  1. I use Squirt coconut shampoo and conditioner. Makes Bondi smell lovely and leaves her coat nice n shiney.
  2. With Bondi I use A clicker. She gets bored pretty easily so I have to use lots of motivation, and keep training short, intersesting and rewarding. she seems to work very well if she knows there will be a toy at the end. Bondi is pretty submissive, so when shes in a new environment I use LOTS of rewards and ALOT of verbal praise. I can never tighten the lead, because that makes her nervous when around other dogs and results in her lunging. So a check chain would be a BIG no-no. 100% positive motivational training for my girl Barkly my sisters dog, get negative punishment and positive reinforcement from my sister. He is a dog aggressive dog, and possibly people aggresive depending on the situation. I don't think that the method she uses is the correct training method for Barkly. I think she should try to prevent him from noticing the other dogs by getting him to do things (eye contact, sits etc.) instead of just letting him "go off" and then punish him for it. He really loves food and LOVES to please! He has alot of potential with the right training.
  3. Perth dog obedience and training club. At vic park. I go their. they have a website just do a search...sorry i cant find the link
  4. I go for Hyperactive dog. I perfer enthusiasm! I have a hyper dog with issues (Bondi) and a laid back lazy dog with bigger issues (Barkly) although his issues probably wouldn't be bigger than Bondis if he got as much training and attention as Bondi does.
  5. Bondi is the open the cupboard door to get her lead out for dog obedience trained, and she now actually knows the time we go, so she starts whining 15 minutes before we go
  6. Congradulations!!!!! :D still dreaming of the day Bondi gets her title....... :D
  7. Clicker training is great! Really helped me build Bondi's confidence, as I could re-enforce good behaviour at exactly the right time. She is definately alot more motivated since we've started clicker training, I guess it's because it concentrates on what your dog does right rather than what it does wrong. Definatley a good way to go Good Luck with your training! :D
  8. I don't think I have actually lost my temper, but I do get quite frusterated. I usually keep trying, but if Bondi is really playing up I will end the training session.
  9. Sorry, I do not believe my post before was very clear. I stated that positive dog training techniques CAN work on ALL dogs. I meant to say that if used correctly used, 100% positive techniques can work on all dogs, at some point during there lifetime. If a dog has been trained his whole life, it may be harder for the positive techniques to work and will take alot longer for the dog to grasp the concept than a puppy. However, if the same dog was trained from the start using 100% positive techniques it would have worked. I'm not saying that other training techniques don't work, I'm just saying that positive training does. Positive re-enforcement training doesn't mean that the dog doesn't get punished, They do! But the punishment isn't physical or verbal, they are simply ignored when acting inappropriately, or if that is un appropriate in a certain situation the dog is redirected into another more appropriate behavior. Also, in my beginning statement, I stated that positive only techniques can work for all DOGS, not all people. Even dogs who pull and are completely unleash trained, get excited when the lead comes out. So abit of pressure on their neck mustn't be too bad. Although, most positive trainers associate the leash with a good thing, and teach the dog not to pull from the start. A key with positive dog training (I think) is trying to prevent behavioral problems before they start. Anyway this is JMH, I have learnt about lots of different training methods and stuck with the one that works for me and my dogs.
  10. I believe that positive methods CAN work on ALL dogs, if used correctley. A GREAT book on positive dog treaining is "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Positive Dog Training" by Pam Dennison. It is probably the best and most informative book I have ever read. It is simple and explains the theory and science behind all the behaviors. It covers basically every aspect of dog training, and actually explains why positive dog training is better. It completely changes the way you think when training a dog (and actually makes you stop and think before just yelling or yanking the leash!!) I strongly suggest that anyone who is interested in dog training reads this book.
  11. She looks in good condition from what i can see in the pics. Can you feel her ribs?
  12. Buddy sounds alot like my sisters dog Barkly This may be a good idea, as long as there aren't alot of other dogs present (1 or 2 would be good to start with) and as long as the other dogs are friendly, but not push-overs.
  13. I suggest that you work on making your dog focus on you, useing LOTS of food and praise. Start with being a LONG way away from other dogs and very gradualy get closer as he focuses on you. It may be worthwile to teach the leave it command. Also putting tension around the dogs neck may make it respond worse to other dogs (because they associate the uncomfortable tension around the neck with the other dog.) So I would advise not to "pull" or "yank" the dog away from other dogs if he is dislaying any aggressive signs, but instead try to call him away. I need more info. on his body posture etc. to be able to sufficiantly help you. Also believe neutering would help, but thats JMO. Good luck
  14. Bondi and I are training in obedience, hopefully competing soon (but i won't hold my breath) and she likes learning new tricks, and has so far learnt: Bang (play dead) spin take a bow jump through hoop/ and over things teaching walk backwards atm wave shake dance beg and basic agility commands We will hopefully start agility nxt year. (but Bondi would probly do puppy zoomies around the agility coures.
