Supplement Suggestions For Young Dog.
Yonjuro replied to Steph M's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have been adding Augustines Approved to Ronin's food for a few months now. He seems to be glowing in health, can't say if it is this supplement that is helping but it is sure not doing any harm. The Vet said whatever I am feeding him - don't change it. He get one third raw - which goes against my previous views on the the matter of mixing. My breeder recommended the mixing right from the start so I followed her advice. He was on RC Maxi Junior at the very beginning as this is what the breeder used. I got him off that pretty quickly as he was itchy and I don't personally don't like foods with corn and grains. He has been on Taste of The Wild since then and the itchiness has all disappeared. I was having a chat with our breeder the other day and interestingly she has changed over to TOTW too. I used K9 Puppy gold for his 8 - 16 weeks and found it to be very good, but I used it at just less than half the recommended dose. I think K9 Showstopper is quite calorific so if your went down that path I thing a one third does would be more than sufficient - but others will be able to advise you better on that. I use the Augustines Approved at half dose as I know the foods and treats I give him are very good, either way it is quite economical at 1 tsp per cup of food at full dose. So for me, based on what you have said I would try the Augustines Approved. -

Thanks Mrs RB, Oh he has done plenty of big poops over the last couple of days and all look good - err... well, as good as poo can look I guess :D If it is still in there it is obviously not blocking anything at this stage. I do give him raw carrot and can see bits of that for sure LOL -

Well, it's been 48 hours and he seems perfectly fine, his stools are all normal and he seems his normal naughty puppy-self. I have dissected the poops I found and never found the missing plastic bit, so I dunno... he has either secretly passed it somewhere,it is still in him, or he never ate it Either way he seems fine and eating, drinking and pooping like the little monster he is. I imagine that he would have been unwell by now if there was going to be a problem??? I have had quite enough of playing Poo Surgeon :D -
Wishing you an Doof the very best.

I can't offer any advice, but good on you for asking questions here, talking to a different vet and especially the breeder. All of this takes guts and shows you really care for the welfare of your dogs and the expected litter. Accidents do happen and you are standing up to take responsibility so well done to you. I hope things go smoothly and it seems like there are a number of people here that are giving you great advice and now that you have the breeder and vet to help you, things are looking brighter. :)

Ronin is funny in that he never goes to the toilet on walks, he always does it at home either before or after. We are off to my mum and dad's for dinner and will be bring him with us just incase. -

Thanks for your concern Trinabean, No sign of the plastic, he has had two big poops today that are perfect, I dissected but no sign of it. He may have pooped behind a bush or somewhere I can't find. He was very good at training today so I don't really know if there is a problem. It has been around 24 hours since it potentially happened. I suppose if there is no change tomorrow in his health by this time tomorrow I can relax a bit??? He does seem a bit lethargic but it could be just tiredness from the 1.5 hours of formal training. I just don't know what to think really -

Thanks for all the comments. He did a normal poo this morning but there was nothing in it. I just don't know right now. He ate his brekky with gusto as normal. He looks a bit flat right now, but he is normally having a snooze at this time so I can't really tell if he is feeling unwell. We have the trainer coming over in a couple of hours and he is normally super excited to see her so this will probably show if he is feeling poorly. -

Thanks TerriS, The worst thing is that I cannot be 100% that he did swallow it. I am pretty sure he did though. I just don't really know how long it will take to come out and If I should be worried if I don't find it tomorrow? -
