be at obedience trials etc., but IMO it is perfectly ok to take them to shows. I'm more than happy for bitches in season too be in the show ring, perks my boy up and gets him moving nicely whereas at other times he can be lazy, he's only young but knows a bitch in season and works his stuff well in the ring when he sniffs one out. It may be a completely different story once he's more mature but right now, he's not a problem with the inseason bitches.......entire males however, he's just starting to feel it oats so to speak. I've heard many people trying to mask the smell with vicks and so forth - I guess it's a bit of trial and error.
  23. I'm still struggling with Dante getting used to the front wheel, he just doesn't seem to understand the concept!
