hahahaha your Labrador is probablt a lot smarter than me when it comes to navagating.....how do you actually know which way to hold the map up? Now that's what confuses me.....and if you're lost, how does a map actualy help you find out where in earth you are? lol Take me back to my safe little NZ with our safe little round a bouts and no needs for maps LOL

We'ved tried it as well, the dogs get it for breakfast and they seem to love it and the ingrediants don't seem too bad compared to te dreaded can food.
-
100% coming, if I can get a lift with the kind DOL member that's wicked, if that doesn't pan out I'll take a train as far as it will take me and then get a cab.
-
Won't be using that then.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'd love to have him off the halti, at this stage I am using it as he weighs more than I do and I have only had him for a month and prior to this he had no training....I've pretty much lost control of him on collar/check chain when he gets a step in front of me no matter how hard I try to not let him get that one step ahead. He's not a great fan of the halter but 'copes' with it, I give him treats and pats when I put it on, he walks with it fine but when we stop at the park to do training he'll throw himself on the ground. We try and do the walk back home on the check chain, sometimes it all works out and other times it doesn't. At this stage the control I have over him with a check chain isn't great enough with his current behviour issue. Without a doubt he has got better over the month, he's learnt hand and voice commands for everything else, it's the heel we continue to have problems with and the one thing I think I truely suck at teaching.

I had a look at the train map and can't see the suburb, anyone know if there are trains out there or is anyone near Carlingford I could come along with? Just me, no dog.
-
mmmm interested to see a pic and I'll run it past the behaviourist.
-
We're working with a behaviourist at the moment so we hope to see some changes. Thank you for the suggestion.
-
We're actualy using the BlackDog Halter, the way it's designed wouldn't really allow for padding but thank you very much for the suggestion.
-
Sorry, I think you took me the wrong way, I wouldn't put it on him if it was uncomfortable for him, but I would keep him out of training rather than put a wire cage muzzle on him. We are working through his behaviour issues at this stage, so we hope to return to training in time, however if a muzzle was suitable I would give that a go. Perceptions about breeds is actualy very important to me, especialy being the owner of a large breed dog.
-
I know this sounds bad but a great dane with a muzzle on looks bad enough as it is, giving people the wrong preception seeing a dane with a wire cage muzzle. I had pulled him out of training as it is as I didn't want people getting the wrong perception about his breed. He doesn't actually pant during training?
-
This muzzle's description says the dog can still eat and drink with it in, in that case then couldn't it bite as well or nip? Anyone use one of these? I'd like to be able to take Turbo back to training, only prob is I use a head halter at this stage, don't think you can use a head halter and a muzzle at the same time? Link to muzzle

Book me in, just me, not bringing Turbo. Have e-mailed Steve to confirm as he asked me about it today.
-
No they were really supportive, I pulled him out myself, I didn't want people to see a Dane doing this and thinking this was typical of the breed, my female dane goes to the same club and is an absolute darling but he's much bigger than her and has this big square head and can look intimidating to people. The club explains to people who attend the coloured collar system i.e a green knitted collar means the dog is aggressive and needs to be given space, however just after saying this, a woman let her hyper active dog in Turbo's face and he snapped and then she moved as far as she could possibly get away from us, I went red, I felt awlful but was really annoyed at her stupidity. A gentleman in my class was really nice and supportive but the cow just made me feel awlful. My trainer was really supportive and gave me lot's of advise because Turbo also throws tissy fits....he'll throw himself on the ground like a 2 year old in the supermarket.

Yes, the lady seemed nice, I have had DogTech out when we first got Leila and totaly dispised them, Complete Canines had some similar methods. It's kind of a ctach 22, you want to socialise but you can't becaus eyou can't risk injuring someones dog. Yes I would love to come out to a seminar. Turbo is a smart boy and will do well at obiedance and I had to pull him out of training club because of this issue.
-
A company called Complete Canines, heard of them? They don't actually service our area but I was able to get them to come out and see us. We also go out to see Steve at K9 on the 22nd of October.

Our new boy isn't selective with his aggression, it's just to whatever dog is close to him which is such a shame because in all other aspects he's a good well behaved dog *sigh* Today he had his grumpest day since we got him, he went for mum and dads dog twice (they were wandering around all content and then bang!) then came home and had a go at Leila, god knows what's up his ass! Thankfully no damage done except for some shaky hands especialy from my mother! He was desexed about a month ago, I hoping this may assist and we have just starting working with a behaviourist. Thing is Turbo sometimes gives some very obvious signals and other times they are very subtle and I completely miss them. The Behaviourist has us working on Leadership but we're yet to see whether the aggression is dominant or fear based, my predication is that it is dominant based or something closely related. Before I got him he was in a pack of 2 other dogs and only recieved one hour of human interaction a day, I'm not sure whether this has an impact on his behaviour now.
-
Leila did the exact same thing to me the other night for the first time, I took it as my fault, she was fast asleep and I walked past and patted her head and I htink I gave her a bit of a fright, not that I feel it's acceptable behaviour. After you see the vet, you may want to do some additional training with pooch such as no sleeping on the sofa for a while, if aggression is starting to arise you might want to meet with a behaviourist so you can knock it on the head pretty fast.
-
mmm we use Missing Link, anyone else use it?
-
I'm not doing for it qualification but with previous courses that I do want accreditation/qualification for I do check it out very carefully.
-
*puts hand up* I just got my training materials today, I thought it would be a good starting course, I'm just doing it to further my own knowledge for training with my own pooches.
-
If I wouldn't eat it, I wouldn't give it to my dog.
-
My guys have it and are fine, agreed with a prevous post, the injection in concern in the states is different to the one administered here.
-
If it's a tick and you don't know which one, best to get to your vet pronto! If it's a paralysis tick and you don't get to the vet asap you may not have a very good situation.
-
I'm in Sydney and would be kean to give it a go, the only thing is that it is 23% fat, do you guys see that as being a good thing or a bad thing? *little confused*
