  1. Terrorbull, I have the same problem with my Rotty trying to jump up, grab the lead, and play tug with it. I also hav a problem with her wanting to herd or 'stalk' me and wants me to chase her! My only solution is to distract her with a quick series of, come fore, down, reward or quick heeling to get past the problem. I'm hoping to understand more of these issues after I've done some work with Steve on a 1 on 1 session
  2. 'Now bring out your dogs food, show it to your dog, & begin to walk out in front of your dog, your looking for that moment in distance that your dog looks like the food wasn't for him or her after all. Basically taking the dog just out of full food drive.' What does 'walk out in front mean' I take it you are carrying the food in the bowl. Do you mean walk past the dog?
  3. Some pics of the day http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/reddo...ive%20training/
  4. Excellent work, Steve, I notice you train with the words Sitz, Platz ( Drop stay in drive), Futz ( Heel from front)( spelling?) How important is it to use these as against the normal sit, drop, heel commands? and do you also use sit, drop, heel still?
  5. Jefe's owners, I don't think the people who approached you were on the RCNSW Committee or organisers of the Fun Day. I also hope this thread dosen't turn into a RCNSW bashing exercise. What happened to you was distressing for yourselves and I imagine the organisers especially Wednesday, who put so much effort into this day. The RCNSW Committee investigated the matter of prong collars in 2004 and received advice that the importation of the collars is illegal, but having them is not illegal, even those made in Australia, but using them in a particular way could be subject to charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Advice from the Animal Welfare League is that: “If a person chooses to use a prong collar on a dog and the dog either lunges forward or the handler pulls the lead attached to the collar it would constitute an act of cruelty as defined under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. It should also be noted that these collars are a prohibited import into Australia under Federal Legislation but there is no stipulation that they cannot be made in Australia.” We have also received similar advice from the RSPCA: “Prong collars are not illegal in NSW. Having said this, if an owner was to pull on the collar and cause injury to the dog because of the prongs, there would be cause to prosecute under the Prevention of Cruelty Act.” It a seems if the dog does not seem overly aggressive to other dogs, or if the owner is not a very good trainer himself then he has no need to have it on his dog in the first place. I hope this clears it up for you.
  6. Jefe's owners, It was truly unfortunate that you were treated this way. I'm not sure of the ruling as far as the Bill Spilstead complex is concerned, who the woman was that approached you, or who the man was. However, I'm sure the Rotty club will investigate what happened. I did want to clarify that the check chain incidents did not happen during the Fun Day and were at your club. There seems to be such positive from the Fun Day that I'm sure this type of incident won't happen again.
  7. I had a great day. Thanks to those people who did the demos. It was nice to meet some new people. I am amazed that so much can be taught & learnt in such a short time. Oh and the dobes looked very nice. But will we ever meet Helga??

  12. Thanks, I'm on the case. ETA Thanks Shona ! I've got some organised.
  13. Oh YUK I'm sitting here with my top lip curling up to my nose thinking about it I leave a whole egg on top of the meat. My Rotty eats the meat then ever so gently takes the egg in her mouth, finds a sunny spot to lay down, verrryy gently, then CRUSH.. and she eats shell and all
  14. MM I use the genuine Barf. Thanks for the numbers. Spoke to Chris ( nice man)and yes he makes Barf but also makes Big Dog which is more for the greyhound market. He is porcessing 3 tonnes of Barf over the weekend and hopes to get supplies to Sydney next week.
  15. Thanks MM I didn'y know that Barf was made by Big Dog Pet foods. Thats interesting. I just got onto Ian Billinghurst and he said they were moving the Qld factory. Didn't say anything about BDPF making it. Do you use Big Dog? is it similar to Barf? I am a bit niggly that they never told me that supplies would be short.
  16. Does anyone have a contact for the Barf manufacturing plant in Queensland. I am getting totally P****d with this company. I have been using Barf for 3 months ans haven't been able to get supplies for 2 weeks. Is anybody in the same boat? ETA There moving factory to larger premises. Supplies should be available in 10 days..
  17. How long does that last? I feed 1 patty in the morning ( 227 grams) with some puppy mince (200 grams) and two patties at evening. I change this about for variety every 3-4 days I also alternate with some chicken mince every 3 days or so. Each Barf roll has 12 patties ,each weighing 227 grams. thats about $6.60 / kg But, I like it as I don't have to make it and store it. and the dog loves it.
  18. Ab, I buy mine from the BARF agent in Sydney Sharryn 0416 146 732. I pay $60.00 for 4 rolls home delivered.
  19. I've swithched my pup, 8 month 38 kg Rotty, over to the genuine article and they've been great. I still have bones and chicken carcasses but the whole diet is built around the BARF patties. I get 4 different varieties for 60.00 and free home delivery.
