  1. I am roving around in "surveillance" mode at the moment BP. Looking for spots where I have to . Well, the rest of us have had to work overtime while you were away. Don't go away again...........
  2. If Norman was a dude he would have a blue blanket not a pink one! Very cute piccy. Your dogs must have thicker fur than mine cause mine are down lower. No training today cause it raining BP
  3. Just as well you're back. People have been raising merry hell in your absence BP
  4. Regarding your question on appropriate dicipline for your pup. I asked K9 Force this question for Bruno and he has posted a puppy development topic which discusses this. It was 5-9 months. Worthwhile reading. Puppy development calendar BP
  5. thank you so very much. like i said i have now found help else where, really appreciate your kind words. I am happy that the puppy has settled in and stopped growling . I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but this forum has really good moderators. The forum rules are listed near the top of the page. For future reference, if someone posts something like a personal attack that breaks the rules, go to the bottom on the post and hit the Report button. It is much better to do this than to respond to nasty comments. Troy will read the topic and remove offending responses and/or warn the posters. Good luck with your pup BP
  6. ash&elar, I'm sorry you have been picked on with regards to your age, sex and what has happened to you . I was going to post last night but was working. The rest of the posters, some of you are being ageist, sexist and elitist in your remarks ash&elar. This is not the place for personal attacks this is a dog help forum. My 2 cents worth BellasPerson
  7. I sit on the floor for cuddles so they never sit on the couch. I can still cuddle with my feet and I'm sure it's very good foot dexterity training
  8. This is what made the difference for my dogs. As soon as I fixed my body language and stress levels, the dogs started walking nicely. BP
  9. Except when the owner had a flat collar or a harness then hes used a choker. BP
  10. That's great . Much easier to fix if she doesn't growl at you. Great post leopuppy04 Dogdude, it will take quite a while to read the entire post but it's worth it. BP
  11. What will we do without Erny? I only just figured out he was a she.
  12. Go to the hairdresser and this is what happens . Thanks Haven I think i might have to start another thread just so they can argue . I already asked nicely guys..
  13. Ruby&Axle This is the post I read when I was trying to work out what to do about Bruno. Socialisation and Neutralisation BP
  14. I had a very similar problem with Bella who was attacked twice in the same fashion. She developed mild fear agression from these encounters. I agree with dogdude, by exposing her to other dogs off lead you are putting her under pressure not helping her to get over her fears. To get over her fears you need to introduce her to other dogs under controlled circumstances, eg, good, balanced dogs that you know. I went to see K9 Force to help fix this and I feel you need to get Ruby assessed professionally as well and work out a plan. I also agree with the advice of ignoring Ruby when she's stressed. Dogs don't think like human and they don't gain confidence from you comforing them. They gain confidence from doing things by themselves and some dogs don't like playing with other dogs. I brought Bruno up very differently from Bella. He has never been to an off lead park and never played with dogs except those of my friends. He is perfectly happy, well balanced and has not problems with meating dogs. Bella will always suffer from my not knowing all these things. If Ruby growls at another dog and then at you when you take the toy off her I would growl back. I would suggest taking the toys away at times and putting them in a box so they know that you own the toys. This should stop the growling at you. Good luck BellasPerson
  15. Poor Norman.. I was meaning to ask which ecollar device you use so I can compare working levels. The Innotek has 1-15 levels of stimulation and the Dogtra has 1-127 levels as is has much finer adjustments. My two are on level 10 on the dogtra which would be 1 on the innotek. At that level they twitch their ears when they are asleep like they're shooing off a fly. I tried it on the inside of my arm and I can barely feel 25 (2.5) and can feel 35 (3.5). I thought I would have to recharge the batteries every day as well but three days after the charge they are still showing no signs of going flat. Just curious BP
  16. Open letter to all readers / contributors of this topic Could you guys please please please please please have a group hug :p and then you can all go and fight somewhere else. I would really appreciate it. I find all this arguing counter productive. Thank you ;) BellasPerson PS and that includes arguing about who was arguing and who wasn't.....
  17. Hi Meriment What sort of a name is Norman - poor dog. I'm glad he's become velcro dog. My dogs do a drop stay in the bathroom while I'm getting ready for my walk or anytime it looks like a walk could happen any minute. We had a day off today being sunday and all. Bruno took a while to learn the recall to the left cause I've always recalled him to the front or the R side. He finally got it on day 3. He has no problem with the sit and switching between the two. He's only done one SAAD while we were out walking and he sat immediately where he was . He's such a good boy.. He has since done recall and sit under 2 levels of distraction. Bella breezed through an exercise a day and is on her third and fourth level of distraction for the first two exercises. Both dogs are really enjoying this and I have found onlead walking better. I recall them instead of correcting with their martingales. They also spend their time looking at me trying to work out what other wonderful things they could do for me. I haven't done any proofing yet except in the backyard. Can't wait for week 2. BP
  18. Some betadine will stop infections which could increase the scarring. You can use human stuff. I have a spray bottle which is in frequent use with two active dogs. This won't be the last scar you know Good luck BP
  19. Thanks BP. But please don't PM me ..... it won't go through. Email please :p . Erny, I can't figure it out I never had to get something off my foxter box before. Can you try Poodle wrangler first. I will keep my copy in the meantime in case it doesn't work. BP
  20. CM never mentions the prong as he promotes the choke collar instead. He does say that he uses whatever the owner is already using and what the dog responds to. One dog was wearing a harness which he swapped for a choker but any with prongs he leaves as they are. My secret is out --------------- I watch CM BP
  21. I'm not sure about long term use of antihistamines in dogs. It is certainly not a problem with humans as was on them myself for years. Steroids are definately not good for long term use because they have side effects and become less effective. I have realised Bellas ears are becoming bald as she is scratching them. I am now using hydrocortisone/lignocain/antibiotic combo cream on and in her ears which is keeping most of the itching at bay. Anyone have an answer on the long term use of antihistamines in dogs? BP
  22. Getting your dog to stop pulling on the lead is a very stressful job. I found I was stressing myself and Bella and it is hard to relax when everything is going wrong :D Walking into him is the same as turning around except you gently push him out of the way with your body as you're walking. I have not actually used this myself but have seen lots of people say it works well. Have fun :D BP
  23. I know, maybe you can sell your car to pay for it........ You can do lots of work on recall without the ecollar. Then if you still have problems you can buy one. I have my recall pretty good already - just wanted to refine this (as MarkS uses it) and to get them to work under very high distraction levels. Have fun BP
  24. Hey snoozie, it is difficult isn't it Have you tried turning around and walking into him when he pulls? This seems to be very popular with everyone. Also, if this doesn't work make your dog sit and count to 30 and then try again. You will find it will take a week or two for the dog to stop pulling but this does work. With collars, I had the same problem with a choke chain but did much better with the martingale collar (limited slip). With a correction collar, you need to get your timing of corrections good. For example, dog pulls, you give a little jerk on the correction collar and immediately release, if the dog stops pulling, don't forget to praise them. This is the bit I was missing on my walks. I now walk two large dogs without any problems. Other tips: - keep the leash short and use a longer lead as a reward. - stay calm and relaxed and make your body and arm relaxed. Hope you get it sorted out BP
  25. Roll up the rug until she's toilet trained . That's what I did at my house. The other stuff your doing is good and she willl get better at listening. If you don't want to roll up the rug you would have to supervise her anytime she's in that room and move her back to her mat everytime she touches the rug. Good luck with puppy training
