I am all for using more natural remedies when possible, but don't think I would risk using a product like the "Faith" or similar for worms etc. At around $150 for a jar of this stuff, I would need some pretty good convincing to give it a go. No doubt this thread will head down a similar path to the Super boost one (hopefully without the tragedy at the end) I would be very interested in hearing about the efficacy of the ingredients. Regarding Holistic Veterinary, I thought that is was a specialised field that some took after the normal degree was obtained and followed therapies complimentary to tradition veterinary??

In addition to the excellent advice above, get her plenty of stuff to chew on as she will be teething. Some people have luck with a wet face washer/flannel, frozen, but my boy never really too to it. We had the most luck with frozen chicken necks, frozen carrots and bully sticks, Bully sticks are great as you should get a bit of chewing time out of them at 16 weeks. Cow hooves are also good but they stink initially, but I found that after a couple of rinses they no longer pong.

Thin Danes One With Severe Arthritis
Yonjuro replied to HappyCamper's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am also not a fan of corn in dog foods. You could try the new food Sunday Pets, they have a large/giant breed formula. I would also be more inclined to add a joint supplement rather that the J/d food. Something like Sasha's Blend or Pernease or one of the VANs supplements and fish oil. If you are going to use fish oil please make sure there is enough vitamin E in the diet as higher doses of such oils will cause a vitamin E deficiency that will cause more problems. Some of the pet versions have E added so you don't need to worry about adding it. There is also research that indicates that turmeric added to food is excellent for treating arthritis so maybe look into this as well. I will also add that I have no experience with giant breeds so my comments are quite general in nature. I wish you all the best with your danes and their health issues. -
I am so sorry to hear this. You did everything possible and then some.

As distasteful as the owners viewpoints are, if the supplement is helping your dog then it is probably best if you can try and ignore the rest of the crap and just focus on your dog's health.

Thanks LisaCC The collar is a Non-Stop Dogwear half check, they are excellent! http://www.non-stopdogwear.no/eng/Our-products/Dog-collars# They come from Norway but there is an Aussie distributor who sells them to the public. http://www.malusky.com.au -

Ahhh, tempt me not :D I think the spitz temperament is often made out to be worse than it really is. This is probably a good thing to try and dissuade naive potential owners who are not prepared to put the work in that they require. They are very very smart and can certainly be stubborn and need lots of training LOL. But a lot of this really goes for any dog that you want to be a good canine citizen, it just needs a bit more work than average but I would guess that not much more than an Aussie???? A good sibe breeder + good owner + training = great dog :) Having said all that, he can be a cheeky bugger when he wants to! -
What about a Schnauzer of the Standard or Giant form? I only have experience with the mini variety and I know the different sizes are almost like 3 separate breeds so hopefully others with experience in the two larger sizes will have more input as to whether they would be a viable option. I also agree with what others have said in that training will be crucial in having the dog you wish to own. I am not sure what breed will tick all of your boxes, but careful selection of breeder and a professional trainer will certainly give you the best chance of fulfilling your desires.

Thanks LisaCC, As I have said before your Nova is a spunk. I have never really known much about Aussies but yours really turned my attention. We met a lovely one at a fenced in dog park the other day and she was beautiful and of similar colouring to Nova, Ronin and her hit it off straight away.... must resist, must resist ,must resist :D -
Thank you Red Fox

I do think you make some valid points, however if we look at one of the ingredients which I would hazard a guess is the main and active ingredient of the "bandage" and also the supplement- it is Turmeric. Turmeric is not a new age hippy thing. It has been used for thousands of years and is being researched extensively for its western medical properties and its uses - and one of them is cancer. Interestingly, pharmaceutical company Johnsons make a turmeric impregnated bandaid for the Indian market. So this AA wonder ingredient is not really unique or far removed from science. The following link has a little info and cites sources, should you be interested in finding out more. I have not gone into any great research either, but there is research out there if you are prepared to look for it. http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/turmeric I don't think there is ever anything that is suitable for all people and all dogs, it is just not possible. Turmeric may indeed have contraindications with some medications. The idea of a vegan dog disturbs me greatly, but if all other avenues have been exhausted and the dog can eat the vegan meal with a modicum of enjoyment and function well, then I don't think it is such a bad thing.
