  1. Haven't heard of Leigh I have found some interesting tidbits from Leerburg, wouldn't mind seeing a few more DVDs from there. As usual don't agree with everything I have seen, but first saw the food spitting there.
  2. I have seen a few dogs that were said to be cavalier x poodle that were brindle as well, really had me puzzled
  3. Could you PM me too! I would love a few more jumps - you can do a bit with 2, but heaps more with 4
  4. Do you have a mat or bed in the house where she can lie down? You could teach her to lie on her mat on command, and then use that when you are having dinner so she doesn't bother you. Reward for good behaviour with a treat. Or give her something like a bone or kong to occupy her. My guys are in their crates when we eat dinner, just easier that way!
  5. kids tunnels are great! I have one of those as well, great for small dogs and puppies. Unfortunately Kaos outgrew this so I needed a bigger tunnel Zoe can use it though.
  6. I have a tunnel from there. Pretty good quality, not as good as competition, but certainly good enough for backyard practice. Fits my GSD no problems (though he is harder on it than the Kelpies!).
  7. So sorry to hear this Run free Bosley
  8. It does sound like a more traditional type of club. Maybe it would be best to go to a club that uses more positive based training methods if you don't feel comfortable there. I have found you sometimes have to try a few before you find one you really like!
  9. Kaos puts pressure on it but Zoe (being an older and more dainty dog ) generally just touches it. But if I wait for a longer touch or repeated touches, Zoe may resort to pawing it (as I have done some paw targetting with her on other things) while Kaos will give the longer or repeated touches without pawing.
  10. Ooh that's a good idea! We don't get Japanese Takeaway (none near us), but OH's parents probably do, and I should probably look into getting a smaller one. Though Kaos also generalises well and will target pretty much anything I give him.
  11. About 9 cm diameter, also have one that is 10cm diameter, whatever I can find really
  12. Go the plastic lid That's what I'm using too
  13. I reckon you make one, and if it works well, you may have a market
  14. I agree with huski, some focus work will help If you can get your dog's attention on you when walking it will help the exciteability around other dogs and people. Have you done any focus work in your obedience classes?
  15. I agree with Erny. Was in the middle of writing a response and my baby wiped it and Erny responded first Regardless of the tool you decide to use, it will be much more effective if you get some training on how to use it properly, so that she learns that walking nicely is beneficial for her as well as you Haltis are not an instant fix, I have walked a Lab that learned to pull through it, was a serious puller and very strong! Edit for grammar
  16. Although I am not a big fan of headcollars, I would have liked being there to hear you talk about them Erny Lots of people are using them these days and it would be good to know more about them and how to best fit them and use them most effectively.
  17. Sheppies must be screamers Diesel used to do this too, was so embarrassing ;) Still occasionally does it when I tie him up but much better than it used to be.
  18. Yay I can finally post in here! On 21 FEb we got our first clear round in agility ever - in ADAC Novice Jumping
  19. This from the current rules Holding the Lead: The lead will be held in the left or right hand. Slack may be taken up in the other hand. Where the hand holding the lead is removed from the lead to give a signal, it must be returned to the lead immediately such a signal is given. Handlers must use sufficient length of lead to give freedom of movement and show a distinct loop at all times.
  20. Good point Kelpie-i  Click to Calm also addresses this and has exercises to counter condition these cues like leash tightening. Have to admit I haven't tried them yet - good to know that they do work, maybe I should give them a try as well
  21. The clubs I've been to recently let you use toys if that's what your dog likes. I think some things are easier with food though - clicker training for example, and this has many applications in agility. Did you ask if you could use toys at Manly? PICSI has on their website that they like it if your dog tugs so they definitely allow toys Kaos doesn't tug reliably yet ETA: I use both food and toys, depending on what I am trying to train. Some things are easier with food, some with toys.
  22. As far as I am aware there are DOLers at all those clubs Why don't you want to use food?
  23. You will find that as agility is reward based, most if not all clubs use food, but should allow you to use toys as well. There is Paws 4 Fun at Castle Hill http://www.paws4fun.org.au/ Manly & Districts at Narrabeen http://www.northernbeachesdogtraining.com.au/index.htm Agility Dog Club of NSW at Castle Hill http://www.agility.org.au/ Canine Fun Sports at St Ives http://www.caninefunsports.com.au/ Northern Suburbs at St Ives http://www.nsdogtraining.org.au/homepg.html Will put up web addresses in a minute ETA: Whoops forgot: PICSI at Parramatta http://www.picsi.org.au/
  24. Sometimes you can get away with just front crosses (I try to ) though the one where we actually qualified we did a rear cross!
  25. These people sell them http://agilityaustralia.com/
