  1. eeeek @ Bark Busters......the probably most inappriopriate way to handle an aggressive dog! Contact Steve @ K9 Force he may be able to reccomend a trainer/behaviorist in your area. www.k9force.net
  2. This thread has weirded me out, the topic is EMERGENCY HELP!!! ummmm go to the vet!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know why that wouldn't be the first thing you would do??? Anyway, glad pooch is ok for now. "My dog is bleeding from the head.....what should I do?"
  3. If OH isn't working we'll pop by to give Xander some more experience under his belt and if the black staffy owner doesn't mind....Leila will be more than happy to run after your little one the whole time LOL....actually the wee staffy could be a good weight loss program for her LOL J/k I won't let her annoy him too much.
  4. Wonder if you've got a dodgy packet? We've been using it for about 2 years and never had a problem. I do however know a dog that gets fleas on any product. The fleas seem to be a bit crazy at the moment though.
  5. Why should he just accept it? He did nothing wrong, the prong collar is not illegal in NSW.
  6. hahahaha I an so red....I never learn!!!! Oh yes panic at the disco.....it was just meant to be hehehe Yeah Parammatta eels suck...well so my dad said when I asked hahaha I was shattered in the evening, but what a brilliant day!

    Goodbye Cass

So sorry to hear about Cass, she sounds as though she was your soul dog. Another Angel you know watching over you. Bless her xxx
  8. A Sad but beautiful story. Your lovely baby has an Angel watching RIP sweet one
  9. Gillian.....I promise you pooch will be walking on a loose lead and you will be able to safely walk and have his attention I know it's stressful with a pushy giant breed, don't stress about not walking him for now, he'll be fine
  10. I'm coming as a speccie but I'll be leaving Leila at home in 'sofa drive'
  11. Steve will sort you out, he's worked with one of my Danes before who was a shocker on the lead and had him walking like a gentlemen in 10 minutes. Danes can be a bit aloof, have no fear Steve will help you out.
  12. I think in terms of ingrediants ProPlan is probably the best I've seen. In terms of finding the right match for your dog I think Royal is the way to go. They all have their pros and cons, you n eed to first think of what you are trying to achieve and then go from there
  13. I've got a problem in reverse so to speak.....what club will allow you to use a prong collar *sigh* You don't have to use the choker chain if you don't want to and I'd give the 'bird' to a club that didn't let you use treats!
  14. A behaviourist advised us that if we were in the situation where we simply couldn't eat before the dog (or if you don't want to) then grab a biscuit and have the dog sit whilst you're prearing the food and then eat a biscuit in front of them...nice and slowly, tell them they're good when they are and then once you have finished you then give the dogs their dinner, seems to work fine for us. We don't do it all the time, I guess we just judge what foster dogs we feel need it. I'm not sure the whole eat before your dog is really that important.
  15. beautiful!!!! She keeps her hand up by her chest is that because she trains with a treat? Loved seeing Rexy too!
  16. hehehe yeah I know all about wide necks! Focus is the name of the game, have you tried out any focus techniques at home?
  17. I'd report them to Fair Trading and/or the ACCC because obviously it was not positive training as they stated.
  18. you could always put the rubber comfort tips on it. There are some obediance trialers around so I'm sure someone will pop in and give you plenty of advice ;)
  19. I train heel with a prong collar, other people don't. A beautiful heel like the one you mentioned can take a while to master. Have you attended your local training club? A dog with a good drive is a great thing! I would be getting in touch with Steve @ K9 Force www.k9force.net and reading some of his training articles on his website.
  20. I'm noted with the ability to make a skinny dogs fat hehehehe With skinny dogs we feed numerous small meal such as chicken frames, wings, necks etc Also feed barf patties and a high quality kibble. I stay away from Supercoat as it's upset the tummies of any dog I have tried it with.....poo through an eye of a needle type upset tummy. I am a true animal lover and I think Iams/Eukanuba products are very good, I would not choose an inferior product because of the publicity they have recieved in recent years (not that I agree with it, but this shouldn't be a political topic), so I don't appreciate that notion Zorro, I think you'll find a great deal of people on this forum use these products because they are of a high quality.
  21. I'm with Sid, I've had a dog that was diciplined when he growed and then when I got him he would show no obvious sign and just launch an attack, it took quite some time before he started giving warnings again. I'd probably be more inclined to see a behaviourist
  22. This is an interesting thread, if I can just go in another direction briefly.... If you were to take up a position as a volunteer trainer at a club....all the trainers seem to follow one training method....what if you disagree or feel that you have a more effective method?
  23. If the dog already knows how to heel and will heel when given the command I let them walk ahead and have a sniff.
