Nivia I missed that post. I'm sorry you got attacked. There was no call for that at all. RedMal Advice are suggestions, not commands You have no right to tell someone what to do.

Excellent work nivia . He sounds very good if he's not crying at night :D Glad you're teaching the sit and doing training. From the stories I hear on DOL I would be very surprisded if you could stop a lab chewing but it's worth a try If you need to confine him before you get your crate you may be able to modify the playpen with some cardboard or something and use that. He's not big enough to knock it over........yet :D My Bruno is an escape artist. He got out a locked dog door yesterday. His crate is the only place I know he's secure :D . Thank goodness he doesn't do escape tricks often . ----------------------------- You have been caught in a minor recurring DOL argument Doesn't happen very often, we're really nice here

Nivia Sounds like you'll have it all set soon. It is up to you whether your dog lives inside or out. You will find some very passionate people here with their own preferences. Regarding games, he is a bird dog like my two. They like playing fetch and carrying around squeaky toys (a squeaky duck has been the favourite so far). Every dog has different tastes in toys, at puppy preschool they had a sample so the pups could choose their favourite. I leave all my shoes inside or in plastic containers. Bruno can open most of these though by tipping them upside down and dragging them over rough surfaces. He is amazing at getting the things he wants Labs and my GSPs are big and bouncy so make sure you never let him jump up on you and teach him to sit right now. Make him sit before opening doors, before getting patted etc. There is nothing worse than a big jumpy dog  Have fun :D

Some dogs never like meeting other dogs. This is not a major problem cause them wanting to meet all other dogs makes it harder to walk them. I would just introduce her slowly to other puppies or calm dogs on lead. You don't want her to become afraid of other dogs. Pups have a fear period. This link explains when it happens and what to do: Puppy Temperament K9 Force . It also explains about socialisation. Have fun

Lovely lab you have I think a crate is a great idea to give him space away from the kids. You have to teach the kids not to disturb the pup when he's in the crate. Some people have suggested crate training children as well I throw a cover (old sheet, tarp whatever) over my crates to make the dogs feel like their in their own little den. They love their crates. ;) Have fun. Buying my first puppy was the smartest thing I ever did

They are very beautiful pictures. The pups were having a ball. No wonder she was so tired
-
You could introduce her to dog friendly people to increase her confidence. Don't rush her though, she'll get there.

What Gear Do You Have For Your Dogs?
BrunoBella replied to KitKat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ditto I have a beautiful black leather lead :D ;) -
After a very big day they can be sleepy for days
-
Sounds like she's just tired after a day of playing and dog training. I would give her a day off. Puppies don't need much activity to wear themselves out.

Why Is He Such A Fussy Eater
BrunoBella replied to daccydog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
LillysMum I dont' agree with your comments on processed foods neither. Beautiful Bella and Cyclone Bruno eat top quality kibble, IMHO they smell beautiful, have gorgeous teeth, have farted twice that I have noticed, do non smelly poos and I could go on I have learned studying history that there is no such thing as a fact. Advice changes, attitudes change, people interpretations vary. The world is not black and white :D thank goodness. Give people a chance to make up their own minds ;) Sorry Daccydog, I went off topic. Kit Kat and co have given great advice about using the dried taking the food away after 10 minutes until your dachy eats. Dachy's are so cute but I can never tell when they're sitting -
Hey Stampy I introduced Bella, who is now three, to the cat when she was 8 weeks old. The cat swiped her across the eye and she spent the night at the vets! Bella still doesn't like cats There are some good posts on introducing dogs to cats from a few months ago. Have a look at them. :D

Block it off is the only way to do that. I have heard people mention static mats to stop counter surfing. Maybe they would work?? K9 Force sells them on his website. Has anyone used these?

I have responded to peer pressure ;) and removed my collars. The yard is totally escape proof and its easy to get a dog back if you still have the other They look beautiful without their collars but I felt very insecure for the first few hours. We're all used to it now ;)
-
Not sure about that. He might be helping you with the cleaning ;)

I always made sure my pups were housetrained before they were released at 8 weeks (they were trained by 6 weeks!) Na nana na na x 2! ;) mind you catching 5 pups when they start sniffin....you feel like a bloody yo-yo, because none of them need to go at the same time! ARRGH! Aus BTW Zillah (my 15mth old rescue) was supposedly not house trained when I got him...but after the first day Daim's my old dog taught him how to ask to go out & what to do...and he was technically trained within a day! gotta love that! Bella was housetrained at 8 weeks. Bruno took a little longer, he was 10 weeks not 16. I was confused when I wrote that.

Did You Get What You Wanted
BrunoBella replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Excellent question lablover. I have two GSPs as pets, Bella nearly three and Bruno 6 months. Bella is soft - takes time to get her used to new things (except for people). She is more than I expected from a dog (she was my first ever dog). She has a very high prey drive which Steve has been teaching me to drive! She also has a high pack drive. Bella was so wonderful by the time she was two, I ordered another pup from the same breeder. Bruno has very sound nerves (he is afraid of almost nothing and will try things by himself). He is also now developing a good prey drive and, combined with his excellent nerves, I know he will be perfect. If I had more room in my house I would keep buying! Have I answered the question correctly?? -
We are indeed having a return of winter Bit of water is good for you

I only tried this once with Bruno. I nearly lost my entire hand

Agree with shoemonster that the crate is the best training tool you will ever own. It will help heaps. With waiting outside with the pup there are a few things you may not already be doing. One is to teach a word like "toilet" so when the pup goes out and pees/poos you say "Good Girl, Good toilet". Once she hears that a few times you can use the word toilet when you take her outside. The other thing is not to let her play or have any fun while she's outside except when you praise her for doing her business. She needs to know toilet stops are business, not play. If she runs off to play I would take her to the toilet on a lead so she can't do this. Good luck and let us know how you go

Bruno was toilet trained at 16 weeks. Na na na na nah

I can beat you all. Cyclone bruno (6mths) chewed the bark off my $300 feature tree on Saturday :D Fortunately I recovered by SOH before he was terminated :D This is teething time, I'm not sure when it finished but would love to know..

Exercise For Puppies How Much Is Too Much
BrunoBella replied to dogsonly's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm sorry you misunderstood my post bikle. I was not trying to make you look guilty, silly or negligent. My explanations were about the advice you were given. I know how hard it is. I got so much different advice from people with my first dog, Bella, which has led to me spending the last 7 months trying to fix the things that I did wrong. With my second dog, Bruno, I now no so much more. There are lots of people with different ideas: No vaccinations versus three vaccinations No walking versus walk everywhere Feed dogs commercial dog food or feed them raw... All this stuff makes my head spin so i just try and pick out the good bits and use them. Don't worry too much and enjoy having a puppy -
I'm not worried about my dogs getting injured wearing their collars or getting stuck on my 6ft fences. I am more worried of them escaping when idiots open the gate and finding them back again.
