  1. No point JJ -HCL doesn't listen so I just laugh! Better than pulling my hair out!
  2. Would hate to see the results if a child happened to get hold of the desired toy in the dog's presence! The mind boggles. It's a disaster waiting to happen!
  3. I have to stop all the time as I get dizzy as well. Found a way to get the toy back if Bella gets it into her mouth: I pull the toy high on my chest so her front legs are off the ground and spin (the other way) only takes one spin and she lets it go. I am getting better at this and even getting fitter. Have used Nekhbets Knee trick as well to stop my face getting scratched ;) Bella got injured as well as she did a massive leap and landed on top of a tap in the middle of the yard - no damage fortunately and she went on to finish her training session. My 12 week old puppy prefers the lead to her toy. Have just switched her to a tiny ball in a sock (as per someone's post) and that works much better. I must be a masochist cause I'm having such fun . In the week I've been doing the drive training, Bella seems much calmer (except when in drive) - does this happen to everyone else's dog? edited for bad spelling
  4. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I have bruised hands and wrist and yesterday I ran into a tree branch while trying to build drive and nearly KOd myself. Have bruises on cheek and scrapes on forehead!!! We're all getting much better though and I am getting at arm placement! Me and my dogs are having fun!
  5. Bella was a little nervy as a pup and weed every time one of my friends came over. My new pup bruno is absolutely confident in everything he does and will quite happily wee anywhere if I forget to let him out. I bought a dryer! Bella did grow out of the nervous weeing when she gained more confidence. I'm not sure what else to advise except building her confidence and trust which is a long process. Have fun
  6. She might be nervous about being picked up. Make her walk until she has better control of her bladder
  7. Hey shoemonster I am having a similar problem with my two first thing in the morning. They catapult around chasing and barking in the laundry to get me to get out of bed and play with them. I get up, put the pup in his crate and go back to bed for another half hour. After much squealing they settle and I let the pup back out. Can you crate one of them or separate in different rooms - this might teach them not to go crazy inside.
  8. German shepherds are herders and this is their life. I'm sure some gsd owners will give advice but in the meantime my GSP pup was biting me. Each time he did it I would stand still and ignore it. As soon as he stopped I would reach down and give him a big pat and tell him what a good boy he was. This works fine but takes a little time. Bruno now rarely nips me at 14 weeks. When you say you've tried everything, this may actually be the problem. Dogs get confused if you keep changing the rules. Decide on what you want to do to stop the biting, follow the rules all the time and make sure everyone else (if there are more people) does too. Calm and consistency is the key IMO. Good luck
  9. Hi Debbieness I have no idea but suggest you put this message in the breeding forum where you'll find people with this experience. Hope you work it out.

    Barking

Excellent. I have never heard of Manchester Terriers either but I'm sure they won't like being sprayed with water. Some people have to use a bucket of the stuff my dogs respond to a few mils.

    Barking

Hi Bark I have a similar problem with my 2 yo dog and one neighbour. Most embarrasing that she barks only at him and sometimes his kids. Went and spoke to them and we all agreed to ignore the barking (they were feeding my dog bones to stop her). She has now stopped barking at them. Any response to the barking is encouragament and not responding has worked. This does require some negotiation with the neighbour as the barking would initially get worse. I have also discovered the joys of water sprayer. Bella does not bark a lot, but I want her to stop after I have investigated the "Burglars". I now spray Bella with a little bit of water if she doesn't stop barking on my cue and that works a treat. Spraying water also means you are not joining in the barking . What sort of dog do you have?
  12. I was just reading something similar in the next post - Tangerine Dream put in an a great post on how to tell if the dog is being dominant and how to become the boss. Link Not sure about the bed wetting, she might have been missing your son. Good luck
  13. Hi Sandra There is heaps of info on this on the forum cause everyone has this problem. This is a very recent discussion: Link Good luck
  14. Don't need to separate your dogs unless your existing dog is unwell. Puppy playpen is better in a busy area but not right in the middle. Puppy would complain in the study. Puppies sleep through any noise!
  15. Bruno has removed the stuffing and squeakers from two ducks ;) . For the rest hasn't done much damage. I bought him a toy that looks like a snake and has soft and hard balls on it. I give that to him whenever he starts to chew and this works well. Bruno and his sister have a favourite spot in the yard where they like to make a "little" hollow to sleep in, this I did back in every week or so.
  16. I'm very excited this morning cause one of Bruno's littermates is coming to play today. Will try and get some photos if they sit still ;)
  17. My 12 week old pup threw up his first chicken wing and then ate it again properly. He scoffed it first time. It was pretty gross to watch but have seen worse ;) Juggy might have scoffed his as well as he wasn't used to it. Eating vomit is normal for dogs. I just pick it up straight away to stop them from doing it.
  18. Great idea Abergavny, greyhounds like to run for 20 mins and then sleep the rest of the day. They would be perfect I'm also interested in where dogs are allowed. Have taken mine to the pet shop but not sure where else they are allowed. I would not recommend a GSP for appartment living
  19. Excellent. She must have been jealous cause you had better stuff than she did
  20. Bruno does the same with my fluffy slippers. I stopped him by wearing for 5 mins at a time and moving him away from them when he bit. A week later he leaves them alone (unless they're not on my feet ). Should be easy enough to fix.
  21. Sound like you're doing a good job. I agree with Peibe, whatever work for you is fine. Dogs adapt to all sorts of sleeping patterns. The only thing to watch is not to take the pup out of the crate while it's crying, wait till it stops and then take it out. I often move my pup from her crate to a bed next to my other dog during the evening. Have fun
  22. Excellent, I'm glad he's doing well. My older dog, Bella, like Jewel does a little cry when the pup is in his crate. Bruno now sleeps to 7am which is much more reasonable. I go to bed late though so he gets a toilet stop at 11.30 ish. How come the pup hasn't got a name? How about Nile for "Jewel of the Nile" or Junior. He needs a name poor baby
  23. That's wonderful that she slept all night. I stuffed up completely last night cause bruno started crying at 3am which he hasn't done for three weeks. I decided to ignore him as I told you to do! He cried for half an hour. When I got up in the morning I found a lovely present for me in his crate! Serves me right. I'm not very good at thinking at 3am or I would have realised that this was not an I'm lonely cry but an I really really need to go to the toilet cry Peibe, how is your puppy going?
  24. I know it's very hard to remember not to comfort or talk. Don't even make eye contact if they are crying. Bruno stopped after one night of me not sneaking in to give him a pat :D When I was up, I also said "Good boy" anytime he was quiet so he learns that quiet is what you are after. I'm not sure whether you need a crate as you have a little pen already. Why don't you try a night with no talking or looking and if that doesn't help try the crate. Puppies are very good at working out how to get extra attention! I try and get them to focus on good ways to win my affection like sitting before they get let out of bed. Have fun and hope you get some sleep
