Oh I'm so very sorry Animals really do steal our hearts and take a piece with them when they leave :D RIP Ricky

Oh I have wanted for years to get some DVDs from Leerburg!! I'm flying over for pizza and dog movies too, is that OK?

It wasn't the kibble he didn't like he was just refusing to eat, even the kibble he'd been eating since he was first moved to adult food. He's just a stubborn dog

Well after two days of feeding Kovu in front of him and not even offering any food to Daegon, he is now eating again Yesterday I offered him food twice and he cleaned the bowl both times, today so far he's had two meals, he'll have at least one more. I'm starting off with small amounts and will gradually increase them to get the weight back on him. Even after just eating for two days he looks much better, he's usually impossible to get weight on but now he's making a liar out of me Thanks for the tips Saltwood, making him look for more food each meal seems to be working, and I'll increase what I offer him gradually. He really didn't like not even being offered food...he looked so sad like he felt he was never going to get fed again Worked though

No, couldn't possibly have been you

What was someone saying to me about asking a question and not wanting certain answers? *scratches head*

Elizabethan collar, or a bucket

Kibble is just another word for dry food  People will always have their own opinions on what is best to feed. Bottom line is you feed what is best for YOU and YOUR dog, not what is best for someone else

Some dogs will do well on BARF others wont, same with kibbles. One of my dogs does OK on BARF, the other looked a mess so they are both on kibble meals with things added in like eggs, sardines in oil, fruit, vegies, meat, natural yoghurt etc. There is nothing wrong with feeding a good quality kibble. If I could afford to feed my guys on Royal Canin they would absolutely be on that, I believe that it is a very good food.

How Do I Find His Off Switch?
shekhina replied to Shakti's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Kovu is just like this, I could make him run up and down hills all day and he would still want to keep going through the night. He is so bad that whenever I walk out the backyard when he's out there he runs around like a madman looking for *anything* that could even remotely be considered a fetch toy...like a piece of string...and no I am not kidding. He gets FRANTIC about finding something for me to play with him with, it can be a piece of string, the corner of a peg, a blade of grass left on the conrete, a small pebble, anything that is not concreted to the ground is fair game...drives me NUTS! :D He has started to settle down now that I have started drive training with him, he is calmer inside and only really goes crazy when it's work time...but I must admit it hasn't curbed his frantic search for some kind of toy everytime I walk outside -
Herding With A Rotti And A Gsd

Yes, I know it's what I want, but it makes it very difficult to get the dog to pay attention to anything but those sheep...but that will come. I was VERY pleasantly surprised at seeing Daegon has so much drive, he hasn't really shown any until seeing sheep, it was like a big light bulb went on inside, he became a totally different dog -

Yes, that very high drive sure gets in the way! -

I will be a lot happier when they're both in muzzles, then I can concentrate on actually getting them to do what I want without worrying about the sheep getting hurt. That and a prong collar for them both -

Oh yes, it's so much more exciting than obedience :D Thanks wylie for putting me in touch with the lovely lady who kindly took me today Both dogs need to show a little LESS interest, especially Daegon. Muzzles for them both -

I'm here I had a great time today, I sucked at it, but it was still heaps of fun! Both the dogs showed a lot of interest so that was great. I was very shocked with Daegon because he is normally such a docile, lazy, scardey cat...but he saw the sheep and lit up like I have NEVER seen him before. He's a very high drive dog when it suits him that's for sure. I need to learn how to switch that drive on for the show ring It was great to see the other (well behaved ) dogs working, and to see the way different breeds went about the job, very educational. Can't wait for next time, and I will be practising those stops coz boy do you need them! :D I was told my boys are the first of their breed in the state to have a go at herding, so they better do a good job -
RIP Chevy What a good innings though! I hope that mine all reach that age :D

OK well Daegon's throat is fine, he's just being a stubborn bastard...some days I could strangle this dog :D Thanks for those tips Saltwood, I will definitely give them a go if the Nutrigel doesn't fix his appetite to start with
-
He gets either Bonnie Working Dog or Great Barko kibbles, with sardines in oil, egg, natural yoghurt etc. every few days. He also gets a meat mix of all kinds of stuff as well as chicken wings/frames/drumsticks (which he has also refused at one stage in this 4-6 week period). I'm going to check his throat soon, I'm just waiting for my foster to be picked up

Shes about 12 weeks now i take her for a 2or 3 k walk most days, Is this too much? Not enough? Far too much. Large breed puppies should only be walked for very short amounts of time, maybe 10 minutes at the most...they shouldn't be walking long distances until they're 12 months old
-
What should they look like and what should they definitely not look like? I just know I'll be wasting another $40 getting him seen to only to have them tell me he's stubborn...I know that already
-
I wish Daegon was scoffing his food down looking for more
-
Thanks guys. Yes Warley Daegon has been on one tablet of Zinc everday since you told me about it. I am so frustrated some days I could honestly strangle the bast...ah, darling. I think I'll try the nutrigel first...but geez it's pricey, especially when you're giving it to such a big, heavy dog. If that doesn't work I'll then try the Periactin...I don't feel very comfortable shoving anti-histamines down his throat. If that doesn't work, I'm going to shoot the bast...ah, darling.

No, I haven't him checked out for his eating issues...he did get a general check up before his first adult booster shot around 2-3 weeks ago though and he was fine. What could be wrong internally? Perhaps I should take him back and ask about this particular issue? Bloody hell, I want some of that sauce Will look out for it in the supermarket next time I'm in there ETA: no I haven't tried the Nutrigel, I have been meaning too though. My mum suggested Pentavite...I think that is the human formula? Apparently I was worse than Daegon as a baby...I was a non-thriver...wish I was a non-thriver now

Daegon has been hardly eating for the past, I'm guessing, 4-6 weeks. I have been very strict with him and pick his food up in 10 minutes if it's not eaten but it's not making a smidge of difference. He was a fussy baby for a while, but after getting strict with him then he ate well again and has done up until recently. He is thin (not dangerously thin, but he looks like a Dobermann, not a Rottweiler) and not even the new road work exercise is increasing his hunger. I NEED him to eat more and gain weight, this is getting ridiculous and I am starting to get extremely frustrated. I've tried satin balls, didn't even want those...even the mince stuff he used to love he doesn't really care for. He eats just enough to get by every day and that's it, even with Kovu eating right next to him now for 'encouragement'. I just don't know what to do anymore Can anyone tell me a sure way to get him really hungry so that he will eat? PLEASE?? Why can't he be like other dogs and want to eat all day?
