When Buying From A Registered Breeder Poll 1
pebbles replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
My first show dog was through the listings in the 'KCC' magazine (as it was way back then) and reasonably local to me at the time, 50+ years ago. Since then all but one of my dogs have been through personal contact. That's how I've been into a few breeds, gone to see someone's litter and fallen for a pup. Hasn't always worked but mostly I've done well with them and only myself to blame if things don't work out! For studs I like to see what they are throwing first. The only pup I ever got sight unseen from a top (?) breeder interstate was a distaster show wise but a beautiful pet. Breed clubs - been a member of a couple but the politics get a bit much at times. (And the fist fight in the ring between two female exhibitors didn't do much either lol.) The only time I've waited for a pup was the interstate one and that was a waste of time. Now I live miles from many show people I resist the emails they send me of their new litters, really don't need too many more pups at my age (Maybe just one more ) -
Next Door Neighbours Cat In My Backyard
pebbles replied to Adnil444's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've had similar situations with a cat and also a pup, both from different places. I spoke to both owners and asked if they minded if I were to hose the animals when they came in my place. Both lots were ok with this and I found a couple of good drenchings with the hose on full blast cured both cat and pup from coming anywhere near. Found this method better than a bucket, you don't have to get so close and risk the water coming back and drenching the wrong critter, lol. -
Ishy, hope you enjoy your camping Fifi - no 'come-back' this time, Farnham is safe! Ultra sound was a fizzer, damn :D
-
Sheesh, fifi if I could get paid like some do for a 'come back' then it would be once a month lol. Just gotta get the dog I'm happy to show. Different when there were a few in the kennels and litters bred to my ideas. Haven't bred a litter for so long I feel like a novice but reckon it will give me a bit of choice for a dog/bitch to show again. Better hurry up or I'll have to get Sibes to pull my wheelchair

Yep, we have had some fun miss my dog shows but my girl should be whelping about the end of this month so 'I MAY BE BACK' Ultrasound on Thursday. PS. A gas heater can be very handy, gets mighty cold some mornings and evenings.

When I camp at a show I only have the one gazebo which I put up at ring side and park behind it. The gazebo has the dog stuff in it, a small gas stove, table, chairs, esky with the food and a gas light. My car, a van, has my bed in it and all I have to do is not sleep in and miss my call - after having Afghans years ago, always said I'd never get an 'A' again so what have I got - Aussie Silky and Gp 1 is always first! This was at Echuca, really hot so I settled for under a shady tree and just took the dog over to the ring in the trolley.l My gazebo has solid walls and mesh ones as well and I use both when it's hot, just drop the solid walls for privacy.

Travelling On Spirit Of Tasmania With Dogs.
pebbles replied to cherokee's topic in General Dog Discussion
A few years ago I went on a extended drive through a few States with my Border Terrier and 2 Min. Pins. Went across to Magnetic Island on the ferry. This wasn't anywhere near as big and stable as the 'Spirits'. Dogs were left in the car and as it got pretty rough I went down to check them. Ever seen a 'green' Border Terrier? The Mins were fine but poor Ben was staggering when we got off. Fortunately it was calm on the way back. Have a lovely time in Tassie and the dogs will be fine. -
I had an Afghan pup who did the same thing. He was fine outside but through those ropes and changed dramatically. I didn't do any show training with him for a while, then, as RallyVally suggested, went to a couple of shows and just played with him in an empty ring. The first couple of shows I entered I basically played with him without disturbing the other exhibits. Did our run around the ring, hopping, skipping and leaping with me encouraging him to have fun. Never tried to stack him, just let him stand and talked to him. It worked, he then took a bit of settling down again but worth it. Must admit though that I got a few strange looks from the Judges and didn't win a thing while that was going on

Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us
pebbles replied to freundhund's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was told this piece of wisdom some years ago - Lady whose Cocker bitch had a mis-allience with who knows what "Now she has to have three cocker litters before the pups are pure Cockers again", sigh -

What about an ordinary light 6 x 4 trailer for all your 'stuff'? I have small dogs so didn't want to go the dog trailer route but things were getting cramped with all the other gear. I used my ordinary trailer and it was so much easier just to toss the gazebo, chairs, crates, etc and cover with a tarp. The small trailers don't weight much either and can handle being left in the weather. ETA and I didn't have to unload the lot between shows

Rare Or Disqualifed Colours In Breeds.
pebbles replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hackney action isn't just 'mentioned' in the Breed Standard, it's there because it's part of the Breed! I think it's only recently been taken out of the FCI standard (someone will correct me if I'm wrong!). So perhaps ask yourself 'why' it was dropped? If you can get the book "Your Miniature Pinscher" by Buris R. Boshall M.D.(1969) it has a lot of interesting reading including 'Hackney Gait' which under the USA judging scheme is given high points and marked as "Very Important" and also covers Mins. in Sweden, England, Sth Africa, Australia and other countries. There are other breeds which originated from or were an off shoot from the original and have their own particular charactistics - and hackney action belongs to the Miniature Pinschers. -

Maybe because the majority haven't got hackney any more. What passes for action on a lot is just exaggerated throwing the legs straight forward (if that makes sense lol). Correct Hackney (or lack thereof) is a sore point with me having been involved with Mins for over 40 years. -

Hi, Angelsun, B/T Min. Pins. should have black 'penciling' on their toes. Haven't come across any with a thumb mark but there could be. No DQ's in the Mins, though perhaps there should be! 'True' Hackney action is their distinguishing feature, pity there's not more of it around -
It's all right for you guys - I live in the Mallee!

Last year my two had a ball chasing and eating them and would clean the front of the car too, but this year they aren't interested - too much of a good thing?

This would have been earlier than that - probably the 70s. Damn it's not nice remembering back that far and further -

Some great pics! I must be an old traditionalist :D or maybe just old, lol. Think I'll stick with the standard colours although the Panda Shep. was tempting. First time I've seen a pic of a smooth Affie, think I'll take the coated ones. Not many raries in the breeds I'm mainly associated with now - Min Pins, Border Terriers, Silkies. -

Alyosha - I think there was a lovely tri Borzoi shown in Victoria many years ago, from the Gippsland area. -
At the moment. up here, you would certainly run into a swarm of locusts!

Thanks everyone, reckon I'll take another trip to the same place on a nice evening and see what happens,

This specific to NSW laws. I was over the border from Victoria last evening and parked in the designated car park for the Club where there is a security man. Got there about 7pm. weather cool, parked under a tree, dogs in their crates, bedding and water containers. Car windows were down with those security fold out trellis things. Dogs were given a good walk when I got there. About 8pm there's a call over the PA for my car number. Go out and there's been complaints about the dogs left in the car. Security says I have to leave or he will call the RSPCA. Now I'm quite willing to take them on but want to know if there is any absolute law about leaving dogs in the car in NSW. If there's only the cruelty aspect then they haven't a leg to stand on! Actually the security guy did say I could tie them to the bumper and that would be fine - how bloody stupid Hell, I've had dogs for years, travelled Aussie with them and never had a problem with them, health wise. I even shop at midnight if the weather is too hot during the day.

Thanks Aussienot and Persephone. I will just keep digging - have a very specific reason for finding anything about this.

OK so I've been 'googling' and 'searching' for hours, found some strange places but not what I want Looking for the NSW legislation/law, whatever, pertaining to Dogs left in Vehicles. Help, please.
