Oh that's reassuring that we are progressing in a desirable direction? (I don't yet know what next steps are, this is just stuff the trainer has instructed us to do. Suppose I'll find out if we advance tomorrow!) >_>; I've been slacking this week. I hope thistles training hasn't suffered for it. Mostly duration commands and mat... :s and I've been lazy and just giving her dinner instead of impulse control <_<; She has shark teeth and isn't gentle at all at getting treats! I'm going to lose my fingers one day. GENTLE PLS -

Ah I see. Yeah, I think mine is more she sees her trigger and fixates on it (provided it isn't something moving suddenly towards us and causing her to bolt). So I guess we're more on reducing that so she can calm herself down by looking away. Interesting how different dogs have different coping methods -

Hmm. I think thistles intent could be changed, as mostly she's just lacking in confidence + the bad experiences. She did get along with dogs prior to the attack and I don't know if her new fear of dogs is wholly the attack - I think a bit of it is she doesn't have a big dog buddy who can sniff the dog first and let her know it's okay, so she's more likely to regard everything as a threat. Mostly sudden movements or being rushed. But she has shown interest in "being social" with other dogs. Quick polite nose sniffs and the like. But then she gets overwhelmed and goes back to "SPACE!!" So I think her intent of "making dogs go away be trying to growl or nip at them" can be changed to "making them go away be ignoring/not responding" with a side of approved calm buddies :) I might try justices look game. It's different to ours kind of, ours she gets rewarded for looking at dog then back at me - and if the scenario calls for if, sitting quietly, yawning, dropping, looking away from dog etc etc I also think she is a very "intent" dog? Like, she doesn't really bark. Her reactivity is going very still and staring. Actually she gets the stares a lot, so maybe some BC or similar in there. So she looks rude to other dogs who stare back and then she gets upset they are staring and *redirects attention* -

Oh well done Bonnie!! You must be so proud! -
101 games to play with a box is a great start because everything you click is "correct"! It can help you practice your timing and help your dog think "outside" the box :D

We have already lost a dog in the whittlesea council area this month I've been keeping an eye on my grass

Ah a scenario like that sounds like a dream! *_* I had jims mowing over today while at work. Great chance to test what she's like when I'm not there while she's indoors. The fella said she didn't bark, but she did stand and watch him the whole time through the window. He was just pruning my trees in the powerlines for me, I've still got to get home and bundle the branches up. Glad to find she's not a barker or reacting through the window. Yeah my best friends are really accomodating. I'm trying to catch the girl who works there with the calm small spaniel that we had a nice greeting with, hope to have another quick sit, chill, sniff, sit session. A calming influence for thistle to practice those polite sniffs on :) -

actually with Greyhounds it's know your states laws. Here in Vic Greyhounds are not allowed off lead even in off lead parks. On lead at all times 'cept for private property and Dogs Vic sanctioned events. And always muzzled unless a GAP dog whether they need it or not. Pardon if I've misread but I thought greyhound in vic who pass a special test are exempt from the rules? Just there's a person in next suburb over with 2 handsome ones and I've never seen muzzles and sometimes there's greys in the fenced off lead park (we hang around outside the park at a distance for training) and they're offlead and not muzzled so I figured they'd passed this special test? (They're on lead and not muzzled when out of the park) GAP greyhounds are the only ones who can go muzzle free in Victoria and they are supposed to wear a green collar signalling they are GAP greys. Laws may have changed since I last looked but no, no greyhound is allowed off lead in a public place in Victoria, unless competing in a Dogs Vic sanctioned event. Not everyone abides by it. I take my greys to my local obedience club (I'm a member) grounds which is fully fenced with 8 foot high cyclone fencing and allow them off lead, but it is owned by the dog club, not a public place and most certainly not an off lead dog park. But they are muzzled for the first 10 minutes or so due to high arousal :) Cool! I do not recall the colour of their collars but I'll assume in good faith they have passed, since no interest in getting up close anyway ;) The ones I've seen off lead seem to actually listen to their owners in the park. Pretty sure I read somewhere dogs are only allowed off lead in parks if they're obedient but unfortunately not enforced like so many other things so you'll never know what you're getting. Thought of another etiquette: if your dog is sick or recovering, don't go in. To prevent both contagious and dog being more sore than usual. -

D: Just D: My best friends is so nice, they're giving me the heads up that they're doing free nail triming Friday night so the store will probably be packed (and thus TOO busy for nightly social dog rehab). I'll go to petbarn instead. She's getting her nails trimmed by a vet on Saturday because last week I got her quick and I'm too scared to try again All these are of course exhausting for her and I expect she'll shut down during the nail trim. But dog classes are back on on Sunday so I hope we can keep slowly progressing. (Oh how I wish we could move up to her ignoring dogs running up! It's not like it'd be hard, she looms over most dogs! Just raise your head and look away and the feathered headed off leader will probably run off to find a more interesting dog!) -

