  1. Tuck the poor boy up in a nice comfy bed, keep him warm and comfy, take three deep breaths and have a half a drink. There's nothing they will do till tomorrow and the lump won't get bigger overnight. This could take a while to sort out so you need to stay calm until they come back with treatment options. Give him a big hug from me and Bella and Bruno.
  2. wyvernblade, how absolutely sad :p . I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope everything goes OK. I agree, your vet should have picked this up. Not the tumour necessarily but that your dog wasn't getting better. My vet rings if I've had bella in for anything to see how she's going. He also says come straight back if she doesn't get better. I am not happy with your vet either Sending healing vibes to your GSD BellasPerson
  3. Hi LeoPuppy There has been interesting discussion on raising puppies to focus on you in the training and obedience thread. Not sure if you've read them but here is a sample:Link . I don't have high level competition dogs but I understand your concern. You might be better posting this in Training forum. I got a puppy (Bruno) 8 weeks ago. Bella (the older) needed time out for the first three or four weeks but now they are fine alone together. They are now best friends but listen to me well. I walk them separately and train one while the other watches from a pen. Also take the pup to puppy school while Bella stays home. Have been deliberately separating them from the beginning and they are both fine except when I work one in the front yard or up and down the street. The other one can be heard two blocks away. If I was a serious competition person I would probably do even more one on one. Have fun.
  4. My sister has an enormous family with kids everywhere and her JRT was lovely. She also took him to a retirement village to charm all the oldies. JRTs do like their own way but they are not snappy and IMHO are extraordinarily safe with children of all ages . If only they were a half a metre taller , I could have one too. Can't stand bending over! GSPs rule JRTs aren't too bad for a second option
  5. Dimex I wouldn't worry about him being smaller than another pugalier. Crossbreeds - pug cross cavalier I assume - can take on characteristics of either breed so there can be huge size, shape and other differences between these dogs. Yours might be more pug than cavalier - not sure on ideal sizes for either of those though. Does your pup look like the other pug cavalier cross?? I agree with Apollo that cows milk is not good for dogs, I used goats milk for my new pup and plain yoghurt for my first pup. But only for a month or so, then just used water to make the biscuits easier to eat. Do you have a photo? Good luck
  6. Great to hear of your success Now you wait for the teenage years when they become deaf and challenge the rules again. (7 months I think). My pup is three months and I'm enjoying his current lovely behaviour while I can!
  7. My answer to everything - get her a crate and put it in a fairly busy place in the house. Puppies feel safer in a small area (less burglars to chase off). You can do a search on crate trainng here, there is heaps of information. She is very cute and I'm sure she can a huge racket Have fun!
  8. Are you saying my timing is off I thought I was perfect Will have to practice even harder :D Had a great session yesterday, not a new scratch or bruise on me . Finally figured out how to avoid the jaws, paws and bodies flying at me
  9. What's going on :D I don't get paid I'm never mentioning Steve again.
  10. She already spends far less time with the chickens - down from nearly all the time to three times a day. She could injure a child severely by licking its ears and mouth - could do untold damage Bruno is a puppy protege. He is the smartest, bestest puppy in the world IMHO
  11. Peibe Agree wholeheartedly. The spray bottle is the best tool I have found, particularly for house training. It stops me from getting impatient and gets the message across when you haven't worked out words yet for new pups. I sprayed Bruno once when he picked up a shoe and now he leaves them alone (while I'm watching!). Telling him "No" does not have this same affect. Lillysmum Peibe is not putting words into the mouths of others. She is reading exactly what is said
  12. Yeah yippee yahoo Miss Bella left her post of playing with the chickens over the other side of the fence (an unheard of occurence), raced over to me so we could do our drive building I normally have to go over there and pull her back by her collar as she is totally obsessed with these chickens - she caught one that jumped into our yard when she was 6 months old and has been obsessed ever since. I think this training in drive might work Also having success with Bruno the pup and TOT. He was pissed off first time I tied him up and stopped him from eating but two days later he sits, looks at me with a big grin and waits for me to let him have his dinner. Cool
  13. I just taught Bruno to drop a few weeks ago. First time he didn't get it so I rested my hand on his back sligthly and he dropped. I then repeated it a few times. I always teach drop-sit-drop-sit-stand all at once. Eg, Bruno does a sit, then a drop then a sit - then he gets his treat. It is much easier to learn to drop from a sit than a stand. I mix it up with the stand as well. I started this when Bruno was 8 weeks and he was doing it fine within a week. I find doing lots of tricks makes the dog understand you're doing training (which my dogs love). With voice and hand commands, I add them as soon as they've done the trick following a treat a few times. I test by using voice command combined with hand signals - if they listen then I know they have it. I then try with hand signals only. Bruno at 15 weeks will sit on a hand or voice signal, but drop and stand only on hand signals. Are busy at the moment building drive so my standard training has changed a bit.
  14. Came home from dinner out last night to find my bedroom floor covered up in chewed up bits of paper from the bin Took me half an hour to pick up all the bits and vacuum. Bruno likes my bins a a lot and undid the primary and secondary latch on the doggy gate. Last night I added a third latch see how long that holds him. He looks so innocent!
  15. It is a hard decision. The sensible option is to go with long term happiness for yourself, which is the pup with the best temperament and health. I always go temparament before looks. Can you keep the sickly pup as well for a few months to make sure she's ok and then adopt her out as well? That's all I can think of..
  16. EEK! Who could predict that happening I've never heard of a dog going crazy over leaves. Was it on a lead? Should have been if there were leaves present.
  17. No probs. I wear wet weather gear cause it gets messy ;) Watch out for shaking
  18. Might be the height or the tub the pup is afraid of? I wash bella outside in a big plastic shell right on the ground and never had problems. Tie her with a lead and give her lots of treats or a chew. I use buckets of warm water but my dogs are shorthaired so don't need much cleaning. If jinx is food focussed, lots of treats and encouragment help. Same with brushing, start with a few minutes at a time until Jinx is comfortable. Bella, who is now two, was afraid of everything new and needed heaps of encouragement to try new things. Only took a few successful goes to make her comfortable though. You may be able to change to the laundry tub once Jinx is more comfortable. I'm sure Jinx will be much more comfortable with this soon . Good luck
  19. Where and how are you bathing him?
  20. My two are loving it too. We had to practice in the carport as it is RAINING yippee. No more snapping here either .
  21. Myzka Great pictures . Really shows how much the dogs enjoy their drive training. Wish I'd taken some, but was too busy learning!
  22. I got it and enjoyed it immensely. I'm on my first week so am still experimenting. Was very impressed with Bella - it's actually really comforting to observe how she copes with excitement close up. I normally see all this from behind. She is very gentle with me and will stop immediately if I ask her to sit.
  23. I read comments of people, including myself, getting jumped on and mouthed - this is not mauling and at no time did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe. In fact I said my dogs and I were having great fun. I laugh because I find you're interpretion of this post funny, I even laughed when you called me pathetic
  24. Not sure JJ but it certainly isn't evident in my dogs, whatever it is.
