  1. Walking my Bernese Mountain Dog and my Australian Shepherd (black tri) when a couple approaches us. He: ’Do you sell puppies?’ Me: ‘Why would you assume that? He: ‘Isn’t that a boy and a girl and you can breed with them?’ Me: ‘No, that are 2 girls and are different breeds” He: Or Walking the same dogs and people assume that they are mother and puppy……… Sorry cannot attach pics, but they do definitely look different
  2. Hi Pie, Thanks for your attention> We are living in Canning (suburb Rossmoyne)
  3. No recommendations for me? I would really appreciate any input from your side!
  4. Hi all, I'm looking for a good groomer, if possible south. Have 2 dogs who never got a professional grooming (and only 1 x shampoo shower in their life). They should not be clipped (Bernese Mountaindog & Australian Shepherd), just a bit trimmed and maybe shorten their belly hair. Any recommendations? I found an old thread, but it's from 2009 and probably outdated :) Thanks for your help!
  5. I'm surprised that no one here is into natural stuff, which was quite often discussed in German/Belgian dogchats. Personally I used to give my dogs a bit garlic every 2nd day and it worked pretty well with both of them. Ys, I know it's poisonous for dogs, but they would have never eaten a bigger amount of garlic (bad taste  ) Other treatments being discussed was to rub coconut oil onto the coat or certain essential oils (e.g. rose geranium or a mix of several ess.oils). I heard as well about amber collars....it's said they have 2 effects. It contains essential oil, which is released while it rubs against the coat and in addition a certain electrostatic charging repels the ticks. Though the amber must not be polished, but in its natural form of appearance.
  6. every morning, we have an off leash area close to our house... and Canning River to swim in :-)
  7. We are on a 457 visa in Perth and have been advised from our employer quite late that we are supposed to move to Autralia, hence we had some trouble getting our dogs ready in time for the quarantine. At the time I finally got the import permission the station in Perth was fully booked months ahead. So we decided to fly them out to Sydney (50 days quarantine!) Us in Perth, the dogs in Sydney there was no way to visit them and looking back, definitely better for them and for myself. While I had a very bad feeling in the beginning, the dogs were very well treated over there. The staff was devoted to the animals and when we picked them up we could see and feel how good they were. Due to the long q-time we hired the kind of visit-service mentioned in one of the posts. They did some -restricted- walking, grooming and cuddling. At the end from the period we flew them out from Perth to Sydney (combined with a Sydney-weekend-trip for my hubby and myself!!) and all went much much better then we expected. Though my hubby threatenend to cut down on my birthdays and christmas presents........ the whole thing was horribly expensive!!! Cheers B
  8. Back home in Belgium I never thought much about shedding, my 2 dogs (Bernese Mountain Dog and Australian Shepherd, both black hair) were outside in the garden (without access to the house) during the day and only came inside when we came back from work in the evenings and during the night. Here it's a different story: We do not want them to destroy our loandlords garden too much, so they are inside with access to the backyard. And yes, they are shedding like hell! Did I mention that we have white tiles in the whole ground floor? But we have as well the vaccum robot, who is doing overtime when we are at work. So, it's not very nice to look at (masses of black hair on white tiles), but I personally do not mind.....as long as we do not have unannounced visits I mean as long as you don't judge doghair as 'dirt' it's alright.. in my opinion.
  9. @ Lisa: We only recently moved to WA (from Europe), hence I do not yet have a small bunch of friends..... but working on it  @ CareyJ: I didn't realize that the park run is that serious! I think I will first have a run there on my own and check the event out and maybe take her the next time as you suggested as a spectator. It's anyway not that important to take Jessie with me as I run with her a couple of times per week in the morning along the Canning River, but thought the park run might be a nice change for the two of us.
  10. Hi, started running with my Aussie girl and getting slowly into shape....slowly  However, I would like to try the Parkrun event (each Saturday morning 8am in different locations.) My question is simply: Is someone going there with dog? If so, is it busy? Any dogs there? I'm not sure how my dog will react in a mass run......I might first have a look alone and bring my girl at a later stage. Cheers Birgit
  11. Hi Michael, thanks for the info. I contacted Dogs WA and learnt that I either need pedigree for them or need to have them sterilized. For one of my dogs I have the pedigree, but for the 2nd one I never received it, as it was never relevant for me here in Belgium. Still have 6 weeks to work on this before I fly out to Perth. Greetings from a -4 °C cold Belgium Birgit
  12. Hi all, I'm still living in Europe, but coming over to live and work in Perth beginning/middle of April. :) My 2 dogs will (hopefully) be in Eastern Creek Quarantine Station (Sydney) till end of May, then I have to pick them up or have them transported to Perth....My sleep will be better once all this moving stuff is finalized Your ET sounds very interesting and would be perfect for me as I could combine my sport with doing something with and for the dogs. So I'm fairly fit (for my age) and can do a 5km run in about 30 mins, though not 10k in 60min, so still a bit of work to do.... My Aussie-girl is certainly in a better condition than I am, so I hope to have us participate in the ET in WA in September. Though being able to communicate in English I have problems understanding all your abbreviations....What does GSDA mean? This was linked to the ET in WA. (at least some abbreviations ARE clear!) I think I will be able to get us physically trained, but what are the burocratical steps to follow once arrived in Perth. Do I need to be member of a club? Maybe someone can help me or inform sites to check. Thanks a lot in advance Greetings from Belgium Birgit
