Poor Kenz -
That's really enlightening Grand. Bordering off topic, do you know how council pounds differ in their assessments from rescues? It's something I've been wondering for awhile as it seems dogs can really hang around for awhile before they're PTS, which feels like a double edged sword (around longer = increased chance of adoption/rescue noticing but also = increase in pound related problems = decrease in adoption??)

Oh dear, here you go blink: LINK Some people may find the pictures disturbing, FYI. Edit: Beaten by a minute!

it's fascinating seeing so many colours spread across a couple of breeds, delightful variety! Amazing! Same dog, different sides!

I'm sad to hear she's still so sore after all this time. Is she getting any pain relief? I know you're meant to get them out and about seeing other dogs as soon as you can (so i've been told?? not necessarily interacting) but I don't know how willing a pup in pain would be :/ wish i could give some useful advice! hang in there kenz! -
Did you see the mix and match 2 for 3 deal? I fell for it XD

I hope Thistle shows no interest, Talie/Snook. I didn't even know she was out! D: I've done another round of my fences and I'm feeling a bit paranoid now, about the older railing fence up the back. But the gate that got blown open is pretty solidly shut now. I hope her being herded by strangers gave her a fright. Dear dog, DONT LEAVE THE BACKYARD YOU WILL GET SQUISHED OR LOST AND I WILL BE VERY UPSET. Aww, that's pretty considerate of the officers. And good to get confirmation that nobody was harmed recently. How is Justice? -
Sooooo small!

Cuddles! I open my arm while sitting down and she launches herself from whatever she's doing, cuddles in close, flips herself around and present tummy for pats -

My gate got damaged in monday's wind storm, but I didn't know, and Thistle got out tonight D: Thankfully the people across the road were going out to dinner and they herded her into the front yard and knocked on my door. I've done a bunnings runner and padlocked the gate shut now (looks like the latch got broken, I can't find the latch??) My concern is, is she going to get wanderlust from this? Or get the confidence to try and get out of the yard? The foster carers had her get out a few times but she "never strayed and hung around the front" - however my neighbours say she was on the road in front of my house! Which very quickly turns into a highway. Not to mention all the front yard dogs and feral cats she might chase and get lost... Fretting a bit :C No harm done to Thistle, she was a bit worried about being herded into the corner, the guy was keeping her cornered there while the lady knocked on my door. But she's not harmed and they didn't chase or try to grab her so no social setbacks. The best outcome I really wish I had the $ to get the front yard gate reattached so I have a double gate system with the back and front :s even though she's primarily indoor, i let her go out back on nice days to roll around and chew her bones. Such a small thing could lead to a dire situation! -

Could you bring in a behaviourist to witness first hand and assess what's going on/beginning steps? I found mine a major source in comfort and understanding the time needed for the pup She still gets on with your other dogs? Perhaps a test run on lead with a friends leashed dog - you can see at what point she becomes alert/tense/over threshold and you can plan your next steps? Snook is great at explaining LAT -
Most in home dog fights I have witnessed were few and what I now consider a "scuffle" - loud but with minimal touching and injuries, quickly broken up with a yell or clap or water. Usually a younger teen pushing boundaries with older established dogs and not taking the hints. The one in April between my new dogs had no obvious trigger, went from usual friendly sniffing to "scuffle" to serious holding on and injury in a blink of an eye. It was very violent and stunning in its viciousness, went through a window and kept holding on. Thistle stood no chance. They were fed separately, best of friends etc etc but sometimes shit happens I surrendered the aggressor and 3 weeks later after failing all behavioural tests she was PTS. I'm still very sad about it but there is no way I could handle her and I need to focus on rebuilding thistles confidence around dogs.

I'm so sorry to hear this has happened to Kenz. I would think that while she is still in pain from her injury she may still be recalling the attack and on heightened alert? I know I get cranky and worried when sore :s -
Happy gotcha day!

