  1. Time for a zapping and i recommend the Thunderbird Electric fence. I can guarantee that they will not go near the main fence and they soon forget about what is on the other side.
  2. There is no need for a third vacc, the vets like the third as it's $$$$ in the pocket.
  3. I'm sorry for your loss, it's looks as though Jacq captured him in that image. It's a treasure. Sweet dreams forever Beau ;)
  4. That's so sad The poor old girl It sounds like she is in pain, its clearly hurts for her to walk. You know yourself when you are in pain you walk slowly and as stiff as you can, in order to reduce the amount of pain relayed. The tail in a Pug is often an idication of how they are feeling, if they are happy and well their tail is generally curled over the back. They have to be very unsure, frightened or in pain for them to drop. A good indication would be when you enter the room and she sees you, a Pug would normally take one look at you and curl the tail , to greet you with happiness. I'm so sorry, I don't have any real suggestions, other than maybe something to manage the pain. She's not my dog and I can't advise you what to do, but if one of my guys was feeling as sad as you say your poor girl is, I would consider giving him/her their wings. ETA: I have not had to make the decision for three years now, but you need to do what you feel is right and what you can cope with. When is sent Mimi to the bridge, I stayed with her, held her paw and kissed my baby goodbye. I felt it was the least I could do after the years of joy she brought me and the trust that she had in me. I then took her home and Pet At Peace collected her that afternoon for cremation. When I worked as a Vet nurse I encouraged people to stay with their dogs, even though it's tough, it's a final goodbye and the dogs are with the people that love them. If you decide to give your girl her wings. Can I suggest that you arrnage with the Vet, to either come to your home or call Pets At Peace and arrange for them to collect her body from the Vet.
  5. The lime is the good old fashioned stuff from the rural stores ( I don't know where else you would get it ), I just put on a rubber glove and spread handfulls over the lawn and into the garden, you can be pretty slap happy with it, except for plants that burn easlily and then just water it in. It won't kill the grass, it will make it look wonderful. If in doubt about your grass variety , ask a garden centre about your grass, none of mine has died from doing it.
  6. I also forgot to add, that you spread lime around your lawns and gardens and this gets rid of the little suckers from your yard. I have only dealt with fleas twice in over ten years, but your action plan sounds pretty good. :D
  7. JBBB, I would contact Nicole from Bayer and have a chat to her. PM me if you would like her details. I have always found her wonderful to deal with, should I have any questions . :D
  8. Some laugh :D , others pull their hair out at the mere mention of their name
  9. oh yeah, I forgot about that one :D :D P.S. I needed a laugh
  10. You drive out here and I'll do the dirty work for you You won't hurt her, you just don;t want to get your hands dirty :D
  11. I have had one dog de-barked ( for want of a better word ). It did reduce his noise, however he learnt to bark from his belly. He no longer had the standard dog bark but made a deep low noise from inside. It was still better than what he sounded like previously. I also visited a house this week where two of the dogs had also been done, both of the dogs barked 24/7 prior to their operation. I would do it again if I felt the need to. We are down to virtually no barking since we put up the electric fence. The neighbours dogs are also more quiet than before.
  12. We get what sounds like the same thing with some of the Pugs ( two in particular ). They come up in the form of a hard lump between the toes and basically keep growing until the split. We have ruled out water ( as I have a dry kennel ) , disinfectants and grass, it just appears to be one of those things. I have found the best way to treat them, if they are mild is with Neocort. We have had one case that was severe and needed antibiotics and the last outbreak was in a pregnant bitch and we treated her with Dermotic, as I did not want to give her any oral medication 6 days out from whelping. Once my vet and myself ruled out grass seeds, we basically treated them like an infection. I feel that they are set off by foreign bodies, maybe sand or a scratch from a stick ( something simple ) and they have responded quickly to treatment. I have avoided where I can treating them with salt and water, as the area between the toes is hard to keep dry at the best of times. Let me know how you get on.
