  1. He obviously has a poor aim. Sorry, don't know how to fix this but it is funny! My puppy only wees on his toys,. How old is your cav?
  2. Swallowing an entire chicken wing was what Bruno did with his first one. He then threw it up and chewed it and ate it properly Dogs are gross sometimes I give my older dog leftovers sometimes but puppies need a perfect mix of food for their growth stage so I think using a good quality dry food is the best. I feed my pup Purina Proplan Puppy which is very expensive but is recommended by the breeder and keeps him in great condition. Once he stops growing (about 12 months) I will switch him to adult food.
  3. Hi glammachic I feed my pup dog biscuits only as the vet recommended this. Puppies need proper nutrition as they grow so fast so that's the easiest way I find. Poor nutrition as a puppy can damage a dogs bones and cause arthritis later in life. Dogs cannot eat cooked bones. They splinter and can cause nasty injuries. You should let your friend know this is a dangerous practice. Dogs can choke on bones, a friend lost her poodle through choking on a chicken wing. If you do give bones make sure you supervise the eating. My pup had chicken wings from 12 weeks - I freeze them first as he will swallow them whole if he gets a chance.
  4. Bellas fees for the year were $100. We puppy 8 weeks, beginners 8 weeks and intermediate 24 weeks. Total 40 weeks - so thats $2.50 per week. This year I paid: $60 annual fees, $40 for Bella (who hasn't actually been cause I did K9 Force training instead) and $40 for Bruno for the year. Does that help?
  5. And again last night I'm going to get used to sleeping at night soon. BTW Bruno is at least 3/4 of Bella's height at 4mths I'm going to have to take out a second mortgage for dog food and buy the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL basket
  6. Bella went to obedience from 10 weeks to 1 year (did puppy, beginners and intermediate three times). She then got KC and wasn't allowed back for 6 mths. Did some research on this forum and discovered training in drive. Booked in with K9 Force two months ago (Bella is now 2 1/2). Bella is now doing TID from home. Bruno is 16 weeks old and is in puppy class. He is also TID from home. Not sure what else I'll take him to. He is very easy to train and would do very well in obedience. Have to discuss with K9 Force about the best options are. BTW everyone at puppy class wants to know how I got Bruno to do a sit stay at his age. I say he was born sitting (TOT ) Edited for words that were too long ..
  7. It's not hard, just a matter of learning what to do. Good on you for trying many people just dump their dogs if they get into problems. There was a really good post earlier this year which discussed this issue. Link If you look halfway down you will find a post by TangerineDream who has written some great articles on how to be the boss. They don't take long to read. Good luck Edited for forgetfulness Also a great site on here in the Training forum teaching the Triangle of Temptation which will help show your dog whose boss. It was written by K9 Force who is a trainer/behaviourist. Triangle of Temptation. I have been using this on my 21/2 year old for a few months and the change in her behaviour and her respect for me is amazing.
  8. Hi This is defininately a leadership issue. I am not much of an expert on leadership so will wait for someone else to respond but this is easy to fix. I would enrol in obedience asap. Some easy things to show leadership (for all people in your household) is to make sure the dog goes through doors last, gets fed last, gets attention last and stays lower physically. I would not let the dog sleep on your bed anymore as this contributes to leadership issues in some dogs, and obviously in yours. Don't worry, it's not hard to fix. You have to set some new rules and make sure the dog sticks to them. Let us know how you go. BP
  9. LL How did you miss that.... It's here Herding guy Good luck with getting your kelpie and yourself back to normal
  10. I was told not to give puppies bones till they're three months old and then to start on chicken wings. There are people who feed their dogs BARF (don't know much about it) who do do this differently. Have fun
  11. What about food drive then. A simple exchange of yummy treats for the GHOD
  12. I need water so you better come to the workshop then  Bruno is my 4mth old GSP pup. He now stars in my avatar as I can't get a good picture of Bella. She won't pose for the camera but Bruno sits as soon as I bring it out
  13. HR You have ruined my life ;) ;) I thought the world was going to be perfect tomorrow  :D
  14. Success I put Bruno to sleep in his crate and Bella in the laundry - we all slept to 8am without incident.. :D
  15. Mooper, Queanbeyan residents aren't allowed to come to the Canberra workshop
  16. I might give that a try actually cause Bella is well behaved in the house
  17. It is true and most embarassing normally . Good luck with your training. This is the bit that has impressed my friends, they can't believe how calm Bella is now!
  18. Mooper Bella and I did private training in Kurrajong. I'm already booked into the workshop with Bruno as is my neighbour. How many more do we need to fill this up?
  19. Great to hear about your success . I have been having a lot of success with Bella as well and Bruno impressed everyone at his first puppy class with his sit stays at 18 weeks. Will have to try razzing on Sunday and see how that goes. Good work Kavik
  20. Well I had to let everyone know that 3 weeks after starting training and drive miss bella has been impressing everyone - particularly people who have known us for a while. Major changes are calm behaviour, enormous increase in attention and huge improvement in walking skills (on a prong). On a walk on Sunday, nobody crossed the street to give us space (100% improvement) Two people stopped and complimented me on how well behaved my dog was. Bella heeled perfectly and she listened to all my commands. Bella can also spend time sniffing the ground without lunging off after birds so she enjoys her walks much more. Before this, every type of training I had done was "one step forward, three steps back". I am so impressed that this can happen in three weeks
  21. Oh yes, he is a typical boy. I have to be very sharp to keep ahead of him
  22. I don't pick my puppy up at all. I let him sit on my lap if I'm sitting on the floor, the rest of the time he is in his basket or on the ground outside. You have to be patient and consistent and the pup will soon learn not to cling. Good luck
  23. I do laugh nearly all the time just not at 3am Bruno and Bella both have a basket - Bella wants to sleep by herself and Bruno wants to sleep with Bella - this is a cause of much growling and whining . I agree Bella will be asserting her authority. Bruno is lovely as always but he is getting bigger, testing his boundaries and being a lot more active. I wouldn't like to sleep with Bruno ;)
  24. Last week we broke into the house while I was in Sydney and made an even bigger mess. Took me forever to find all my shoes ;) He rolled in the bottom of my bedroom sheers which are now in tatters
  25. An update: I dutifully locked the dog door so Bruno couldn't get locked out. Slept all night and this morning opened the door to find Psycho Puppy :D leaping around my laundry, baskets everywhere, water dribbled over the beds and Bella looking at me balefully. Now I understand why she locks him out at 3am