I would suggest that if it's an on lead dog park or a dog park that has designated hours when dogs are to be on lead, you obey the rules and leash your dog. Obey rules on signs full stop. *frustration and wish people at the on lead park would obey the rules so we could walk there too. the park hogs* Also do not throw food around in a dog park. I saw someone doing that once - just throwing food around and making a crowd of dogs and 5 minutes later - dog fight! The owners broke it up, one of them told the person feeding off. Don't let dogs "work it out" - it's the owners job to intervene and keep the dogs comfortable. That includes if your dog is being obnoxious or rude to other dogs. Distract the dogs, move away, keep everything happy. I'm really don't think young children should be in a park. Dogs can be unused to them and the chance of an accident is too high :/ don't bring your young ones to the park with you. You need to keep an eye on your dog! And don't take too many dogs? I've seen people go in with like 4 dogs each and just let them loose. How can you keep an eye on 4 dogs going 4 ways? -

I didn't know lime keeps cats away. I've already decided on what to replace the grapes with but I do have a small second lemon tree I can replace. And eventually plan to get rid of a lot of cement in the backyard = more tree space! (I'm a fan of trees over open yard space) -

Urgh I hope you gave dirty looks back at them? I wish rangers would actually roam about and fine people for not having control of their offlead dogs. The councils would make loads of money and the dogs would be safer! Imagine if their lab had tripped and gone under your wheels?! My trainer says to put up the biggest fuss if someone's dog approaches me offlead (whether I have a dog with me or not) so they realise not eveyone wants to have their dog jumping on them. Nothing major just stuff like "bad dog go home!" So sick of ppl thinking letting their dog be rude is good behaviour >_> I'm glad his tooth is out and not causing trouble :) doing so well! -

Dog Muzzles For Australian Bulldogs
Two Best Dogs! replied to AUSB1976's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think with a muzzle you'll find you walk more confident which will hopefully help him relax more. He could still give other dogs a nasty bruise if he "nose punches" them but much better than a bite. Someone I know got theirs from here http://www.bulldog-breeds-store.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3 I think the ones with less covering and a bit of padding will be better come summer -

Now come next week, to have a meeting with my manager around working extra hours so i can have every second monday off for "recreational purposes" aka take the dog to kepala during the quiet hours! I wish there were more places like this, it's so nice to have a place to chill and relax without having to worry about uncontrolled dogs running up. -

I really like the agility section n_n it's a little further away/more obscured from view of the other dogs than the grass ones are and it's got more things for her to check out and desensitise against. At one point someone went into one near us and she could see it through the gate so got worried again, in her freeze-and-stare-rudely type way but we just walked further up. idk if you can see it but i've got her vest displayed facing the entry (yellow blob on far right). oh! while playing fetch she found a good spot to pee so she dropped the ball and...peed...all...over...the...ball...fetch ruined :/ -

Awww well done Justice! It's so nice to hear him progressing! Hopefully one day soon you can go for relaxing walks again without fear of other dogs! We went to kepala today, just for fun with no out-of-the-normal training. She got a bit worried over dogs in the other parks and wouldn't go in the water for it, but still some fun energy burning (pics in my thread) Tomorrow there's no official dog classes so I'm meeting up with a bunch of random people who attend the classes and we're going to do our own training session at the usual time and place. Idk what they're planning but we're going to practice sit/drops/stays and end-of-lead-recalls around the other dogs. -
Dog Friendly Fruit Trees?
Two Best Dogs! replied to Two Best Dogs!'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeah, she's gonna eat that bat poo quick-fast. Bad enough the borderline feral cats are always crapping in the yard. I think I've made a decision - blueberries AND kiwi fruit. Blueberries at the base of this giant frame and kiwis growing up it. Looks like I need a ratio of 1 male kiwi to 6 female kiwis, i'll try to get away with 1 male/3 female and I'll buy the bigger blueberry bushes. Not much for shade but I can try to train them to make a "roof" thanks people :D honestly wouldn't have thought of either of those. -

This one had grapes on it when I first moved in (but before I got the dog) so I suspect it's a producer :s a fig tree is good, i could make so much with that. Same with cherry tree. How am I meant to choose D: -
I need to update my records, I accidentally lied. The 20kg I bought was $101. I bought some bones with it bringing my whole purchase up to $117. Woops! Still couldn't find Ivory Coat in my best friends so going to ask if they'll bring it in (and antlers!). Won't buy it for awhile as we're good for a few months now

I'd rather not risk it and it's no hardship, I'm not a fan of grapes. Much rather have something I'll eat and can trade with other people for stuff. Prob should have mentioned I have a lemon tree! She's a walking trash can XD if it fits in her mouth she will eat it! I didn't know about that website thanks I better keep climate in mind. Dunno if she's so interested in pits tho. Maybe I can do some tests with non bad fruit from coles, see which she ignores. I like the suggestion of apricot. And kiwi fruit. It's a rather nice frame/stand the grapes are on so I could probably put a hammock under it or something. Nah I want fruit too! We have a gardeners swap market at work I want in on. I miss living out rural I do have a rhododendron but it's going in a different spot. Ohhh mulberry sounds like a good potential, gonna look around for types of that one. Thank you. And mandarin. Time to visit Bunnings with the dog, grab her a sausage and me a plant XD I'm afraid I don't like passion fruit or olives I have horrible taste but whatever I plant I've gotta live with! Maybe blue berries can go nearby cause yum?!?