I'm so glad! He just needs a bit more time to recover than an unaffected dog but he seems to be bouncing back a bit more each time! Go Justice! And I agree, I think the crash course you get in dog behaviour and all the extra steps you have to take, make for a much closer bond than the average owner who doesn't need to. Maybe because you notice the faults and work harder to strengthen and build the trust? It certainly seems to me, across all the species I've had, it's the ones who have needed a bit of extra work or help for whatever reason that mostly hold a special place. A couple of exceptions of course, lol. We are having some nights in, my car is in the shop and with longer days more ppl walking dogs offlead locally. Sticking to backyard games. -
I get you sas. There's one street around here I no longer walk near with or without a dog. Ignoring the house with roaming two aggressive littles (all bark and follow) there's another one with a GSD that throws itself at the gate trying to get to you. This gate is getting more worn and I've left a council note, don't feel safe at all! It's very alarming to walk pass. (For those who track my posts, this is not the GSD I fondly refer to as "angry GSD". That one is improving!) The idea a dog could break in and hurt my dog...well I already know how I'll respond to that and it's horrifying! Fingers crossed thistle doesn't get attacked again and fingers crossed I keep my head and break it up. But each time is different, everything goes so fast and I am aware I can't help if I'm being attacked too! Like snook, after being in an attack of that magnitude and trying to help my dog recover (big enough to survive, would be dead if little) - I see most dog rushes as scuffles and will step between the two to prevent a fight escalate. There's another little I've stumbled across who will follow and bark, whixh I'm confident I could handle but anything staffie size and up, on my own? By the dog I'll do my best but I can't guarantee. At least if it's in my house I can grab weapons but in the street? But there's an extra level of horror at it breaking into and happening in your home I think. I'm not sure what I'll do if there's another serious attack on us, it feels me with such dread and anxiety. I'm still not comfortable around dogs of similar type and temperament. It really impacts you. Even though my house an yard are almost a fortress I inspect it thoroughly. I don't want my dog getting out or other dogs getting in. Sorry for the word length, just retyping this brings up lingering anxiety. Don't want it to happen to anyone! Ever! As either the victim dog owner or the attacking dog owner! Horrible.
-
Horrible for everyone around, its natural to worry about off lead dogs roaming about but I think most people don't expect dogs to break into their houses http://m.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/families-demand-justice-after-dogs-slaughtered-before-their-eyes-20151123-gl653b.html All so sad. Poor kids, poor owners on both sides.

I would think at minimum, while waiting on the trainer, to keep her muzzled and leashed to you at all times or securely contained when not able to do so i.e sleep. I'm concerned about your health as well, as what if she redirects on you? Escalating so fast and strong is a major worry imo. Have you been to see a vet to make sure it's nothing medical? Apologies if you have mentioned elsewhere. -
Totally agreed huski. A lot of our training foods also accounts for a large portion of the meals of the day so I try to keep away from kabana etc all those yummies that make great treats but not great in excess. I'll stretch it for Devon on occasion but usually I just fry up raw dog meat or semi dry it. This week is diced beef heart and roo + black hawk dry (fish). Obviously I'm not hardcore raw XD
-
Ooooohhhhh. Great idea! I don't mind handing raw personally. But if I'm training in a public place I'd like to limit the chance of spreading disease while also giving the dog "moist" high value treats. It's a hard balance..... Jules, what is that?
-
Idk I'd be tempted to stay and lurk to see how far the "meat rules" go XD Is this the raw thread in dol? Might do so. they probably have good ideas for high value treats I'm game to handhold.

Hard core, prey model raw facebook group. No vegies of any description. No if, buts, maybes. Do they let their dogs eat grass? What about intestines with veg matter in them? Not poking fun, Just curious about the line. And I use raw meat in training every night ;) I put her raw dinner in her bowl. Do a leave it. Then we clicker train on topic of the night (tonight was pivoting). After I click I pick up a spoon and scoop some out for her. So very convulated raw treat training lol ;)
