  1. Friskie is now 20 and doing fine
  2. We now have 17 of these Koolies with foster carers and some look like foster failures.
  3. Koolies do like a career - Perry had several jobs in her lifetime - she worked sheep, modelled, visited old people's homes, was a part-time carer for a neighbour who was dying from cancer; had roles in two Japanese films and was my full time companion.
  4. UPDATE!The first five Koolie Rescues have completed their medical needs. All are desexed, micro-chipped and inoculated and in good health, no flea/worms.Transport has been organised and they will be joining their foster cares over the next few days.Though initially very frightened many have calmed down and give us every confidence with a little rehab, training, patiences and a lot of TLC these Koolie Rescue will be available for adoption soon
  5. As soon as I have more information I will pass it on. They come from a farm, have been neglected, So I doubt they have had much training
  6. Both emails should work. The ACT Companion Dog Club is a good idea. We don't have the dogs yet and have no more information than I have already put in here - we are just trying to prepare for the deluge. If your farmer friend contacts one of the email addresses someone will keep him informed.
  7. What happened is sub judice and I cannot say anything, not least because I don't know anything. Transport may be very useful, yes in ordinary cars, just fill in a form and contact Christine at the email address on the top post.
  8. We are always looking for foster carers and an amazing number of fosters end up as foster failures. Let me know when you are ready. It could be up to 75 - we are only a small rescue so don't know how we are going to cope but we will give it our best shot.
  9. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to live with a Koolie here is your opportunity. Australian Koolie Rescue is about to have a massive influx of dogs needing foster carers. There will be 50+ dogs, they're currently getting medical care before they're ready to go. But wwe are looking for as many people as possible, preferably with knowledge of working dogs, to put their hands up to help. Anyone who is wanting to help in any way(even for transport) please pop out to AKRs website (https://www.koolierescue.org.au/forms) and download, fill in and send the foster form, so they can locate you when transport or assistance is needed. Send it to [email protected]
  10. We saw a different vet and she is on new medication for a month.
  11. I will take her tomorrow - thank you.
  12. I doubt she would be happy in them - she has always hated being touched - I don't know what her previous home was like but I think she may have been punished for anything like this.
  13. Koolies are ideal - I am retired and have two. They can also be long lived - I have a ten year old and a nineteen year old. Loyal, intelligent, easy to train, like to learn things, excellent company.
  14. Friskie is a 19 (almost 20) year old Koolie. I adopted her when her previous owner died - she was 14 at the time. She is still lively, has an amazingly good appetite although she has always been skinny as a rake. She runs around the house - sometimes with a look of "I know I came in here for something but I cannot remember what". Her back legs are going and her rear end is constantly wet and no treatment has worked. She seems perfectly happy and not in pain but my carpets and furniture are suffering. An expensive operation on her back mayor may not help but she may not survive the anaesthetic. I am very undecided on what to do and would appreciate others' opinions.
  15. Friskie is 18 and until recently would happily do 3-5km but now she just wants to stay around the house.
  16. Poor pup - he deserved to die of a ripe old age - not a bloody snake.
  17. Costco sell large Australian ones for about $17 for a bag which I think has 12 - my Koolies love them.
  18. Her ashes came home yesterday - I am really missing her.
  19. Perry never went a day without making me smile and that continues.
  20. Yes she is - that has always been my favourite photo of her - the first time she had her sheep together and under control - she was so proud of herself but had no idea what to do next.
  21. Yes she is - that has always been my favourite photo of her too - the first time had her sheep together and under control.
  22. Perry, my much loved long coated Koolie, decided to leave yesterday - she could not get up yesterday morning, I called the vet who took her back to the hospital and then transferred her to the specialist hospital here. She had a heart attack when she arrived and a second shortly afterwards. I am devastated but at least she did not suffer for long.
  23. Friskie is great and she has typical Koolie ears - not the biggest I have seen but beautifully soft and silky - I think I was very lucky to get her.