  13. Zorro, you are a fool to think that there is no point worrying about what health concerns the dog may have. Staffshih, has an moral and legal responsibility to provide a safe and clean environment for her other clients. I would indeed be very very concerned if the dog is ill and has come into contact with others in her salon. It would also be helpful to know what you are dealing with, so that you can clean the salon appropriately and reduce the risk of further infection. If a dog has been neglected, you can report what you see. What action is taken, is another story, but I feel you have a moral duty to report any abuse or neglect. Shaffshi, also has a very young litter at home and would take precautions on a daily basis, so as to reduce the chance of bringing any disease home. I too would be treating whatever this dog has, as life threateing to my pups, unless proven otherwise. Get a grip Zorro
  14. I know of a Wei, who was crippled by his vaccinations as a baby, he passed away a couple of months ago . He was so sick, for his entire life that I would have put him to sleep years ago. They chose to battle through massive growth plate problems, that left him crippled, skin disorders and worst of all were the digestive disorders that he suffered his entire life. He did not have a day without medication . His vet notes are hundreds of pages long, they were spending a thousand dollars a month on him. I believe his life treatment added up to around $70 000. In some places that's a half a house. ;) This is an extreme example of what can happen but it did happen and was triggered by vaccination. It's c3 only here and I'll take the risk on the dogs picking up kennel cough, it's easy enough to treat
  15. It's quite common to remove baby teeth, I know quite a few Stafford breeders that will get the pliers out when needed. They aren't that hard to take out. When they are stuck tight , they should be removed by a vet . Otherwise they simply slide out when you pull them from the right angle. I feel sorry for the poor poodle though
  16. You will be forever in our hearts Sweet dreams forever Turbo and your two big brothers May 2007 be the year for happy, healthy bundles of puppy joy
  17. I'm so sorry for your loss, we came to know and love her, through your battle. May she rest in peace, knowing that she won
  18. I take mine out from eight weeks and have never had a sick puppy and certainly not had one pick up parvo.
  19. We just redid a dew claw with just a local. I have a very good working relationship with my vet, so much so, that he assumes I will be his nurse for every proceedure he does on my dogs I would also suggest calling a few vets and speaking with them. I can understand their "safety" concerns and I'm guessing that there won't be too many willing to do anything on a BM, without heavy sedation or GA. I know BM's are the biggest sooks and let you do just about anything to them. I understand your concerns and I won't put a dog under a GA , for the convenience of a vet, when they could certainly do the proceedure without one. There are plenty of clinics out there, who book 'em all in in the morning, GA the lot and run them through the surgery one after another. I hope you can find a new vet that's willing to take the time and also look at what's in the genuine best interest of your dog. If my vet said, we're knocking the dog out, I know he's doing it for a reason. I hope you can find one that's the same ;)
  20. This will in no way solve the problem if the dogs are barking, however, if it is at all possible, is there anyway that you could take the dogs with you to work and crate them there for a week or two in the mornings. The only reason I suggest this, is if a neighbour is not making a genuine complaint and they complain about your dogs barking at 5.30 -6.30 every morning, you can soon catch them out with their ficticious diary. I say this only because we have had a coomplaint about our dogs in the past, the claimed to have a diary etc and wrote down dates that I was away ( with all of the dogs ) showing. As i said , it won;t solve the problem, but it will certainly prove if it's a genuine complaint.
  21. We had a cattle dog with a stomach ulcer. We had to keep her on a very bland diet, basic chicken , rice and vegie stew. I know that Ollie is a bit of a food-aholic and likes his prepared by a world class chef, but he may need to go on that very bland diet It's hard when you are trying to tempt him to eat
  22. bummer , i've been following his story
  23. What a kind thing to do for them. Sweet dreams forever
  24. Hi Jodie All we can do is send Ollie our love
  25. If the vets cannot see anything on the Xray , then there is no way in hell, I would be opertaing on a puppy, simply because they can't find anything. I would be straight to either Peter Scofield or Gary Barnsley and seeking their opinion on what is wrong with the puppy. I know you are saying that he is not over weight, but I would be getting this dogs weight down , he needs to be lean, have a decent tuck , even to the point of showing rib but not the back bone. The lighter he is, the less stress will be placed on baby joints. Just about every Amstaff you see is overweight, owners are judging the weight of their dogs based on the others around them, not the look of the dog and what is correct for them. Sorry if it sounds a bit harsh, but my pet hate is overweight dogs with owners in denial about it.
